Wear behavior of a harmonic structured 304L austenitic stainless steel with periodically distributed fine and coarse grains was examined and compared with a sintered non-harmonic structured 304L stainless steel and a low carbon conventional 304 stainless steel using fretting wear tests at varying loads in ball-on-flat contact configuration. Characterization was accomplished using scanning electron microscope, energy-dispersive spectroscopy, optical profilometry and Raman spectroscopy. Coefficient of friction and wear volume were minimum at intermediate normal load of 5 N, whereas maximum at 10 N for the harmonic stainless steel compared to other two steels. Harmonically distributed fine- and coarse-grained structure attributes to the higher wear rate of the harmonic structured steel at higher load because of differential interaction of the ball with the harmonically distributed hard (fine) and relatively soft (coarse) regions. 相似文献

PURPOSE: To determine whether hepatocyte growth factor (HGF) receptor (HGFR) is expressed in retinal pigment epithelial (RPE) cells and to test whether RPE cells are responsive to HGF. To evaluate expression of HGFR in human donor eyes and in several epiretinal membranes associated with proliferative vitreoretinopathy and idiopathic epiretinal membranes. METHODS: HGF-dependent migration and proliferation in primary and simian virus (SV) 40-transformed human RPE cells was studied using a Boyden chamber and [3H]thymidine uptake, respectively. The expression and tyrosine phosphorylation of HGFR protein was evaluated in RPE cells by immunoprecipitation and western blot analysis. Expression of HGFR in human donor eyes and in several epiretinal membranes associated with proliferative vitreoretinopathy (PVR) and idiopathic epiretinal membranes was analyzed by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: HGFR was expressed in RPE cells and was tyrosine-phosphorylated in response to HGF. Whereas HGF was a potent motogen for RPE cells, it induced only a modest, dose-dependent uptake of [3H]thymidine. Evaluation of human donor eyes showed that the RPE monolayer was the major cell type that was strongly positive for HGFR. HGFR was uniformly and readily detected in the cellular component of epiretinal membranes associated with PVR, whereas little or no HGFR was found in idiopathic epiretinal membranes. CONCLUSIONS: HGFR is expressed in cultured RPE cells, in the RPE monolayer in human donor eyes, and in epiretinal membranes obtained from patients with PVR. Furthermore, HGF is a potent chemoattractant for cultured human RPE cells. Radiation plays a dominant role in combustion space heat transfer. It is composed of three components, namely gaseous species radiation, soot radiation and crown surface radiation. The basis for model validation and the subsequent study of furnace operation is the spatial variation of radiant heat flux. Hayes and colleagues carried out measurements of crown incident radiant heat flux along the furnace axial centerline and developed a numerical model. However, the effect of soot was not quantified. In the present work, a numerical model is developed which considers the effect of soot radiation and is simulated using Fluent. Polymer-matrix composites using thermosetting resins as the matrix are increasingly finding use. However, a major impediment to their widespread commercial use is the high cost associated with their manufacture, arising from the long processing cycle times. This paper addresses the problem of determining cure temperature and pressure variations with time for a time-optimal manufacture of thermosetting-matrix composites subject to practical constraints. The optimal cure cycles are determined using the nonlinear programming scheme of sequential quadratic programming combined with a physical model base to simulate the process phenomena. The optimized cycles are shown to improve upon the manufacturer-recomended cycles as well as the improved cycles reported in the literature. The optimization results are reported for a wide range of resin materials, product specifications, and process constraints to illustrate their effects on the optimal cure cycles. Parametric studies are presented in terms of dimensionless groups to assess the combined effects of the product and process variables on the optimal cycles in a generalized manner. 相似文献

This paper presents a fractal-based compact new monopole antenna for wideband applications. The miniaturization has been achieved by incorporating Minkowski and Koch-snowflake fractals. The proposed antenna design is etched on top of Rogers RT/5880 dielectric material with a dimension of mm2. The antenna is designed, analyzed, fabricated, and tested in the laboratory. The proposed geometry operates over a 8.62–22.40 GHz with fractional bandwidth (FBW) of 88.84% and VSWR is less than 2. The proposed monopole antenna exhibits nearly omnidirectional radiation patterns over the entire resonating band with a gain of 1–2.91 dBi and a radiation efficiency of more than 60.5%. Also, the measured results of the prototype make an excellent agreement with the simulated counterpart. Further, the antenna gives good time-domain characteristics. Therefore, the proposed miniaturized antenna can be used in X/Ku/K-band applications. 相似文献
