A qualitative and quantitative budget at the outlet of the storm-water runoff system of a small suburban watershed is presented together with some data regarding waste-water. 445,000 m3 (34% of the rain-water volume) were drained by the storm-water runoff system and 40,879 m3 by the waste-water system from September 2002 to March 2004. Storm-water runoff is generally not heavily polluted with regard to trace metals but concentrations occasionally exceed the standards for surface water of good quality. On the contrary, pesticides (diuron and glyphosate) have very high concentrations especially in spring and autumn when their use is maximum. As the St Joseph storm-water runoff is finally discharged into the Erdre River, measures to reduce the use of these pollutants should be considered.  相似文献

The magnitude of backward masking is usually found to vary inversely with the amount of information about a target that is made available to the visual system. Contrary to these findings, we report a nonmonotonic relation between the magnitude of backward pattern masking and target duration. Specifically, masking decreased as target duration was increased to about 8 msec and, then, became more severe as target duration was further increased to a value of at least 40 msec. The occurrence of the nonmonotonic function depended on (a) the degree of definition of the target's edges, (b) the luminance levels within the target stimulus, and (c) the state of adaptation of the eye. It is hypothesized that the source of the nonmonotonic function was metacontrast interference that originated from within the target stimulus configuration. This hypothesis was supported by data that indicated that in the absence of any mask presentations, the apparent contrast between the target and its immediate background varied as a nonmonotonic function of target duration.  相似文献

CETIAT’s calibration laboratory, accredited by COFRAC, is a secondary thermometry laboratory. It uses overflow and stirred calibration baths \((\hbox {from} -\,80\,{^{\circ }}\hbox {C} \hbox { up } \hbox { to } +\,215\,{^{\circ }}\hbox {C})\), dry blocks and furnaces \((\hbox {from } +\,100\,{^{\circ }}\hbox {C} \hbox { up } \hbox { to } +\,1050\,{^{\circ }}\hbox {C})\) and thermostatic chambers \((\hbox {from } -\,30\,{^{\circ }}\hbox {C} \hbox { up } \hbox { to } +\,160\,{^{\circ }}\hbox {C})\). Typical calibration uncertainties that can be reached for platinum resistance thermometers in a thermostatic bath are between \(0.03\,{^{\circ }}\hbox {C}\) and \(0.06\,{^{\circ }}\hbox {C}\). In order to improve its calibration capabilities, CETIAT is working on the implementation of a gas-controlled heat pipe (GCHP) temperature generator, used for industrial sensor calibrations. This article presents the results obtained during the characterization of water GCHP for industrial applications. This is a new approach to the use of a heat pipe as a temperature generator for industrial sensor calibrations. The objective of this work is to improve measurement uncertainties and daily productivity. Indeed, as has been shown in many studies (Dunn and Reay in Heat Pipes, Pergamon Press, Oxford, 1976; Merlone et al. 2012), the temperature of the system is pressure dependent and the response time, in temperature, follows the pressure accordingly. Thanks to this generator, it is possible to perform faster calibrations with smaller uncertainties. In collaboration with INRiM, the GCHP developed at CETIAT works with water and covers a temperature range from \(+\,30\,{^{\circ }}\hbox {C}\) up to \(+\,150\,{^{\circ }}\hbox {C}\). This device includes some improvements such as a removable cover, which allows us to have different sets of thermometric wells adjustable according to the probe to be calibrated, and a pressure controller based on a temperature sensor. This article presents the metrological characterization in terms of homogeneity and stability in temperature. A rough investigation of the response time of the system is also presented in order to evaluate the time for reaching thermal equilibrium. The results obtained in this study concern stability and thermal homogeneity. The homogeneity on 200 mm is better than 5 mK and with a calibration uncertainty reduced by a factor of three.  相似文献

Impedance void meters are frequently used to measure the area-averaged void fraction in pipes. This is primarily for two reasons: firstly, this method is non-intrusive since the measurement can be made by electrodes flush mounted in the walls, and secondly, the signal processing equipment is simple.Impedance probes may be calibrated by using a pressure drop measurement or a quick closing valve system. In general, little attention is paid to void distribution effects. It can be proved that in annular flow, the departure from radial symmetry has a strong influence on the measured mean film thickness. This can be easily demonstrated by solving the Laplace equation for the electrical potential by simple analytical methods. When some spatial symmetry conditions are encountered, it is possible to calculate directly the conductance of the two-phase medium without a complete calculation of the potential. A solution of this problem by using the separation of variables technique is also presented. The main difficulty with this technique is the mixed nature of the boundary conditions: the boundary condition is both of Neumann and of Dirichlet type on the same coordinate curve. This formulation leads to a non-separable problem, which is solved by truncating an infinite algebraic set of linear equations.The results, although strictly valid in annular flow, may give the correct trends when applied to bubbly flow. Finally, the theory provides an error estimate and a design criterion to improve the probe reliability.  相似文献

The feasibility of using near-infrared (NIR) spectroscopy in combination with partial least-squares (PLS) regression was explored to measure electrolyte concentration in whole blood samples. Spectra were collected from diluted blood samples containing randomized, clinically relevant concentrations of Na+, K+, and Ca2+. Sodium was also studied in lysed blood. Reference measurements were made from the same samples using a standard clinical chemistry instrument. Partial least squares (PLS) was used to develop calibration models for each ion with acceptable results (Na+, R2 = 0.86, CVSEP = 9.5 mmol/L; K+, R2 = 0.54, CVSEP = 1.4 mmol/L; Ca2+, R2 = 0.56, CVSEP = 0.18 mmol/L). Slightly improved results were obtained using a narrower wavelength region (470-925 nm) where hemoglobin, but not water, absorbed indicating that ionic interaction with hemoglobin is as effective as water in causing measurable spectral variation. Good models were also achieved for sodium in lysed blood, illustrating that cell swelling, which is correlated with sodium concentration, is not required for calibration model development.  相似文献

Sex bias occurs at different stages in research on sex differences. Review articles often attribute greater value to tasks on which good performance is more frequent among males and undervalue those tasks at which females excel. There is bias in reporting primary sources. Public statements by psychologists concerning sex differences are misleading and irresponsible. Journals more readily publish reports of sex differences and turn down reports of no differences. The conventional linguistic format describing sex differences does not adequately reflect group overlap.
