Eighty beef crossbred steers with an average weight of 493 kg (4·66 kg SD) were allocated at random to one of five treatments to assess the effects of withholding feed and water on carcass shrinkage and meat quality. The five treatments were: slaughter from the feedlot (T1); and 12, 24, 36 and 48 h periods without feed and water prior to slaughter (T2-5).Weights were taken of the live animal and the carcass to monitor shrinkage along with relevant meat quality measurements. There were no treatment differences (P > 0·05) in initial farm weight, but plant weight shrinkage increased from 31gkg(-1) for T1 to 106 g kg(-1) for T5. Warm carcass weight decreased (P < 0·05) from 278·8 kg for T1, to 270·7 kg for T3 and 261·9 kg for T5. Liver, alimentary tract components, hide and head decreased as a proportion of farm weight as time without feed and water increased. Muscle pH at 6 days post mortem was increased (P < 0·05) in T3-5 compared to T1, with the result that muscle colour became darker, and steaks had less drip loss. Shear values increased (P < 0·05) from 6·3 kg in T1 to 7·7 kg in T4 and T5 indicating an increase in muscle toughness as time without feed and water increased. It was concluded that steers lose live weight rapidly within the first 24 h without feed and water, and that these relatively short periods of time (24 h) can have detrimental effects on carcass shrinkage and muscle quality. 相似文献

Coalition formation is a central problem in multiagent systems research, but most models assume common knowledge of agent
types. In practice, however, agents are often unsure of the types or capabilities of their potential partners, but gain information about these capabilities through repeated interaction. In this paper, we
propose a novel Bayesian, model-based reinforcement learning framework for this problem, assuming that coalitions are formed
(and tasks undertaken) repeatedly. Our model allows agents to refine their beliefs about the types of others as they interact
within a coalition. The model also allows agents to make explicit tradeoffs between exploration (forming “new” coalitions
to learn more about the types of new potential partners) and exploitation (relying on partners about which more is known),
using value of information to define optimal exploration policies. Our framework effectively integrates decision making during
repeated coalition formation under type uncertainty with Bayesian reinforcement learning techniques. Specifically, we present
several learning algorithms to approximate the optimal Bayesian solution to the repeated coalition formation and type-learning
problem, providing tractable means to ensure good sequential performance. We evaluate our algorithms in a variety of settings,
showing that one method in particular exhibits consistently good performance in practice. We also demonstrate the ability

Healthcare delivery is evolving from disease-centered to patient-centered care delivery where patients are active participants
in their healthcare delivery. This calls for more communication and collaboration among all healthcare actors. There is also
an increasing demand for personalized healthcare systems that provide effective information management, facilitate communication
and collaboration, and support applications to meet user requirements. To address these challenges, we need to advance the
integration and interoperability of healthcare applications in a controlled manner. Drawing upon a conceptual model from a
collaborative care case study, we identified a set of interoperability requirements and developed a Mashup based interoperability
framework. Our framework allows patients and other healthcare actors to engage in collaborative processes through online applications
facilitated by mashups. We then use proof-of-concept implementations to demonstrate how our framework is able to facilitate
different types of interoperability. We believe that collaborative technologies such as mashups can implement process interoperability
requirements to support collaborative care delivery, particularly for asynchronous care delivery. 相似文献

The reduction of dissolved oxygen has been studied over a wide conductivity range for use in steady or nonsteady hydrodynamic measurements. Mass transfer fluctuations can be analysed statistically to obtain the power spectra of hydrodynamic fluctuations. This requires a consideration of the proton reduction, which prevents diffusion from limiting the current. The transfer function for deducing the hydrodynamic spectra from mass transfer spectra includes not only transport effects but also kinetic effects which account for the finite rate of the reaction. The basic longitudinal texture, which is present everywhere on the fracture surfaces of glassy thermosets and is the finest texture observed on such surfaces, consists of low ridges and shallow grooves that are aligned parallel with the direction of crack propagation. The periodicity of the basic longitudinal texture, i.e., the average lateral separation between the ridges (or grooves), has been found to be characteristic of materials. This and other properties were measured for a series of rigid epoxy specimens made from diglycidyl ether of bisphenol-A and methylhexahydrophthalic anhydride. For the series of epoxies studied, the glass transition temperatures varied from 76 to 143 °C, the room temperature Young's modulus varied from 2.29 to 2.97 G Pa, the room temperature yield stress in compression varied from 99 to 128 M Pa, the room temperature Knoop hardness numbers varied from 133.5 to 163.5, the rubbery modulus at 200'C varied from 12.8 to 21.6 MPa, and the periodicity of the basic longitudinal texture varied from 205 to 368 nm. Only properties of the liquid state, namely glass transition temperature and the rubbery modulus, correlated well with periodicity of the basic longitudinal texture. This suggests that the basic longitudinal texture is the remnant left on the fracture surfaces of a liquid state that must have developed during fracture. This suggests in turn that liquefaction is an intrinsic part of the brittle fracture of polymer network glasses. 相似文献

Background: High-level occupational vinyl chloride (VC) exposures have been associated with hepatic hemangiosarcoma, which typically develops following a long latency period. Although VC is genotoxic, a more comprehensive mode of action has not been determined and diagnostic biomarkers have not been established. The purpose of this study is to address these knowledge gaps through plasma metabolomics. Methods: Plasma samples from polyvinyl chloride polymerization workers who developed hemangiosarcoma (cases, n = 15) and VC exposure-matched controls (n = 17) underwent metabolomic analysis. Random forest and bioinformatic analyses were performed. Results: Cases and controls had similar demographics and routine liver biochemistries. Mass spectroscopy identified 606 known metabolites. Random forest analysis had an 82% predictive accuracy for group classification. 60 metabolites were significantly increased and 44 were decreased vs. controls. Taurocholate, bradykinin and fibrin degradation product 2 were up-regulated by greater than 80-fold. The naturally occurring anti-angiogenic phenol, 4-hydroxybenzyl alcohol, was down-regulated 5-fold. Top affected ontologies involved: (i) metabolism of bile acids, taurine, cholesterol, fatty acids and amino acids; (ii) inflammation and oxidative stress; and (iii) nicotinic cholinergic signaling. Conclusions: The plasma metabolome was differentially regulated in polyvinyl chloride workers who developed hepatic hemangiosarcoma. Ontologies potentially involved in hemangiosarcoma pathogenesis and candidate biomarkers were identified. 相似文献

Pt supported on a carbon molecular sieve (Pt/CMS) was prepared by pyrolysis of polyfurfuryl alcohol containing pre-reduced Pt particles. The catalysts were characterized by hydrogen chemisorption, XRD, N2 adsorption/desorption and TEM. Hydrogen chemisorption showed that not all the Pt particles were exposed to H2 molecules. Oxidation treatment made Pt particles more accessible to H2. Catalyst activity was evaluated by hydrogenation of 1-hexene. Hydrogen spillover was demonstrated by diluting Pt/CMS with activated carbon or hydrogen type zeolite Y. The initial conversion of 1-hexene was increased from 86.5% to 98.5% and to 100% when Pt/CMS was diluted with activated carbon and hydrogen type zeolite, respectively. The high initial conversion was sustained for 6 h in the presence of diluents while the conversion decreased quickly for Pt/CMS alone. 相似文献
