In this paper, a Delay Tolerant Network environment is considered where the source is in full control of the two-hop spreading mechanism by setting key parameters such as the number of copies allowed to be spread in the network and the delay bound of the messages. The introduced analysis allows for a differentiation between the source of the message and the intermediate nodes (in terms of e.g. transmission power, speed or cooperation degree). Analytical expressions for the cumulative distribution function (cdf) of the delivery delay and the induced overhead are extracted, taking into account the fact that the source node may continue spreading copies after the message delivery. In addition, a fairly accurate approximate expression for the cdf of the delivery delay is also derived and validated through simulations. 相似文献
We present an automated framework that partitions the code and data types for the needs of data management in an object-oriented source code. The goal is to identify the crucial data types from data management perspective and separate these from the rest of the code. In this way, the design complexity is reduced allowing the designer to easily focus on the important parts of the code to perform further refinements and optimizations. To achieve this, static and dynamic analysis is performed on the initial C++ specification code. Based on the analysis results, the data types of the application are characterized as crucial or non-crucial. Continuing, the initial code is rewritten automatically in such a way that the crucial data types and the code portions that manipulate them are separated from the rest of the code. Experiments on well-known multimedia and telecom applications demonstrate the correctness of the performed automated analysis and code rewriting as well as the applicability of the introduced framework in terms of execution time and memory requirements. Comparisons with Rational’s QuantifyTM suite show the failure of QuantifyTM to analyze correctly the initial code for the needs of data management. 相似文献
The classic two-stepped approach of the Apriori algorithm and its descendants, which consisted of finding all large itemsets and then using these itemsets to generate all association rules has worked well for certain categories of data. Nevertheless for many other data types this approach shows highly degraded performance and proves rather inefficient.
We argue that we need to search all the search space of candidate itemsets but rather let the database unveil its secrets as the customers use it. We propose a system that does not merely scan all possible combinations of the itemsets, but rather acts like a search engine specifically implemented for making recommendations to the customers using techniques borrowed from Information Retrieval. 相似文献
Riding a motorcycle under the influence of alcohol is a dangerous activity, especially considering the high vulnerability of motorcyclists. The present research investigates the factors that affect the declared frequency of drink-riding among motorcyclists in Europe and explores regional differences. Data were collected from the SARTRE-4 (Social Attitudes to Road Traffic Risk in Europe) survey, which was conducted in 19 countries. A total sample of 4483 motorcyclists was interviewed by using a face-to-face questionnaire. The data were analyzed by means of multilevel ordered logit models. The results revealed significant regional differences (between Northern, Eastern and Southern European countries) in drink-riding frequencies in Europe. In general, declared drinking and riding were positively associated with gender (males), increased exposure, underestimation of risk, friends’ behaviour, past accidents and alcohol ticket experience. On the other hand, it was negatively associated with underestimation of the amount of alcohol allowed before driving, and support for more severe penalties. 相似文献
In the recent years, cloud computing frameworks such as Amazon Web Services, Google AppEngine and Windows Azure have become increasingly popular among IT organizations and developers. Simultaneously, we have seen a phenomenal increase in the usage and deployment of smartphone platforms and applications worldwide. This paper discusses the current state of the art in the merger of these two popular technologies, that we refer to as Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC). We illustrate the applicability of MCC in various domains including mobile learning, commerce, health/wellness and social medias. We further identify research gaps covering critical aspects of how MCC can be realized and effectively utilized at scale. As people become increasingly acquainted with information technology, they demand continuous availability of services related to their work or leisure. The era of ubiquitous computing announced long ago is currently turning into an everyday reality at an ever-increasing pace. Alongside the evolution of ubiquitous and nomadic computing, the need of people to access vast amounts of information in a comprehensive and efficient way gives rise to the areas of information visualization and augmented-reality. Such technologies allow for the comprehensive presentation of visual information equally addressing the needs of different categories of people.
In the past 5 years, we have been active in a set of European Research Projects addressing the above-mentioned research directions, with the long-term goal to develop a software platform that will enable context-aware services deploying advanced visualization technology in a series of application domains, such as cultural heritage dissemination, interactive television and retail industry. The multitude of the application domains addressed, as well as the multidisciplinary expertise necessary to create a generic platform was successfully addressed in complementary research activities. In this paper, we present the idea of a platform for context-aware services by exploiting advanced visualization technology and subsequently we briefly review the research projects that delivered valuable pieces in the overall puzzle. A field study was conducted to determine the effects of a channel transition on turbulence characteristics. Detailed three-dimensional (3D) flow measurements were collected at a cross section that is located downstream of a gradual channel expansion. These measurements were obtained via an acoustic doppler velocimeter and include the 3D velocity field, the mean local velocities, the turbulent intensities, the frictional characteristics of the flow, the secondary velocity along the transverse plane, and the instantaneous shear stress components in the streamwise and transverse directions. Analysis of the 3D flow data indicates that the turbulent flow on the outer bank of the channel is anisotropic. Such anisotropy of turbulence, which is attributed to the gradual expansion in the channel and bed roughness, yields the development of a secondary flow of Prandtl’s second kind as reported in 1952. In particular, it was found that turbulent intensities in the vertical and transverse directions on the outer bank section are different in magnitude creating turbulence anisotropy in the cross-sectional plane and secondary flows of the second kind. Turbulent intensities increase toward the free surface indicating the transfer of a higher-momentum flux from the channel bed to the free surface, which contradicts common wisdom. Results for the normalized stress components in the streamwise and transverse direction show similar behavior to the intensities. Moreover, the nonlinear distribution of stresses is indicative of the oscillatory nature of the flow induced by the secondary flows of Prandtl’s second kind. A similar behavior was found for flows in straight rectangular channels over different roughness. Finally, a comparison between the secondary current velocity with the mainstream velocity indicates that secondary flow of Prandtl’s second kind is present within the right half of the measured cross section. 相似文献
Past research in environmental hydraulics has established the consideration that small- and large-scale turbulent eddy structures correspond to fast and slow fluctuations within a velocity time series measured at a fixed location. This work embraces this concept and develops an eddy taxonomy methodology to classify the prominent small- and large-scale eddies in the vicinity of an obstacle within a fixed rough bed. The previously documented visual interpretation technique is used in conjunction with a novel technique, which utilizes the statistical skew parameter, to quantify the moving-average time step at which large-scale eddies may be isolated from small-scale eddies. Thereafter, triple decomposition theory is employed and prominent spatial and temporal scales (i.e., integral length scales and periodicity) of small- and large-scale eddies are calculated. The eddy taxonomy methodology is implemented using acoustic Doppler velocimeter time-series measurements captured in the vicinity of an experimental model of a submerged barb obstacle—a hydraulic structure used for bank protection and increasing aquatic diversity. Implementation of the eddy taxonomy methodology using the streamwise velocity (u) time series and streamwise-vertical Reynolds stress (uw) time series provide similar results for the time step necessary to decompose large- from small-scale eddies. Eddy taxonomy results indicate the presence of large-scale, macroturbulent eddies throughout the barb test section with periodicity and length scales that agree with literature reported values. Additionally, small-scale bed derived eddies are most pronounced in the deflected flow regions where the barb obstacle has less influence upon the flow, while multiple small-scale eddies, including ejection, wake, and Kelvin–Helmotz associated eddies, persist in the downstream overtopping and wake regions of the barb obstacle. 相似文献
