In this work an all-optical hot-wire flowmeter based on a silver coated fiber combining a long period grating and a fiber Bragg grating (FBG) structure is proposed. Light from a pump laser at 1480 nm propagating down the fiber is coupled by the long period grating into the fiber cladding and is absorbed by the silver coating deposited on the fiber surface over the Bragg grating structure. This absorption acts like a hot wire raising the fiber temperature locally, which is effectively detected by the FBG resonance shift. The temperature increase depends on the flow speed of the surrounding air, which has the effect of cooling the fiber. It is demonstrated that the Bragg wavelength shift can be related to the flow speed. A flow speed resolution of 0.08 m/s is achieved using this new configuration. 相似文献

Conventionally, for modeling in-line lensless holograms of systems with high numerical apertures and diverging spherical illumination, the samples are considered as an ensemble of secondary point sources. On following Huygens's principle, the in-line hologram is the result of the amplitude superposition of the secondary spherical wavefronts with the wavefront originated in the point source. Albeit simple, this approach limits the shapes of the objects that can be modeled and the computation time rises with the complexity of the sample. In this work, we present a diffraction-based approach to model in-line lensless holograms. Samples with any shape or size can be modeled for in-line holographic systems with numerical apertures up to 0.57. The method is successfully applied to model objects of intricate submicrometer structures and/or multiple samples lying within a unique sample volume. 相似文献

Aiming for the investigation of insulating properties of aluminum oxide (Al2O3) layers, as well as the combination of this oxide with tin dioxide (SnO2) for application in transparent field effect transistors, Al thin films are deposited by resistive evaporation on top of
SnO2 thin films deposited by sol–gel dip-coating process. The oxidation of Al films to Al2O3 are carried out by thermal annealing at 500 °C in room conditions or oxygen atmosphere. X-ray diffraction data indicate that
tetragonal Al2O3 is indeed obtained. A simple device and electric circuit is proposed to measure the insulating properties of aluminum oxide
and the transport properties of SnO2 as well. Results indicate a fair insulation when four layers or Al2O3 are grown on the tin dioxide film, concomitant with thermal annealing between each layer. The current magnitude through the
insulating layer is only 0.2% of the current through the semiconductor film, even though the conductivity of the SnO2 alone is not very high (the average resistivity is 2 Ω cm), because no doping is used. The presented results are a good indication

Anaerobic digestion enables waste (water) treatment and energy production in the form of biogas. The successful implementation of this process has lead to an increasing interest worldwide. However, anaerobic digestion is a complex biological process, where hundreds of microbial populations are involved, and whose start-up and operation are delicate issues. In order to better understand the process dynamics and to optimize the operating conditions, the availability of dynamic models is of paramount importance. Such models have to be inferred from prior knowledge and experimental data collected from real plants. Modeling and parameter identification are vast subjects, offering a realm of approaches and methods, which can be difficult to fully understand by scientists and engineers dedicated to the plant operation and improvements. This review article discusses existing modeling frameworks and methodologies for parameter estimation and model validation in the field of anaerobic digestion processes. The aim of the present study was to investigate the environmental dispersal of Cryptosporidium spp. and Giardia duodenalis in two distinct areas (coastal and inland) in Galicia (NW Spain). Faecal samples were collected from healthy asymptomatic domestic (cows and sheep) and wild animals (deer and wild boars) in the selected areas. In each of the selected areas, samples of untreated water (influent) and of treated water (final effluent) were collected from each of the 12 drinking water treatments plants (DWTPs) and 12 wastewater treatment plants (WTPs) under study. Analysis of a single sample from each of the 635 (coastal) and 851 (inland) domestic and wild animals selected at random revealed that the prevalences of cryptosporidiosis and giardiosis in coastal area were 9.2% and 15.9% respectively, and in inland area, 13.7% and 26.7% respectively. In the coastal area, Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts were detected in influent and effluent samples from 2/12 (16.6%) DWTPs and 8/12 (66.6%) WTPs, while G. duodenalis cysts were detected in influent and effluent samples from 3/12 (25.0%) DWTPs and 12/12 (100%) WTPs. The concentrations were notably higher in WTPs; the mean parasite concentrations in the final treated effluent were 10 oocysts per litre and 137.8 cysts per litre for Cryptosporidium and Giardia, respectively. The mean concentration of G. duodenalis cysts per litre was significantly higher (P < 0.05) than the mean concentration of Cryptosporidium spp. oocysts per litre in both the influent and the effluent samples from all the treatment plants. In the coastal area, C. parvum, C. hominis and G. duodenalis assemblages A (I and II) and E were most repeatedly detected. Listeria monocytogenes detection in wastewater can be difficult because of the large amount of background microbiota and the presence of viable but non-culturable forms in this environment. The aim of this study was to evaluate a Fluorescent In Situ Hybridization (FISH) assay combined with Direct Viable Count (DVC) method for detecting viable L. monocytogenes in wastewater samples, as an alternative to conventional culture methods. 16S rRNA sequence data were used to design a specific oligonucleotide probe. In order to assess the suitability of the method, the assays were performed on naturally (n = 87) and artificially (n = 14) contaminated samples and results were compared to those obtained with the isolation of cells on selective media and with a PCR method. The detection limit of FISH and PCR assays was 104 cells/mL without enrichment and 10 cells/mL after enrichment. A total of 47 samples, including 3 samples from effluent sites, yielded FISH positive results for L. monocytogenes. Using DVC-FISH technique, the presence of viable L. monocytogenes cells was detected in 23 out of these 47 FISH positive wastewater samples. PCR and culture methods yielded 27 and 23 positive results, respectively. According to these results, FISH technique has the potential to be used as a sensitive method for the detection and enumeration of L. monocytogenes in environmental wastewater samples. 相似文献

Degradation of the sulfonamide sulfamethazine (SMZ) by the white-rot fungus Trametes versicolor was assessed. Elimination was achieved to nearly undetectable levels after 20 h in liquid medium when SMZ was added at 9 mg L− 1. Experiments with purified laccase and laccase-mediators resulted in almost complete removal. On the other hand, inhibition of SMZ degradation was observed when piperonilbutoxide, a cytochrome P450-inhibitor, was added to the fungal cultures. UPLC-QqTOF-MS analysis allowed the identification and confirmation of 4 different SMZ degradation intermediates produced by fungal cultures or purified laccase: desulfo-SMZ, N4-formyl-SMZ, N4-hydroxy-SMZ and desamino-SMZ; nonetheless SMZ mineralization was not demonstrated with the isotopically labeled sulfamethazine-phenyl-13C6 after 7 days. Inoculation of T. versicolor to sterilized sewage sludge in solid-phase systems showed complete elimination of SMZ and also of other sulfonamides (sulfapyridine, sulfathiazole) at real environmental concentrations, making this fungus an interesting candidate for further remediation research. 相似文献

Although arches, vaults and domes were essential structural elements in ancient engineering works, their structural analysis presents a challenge to modern designers. It was well known by the medieval builders that infill is essential for the stability of arched structures. Nevertheless, some disasters occur nowadays due to incorrect infill removal, usually done with the purpose of decreasing the applied load. In the present work a comprehensive analysis of the infill influence on the structural behaviour of arched structures is performed. For this purpose analytical models based on equilibrium considerations and finite elements models are used. Experimental results obtained from the Bargower bridge destructive test, are used to calibrate the numerical results. Nanoscale hybrid dielectrics composed of an ultra‐thin polymeric low‐κ bottom layer and an ultra‐thin high‐κ oxide top layer, with high dielectric strength and capacitances up to 0.25 μFcm?2, compatible with low‐voltage, low‐power, organic electronic circuits are demonstrated. An efficient and reliable fabrication process, with 100% yield achieved on lab‐scale arrays, is demonstrated by means of pulsed laser deposition (PLD) for the fast growth of the oxide layer. With this strategy, high capacitance top gate (TG), n‐type and p‐type organic field effect transistors (OFETs) with high mobility, low leakage currents, and low subthreshold slopes are realized and employed in complementary‐like inverters, exhibiting ideal switching for supply voltages as low as 2 V. Importantly, the hybrid double‐layer allows for a neat decoupling between the need for a high capacitance, guaranteed by the nanoscale thickness of the double layer, and for an optimized semiconductor–dielectric interface, a crucial point in enabling high mobility OFETs, thanks to the low‐κ polymeric dielectric layer in direct contact with the polymer semiconductor. It is shown that such decoupling can be achieved already with a polymer dielectric as thin as 10 nm when the top oxide is deposited by PLD. This paves the way for a very versatile implementation of the proposed approach for the scaling of the operating voltages of TG OFETs with very low level of dielectric leakage currents to the fabrication of low‐voltage organic electronics with drastically reduced power consumption. 相似文献
