This paper discusses a formal and rigorous approach to the analysis of operator interaction with machines. It addresses the acute problem of detecting design errors in human-machine interaction and focuses on verifying the correctness of the interaction in complex and automated control systems. The paper describes a systematic methodology for evaluating whether the interface provides the necessary information about the machine to enable the operator to perform a specified task successfully and unambiguously. It also addresses the adequacy of information provided to the user via training material (e.g., user manual) about the machine's behavior. The essentials of the methodology, which can be automated and applied to the verification of large systems, are illustrated by several examples and through a case study of pilot interaction with an autopilot aboard a modern commercial aircraft. The expected application of this methodology is an augmentation and enhancement, by formal verification, of human-automation interfaces.  相似文献

For a spanning tree $T$, let $P_{u,v}^T$ be the unique $u$--$v$ path in $T$. The {\sc quickest radius spanning tree problem} is to find a spanning tree $T$ of $G$ such that $\max _{v \in V} t(P^T_{root,v})$ is minimized. In this paper we present a 2-approximation algorithm for this problem, and show that unless $P =NP$, there is no approximation algorithm with a performance guarantee of $2 - \epsilon$ for any $\epsilon >0$. The {\sc quickest diameter spanning tree problem} is to find a spanning tree $T$ of $G$ such that $\max_{u,v \in V} t(P^T_{u,v})$ is minimized. We present a ${3 \over 2}$-approximation to this problem, and prove that unless $P=NP$ there is no approximation algorithm with a performance guarantee of ${3 \over 2}-\epsilon$ for any $\epsilon >0$.  相似文献

We study a model that incorporates a budget constraint in a decision making problem. Our goal is to maximize the expected wealth, where in each time period we can either stop the business getting our current wealth or to continue one additional time period and getting a random revenue. We show that when the wealth is scalar, the problem is NP-hard and we provide an FPTAS. However, when the wealth is vector with at least two components the problem cannot be approximated.  相似文献

Present research work was carried out to clarify the variations among species of genus Paspalum morphologically and palynologically as this genus is taxonomically difficult due to having multiple similar morphologically overlapping characters which make it difficult to identify. Henceforth present research work was carried out to delimit taxa within the same genus by morphological and palynological tools through light microscopy (LM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Both these tools are considered as the most useful taxonomic characters for taxonomically problematic genera. The results showed a lot of variations among morphological characters. In Paspalum dilatatum, the upper glume was ovate whereas in the other two species, the upper glume was elliptic. The upper glume apex found in P. dilatatum and Paspalum scrobiculatum was obtuse whereas in Paspalum distichum, upper glume apex was acute. Glume nerves showed variation in all three species. Paspalum distichum was 3 nerved, P. scrobiculatum was 5–7 nerved, and P. dilatatum was 5–9 nerved. All three species showed variation in lemma nerves. Paspalum scrobiculatum had 3 nerved lemma whereas in P. distichum 3–5 nerved and P. dilatatum 5–9 nerved lemma were present. In polar and equatorial view, pollen grains ranged from 25 (20–30) to 37.5 (30–45) μm. Paspalum distichum appeared to be the smallest in size whereas P. dilatatum was the largest. Exine thickness ranged from 0.75 (0.5–1) to 1.35 (1.2–1.5) μm. The higher value of pollen fertility was found in P. scrobiculatum as 87.69% and the lowest value was in P. distichum as 78.08%. Morphological keys were also given for correct identification.  相似文献

Dietary restriction is the only intervention shown to increase maximal life span, and to retard the rate of aging in rodents. As part of a long-term randomized trial of the effects of a 20-30% dietary restriction (DR) on adult rhesus macaques, female (N = 30) and male (N = 16) monkeys were assessed at baseline and 6, 12 and 18 months, following randomization to control (C) or dietary restricted (R) groups, for body composition by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry. At baseline, there were no significant differences between C and R groups in any body composition parameters measured. Males had significantly (p < 0.05) greater values at baseline than females for body weight (BW), body mass index (BMI), total body lean tissue mass (LTM), appendicular skeletal muscle mass (ASM), and total body bone mineral content (BMC). When analyzed longitudinally through 18 months of DR, C females had significantly increased BW, total body fat tissue mass (FTM), total body percent fat tissue mass (%FTM), LTM, ASM, BMC and abdominal fat tissue mass (AbFTM) relative to R animals. Male C animals had significantly increased BW, FTM, %FTM, BMC and AbFTM relative to R males. The primary effect of DR on body composition in these animals was on FTM.  相似文献

Mammalian spermatozoa are composed of specialized cytoskeletal elements, which appear to have no structural or protein counterparts in somatic cells. Most evident are the outer dense fibres (ODF) and fibrous sheath (FS) of the sperm tail and the perinuclear theca (PT) of the sperm head. The purpose of this study is to review our results on the occurrence and assembly of proteins making up these three elements during spermatogenesis. Our approach was to raise antibodies against the prominent proteins of these elements and to immunolocalize them on testicular sections prepared for histological and ultrastructural analyses. We found that all of the cytoskeletal proteins considered were expressed exclusively during the haploid phase of development and that the proteins of each element had similar if not identical patterns of expression. The PT proteins were synthesized in the first half of spermiogenesis and were associated with acrosome formation, while the ODF and FS proteins were synthesized in the second half of spermiogenesis. The ODF proteins assembled in a proximal-distal direction along the length of the axoneme, while the FS proteins assembled in the opposite direction; both assemblies eventually meeting and overlapping within the periaxonemal cytoplasmic compartment. During assembly the ODF proteins appeared to be temporarily stored in granulated bodies of the cytoplasmic lobe, while the FS proteins were randomly distributed throughout the cytoplasm. In the case of the PT, there appeared to be an interdependence between PT assembly and acrosome formation. The developmental protein distribution patterns observed for each of the elements suggest unique cellular targeting mechanisms adapted by the spermatid to regulate the assemblies of the respective cytoskeletal proteins.  相似文献

The effects of sperm-immobilization methods on decondensation of sperm chromatin and retention of subacrosomal sperm perinuclear theca (SAR-PT) after intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI) were examined in pigs. Sperm membrane damage caused by different immobilization methods by rubbing with a micropipette without piezo pulses (R), or with a low (L) or high (H) intensity of piezo pulses while rubbing, was assessed by the time required for staining of sperm heads with eosin Y solution. The average time for staining of sperm heads immobilized by the R, L or H treatments was 76, 41 or 26 s, respectively. The fertilization rate following ICSI was increased by sperm immobilization by piezo pulses compared with R, but increased intensity of pulses from L to H did not cause further improvements (29, 48 and 47%, respectively). An immunofluorescence study revealed that H immobilization promoted the dissociation of SAR-PT from sperm chromatin compared with L and R, and it increased the frequency of male pronuclear formation in which chromatin appeared uniformly decondensed. With in vitro fertilization (IVF), SAR-PT disassembled coordinately with sperm chromatin decondensation and it was not detectable around male pronuclei. This was different from most of the oocytes after ICSI in which remnants SAR-PT were detected adjacent to male pronuclei. We concluded that increased damage on the sperm plasma membrane at immobilization improved fertilization rates and decondensation of sperm chromatin after ICSI due to the accelerated dissociation of SAR-PT from the sperm nucleus. Also, the behavior of SAR-PT after ICSI was different from that observed in oocytes after IVF.  相似文献
