Co-carbonization of hard coals and coal extracts 2. The co-carbonization of medium- and high-rank coals with extracts

Studies on the influence of anthracene coal extracts on the carbonization process of medium- and high-rank coals were undertaken. Extracts from flame coal (Int. Class. 900) and gas-coking coal (Int. Class. 632) were used as additives. The blends prepared from the examined coals and the extracts exhibited better coking properties than the parent coals. The addition of extract to the coals gave an increase in the microstrength of the resultant cokes. The effects of co-carbonization of coking coals with extracts were increases in the size of the optical texture as well as in the degree of structural ordering of cokes. In the co-carbonization of semicoking coal with addition of coal extracts, a reduction in the size of the anisotropic units and a decrease in the crystallite height of cokes were observed. No modification of the basic anisotropy of coke from anthracite by coal extract was observed. With increasing extract content in anthracite/extract blends there was an increase in the degree of structural ordering of co-carbonization products. Extract addition was unable to modify the behaviour of fusinite. Based on the results of investigation of the influence of coal extracts on the carbonization of different-rank coals, a division of coals according to the modification of the optical texture of coke is given.     

Kinetic Monte-Carlo simulation of network formation

Summary the simulation described in Part I was applied to random step polyaddition of a trifunctional monomer and the results were compared with exact solution for an infinite system. The gel point conversions, the weight-average degree of polymerization before (P _w) and beyond (P _w,sol) the gel point, the sol fraction and the cycle rank were used for comparison. The best way for detection of the gel point conversion is the extrapolation of the gel fraction, w _g, to w _g=0. The largest fluctuations are exhibited by P _w and P _w,sol. To get results closer to the exact ones, one can repeat several experiments with smaller number of units or increase the number of units, the former way being somewhat more economical. Typical orders of magnitude used were 10⁷ monomeric units.     

Specificity of rabbit antisera against lipopolysaccharide of Acinetobacter

Acinetobacter has been reported to be involved in hospital-acquired infections with increasing frequency. However, clinical laboratories still lack simple methods that allow the accurate identification of Acinetobacter strains at the species level. For this study, proteinase K-digested whole-cell lysates from 44 clinical and environmental isolates were investigated by sodium dodecyl sulfate-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis and immunoblotting with hyperimmune rabbit sera to examine the possibility of developing a serotyping scheme based on the O antigen of Acinetobacter lipopolysaccharide (LPS). The antisera, obtained by immunization of rabbits with 13 of the heat-killed isolates investigated, were characterized by Western blotting and enzyme immunoassay by using proteinase K-digested whole-cell lysates and phenol-water-extracted LPS as antigens. In both assays, the antisera were shown to be highly specific for the homologous antigen. In addition, assignment of Acinetobacter LPS to the smooth or the rough phenotype was shown not to be reliable when it was based only on the results obtained with silver-stained gels. O-antigen reactivity, determined by Western blot analysis, was observed with 11 of the 31 isolates, most of which belonged to the species Acinetobacter baumannii (DNA group 2) and the unnamed DNA group 3. Interestingly, some O antigens were found in a DNA group different from that of the strain used for immunization. The results indicate that O serotyping of Acinetobacter strains is feasible and thus may provide a simple method for the routine identification of these opportunistic pathogens.     

Application of substituted N-arylpyrroles in the corrosion protection of aluminium in hydrochloric acid

The inhibiting action of N-arylpyrroles on aluminium in 0.17 mol dm^–3 hydrochloric acid solution, in the temperature range 20–60 °C, was studied using potentiodynamic and electrochemical impedence spectroscopy techniques. The inhibiting efficiency of both investigated compounds 1-(2-fluorophenyl)-2,5-dimethylpyrrole (compound A) and 1-(2-fluorophenyl)-2,5-dimethylpyrrole-3-carbaldehyde (compound B) slightly increases with increasing temperature of the corrosive solution. Inhibitor adsorption on the elecrode surface decreases the apparent activation energy of the hydrogen evolution reaction. Compound A follows the Temkin adsorption isotherm, while its carbaldehyde derivative follows the Langmuir isotherm. The results of the apparent energy of activation and the standard free energy of adsorption point to stronger chemisorption of the compound A. However, due to additional condensation of molecules with carbaldehyde groups on the electrode surface, the carbaldehyde derivative exhibits even better inhibiting efficiency than compound A. The kinetic corrosion parameters, analysed in terms of the impedance data, show a satisfactory agreement with those obtained by the potentiodynamic method.     

On studying methods for cleaning dielectric oil for impregnation of high-voltage pulse capacitors with film dielectric

Methods for cleaning commercial T-1500 dielectric oil with different adsorbents are studied. The oil is intended for impregnation of high-voltage pulse capacitors with film dielectric.     

The significance of gastric helicobacteriosis in the genesis hemorrhage from duodenal peptic ulcer

Based on a comprehensive analysis of findings from examination and surgical treatment of 196 patients with bleeding pyloroduodenal ulcers, it was found out that patients with concurrent helicobacteriosis of the stomach are prone to more unfavourable course of their illness, which fact is evidenced by a greater loss of blood and higher risk for bleeding recurrences. A classification is proposed by the authors, taking advantage of the data from endoscopic, microscopic and immunoenzymatic techniques, with the purpose of providing an assessment of degree of severity of helicobacteriosis of the stomach.     

Reactive energy measurement using frequency controlled analog-to-pulse-rate converter

Contents This paper analyzes a problem of phase shifting and deseribes a novel method for electronic reactive energy measurement. The proposed measurement structure, composed of an integrator as a phase shifting circuit and a frequency controlled analog-to-pulse-rate converter, provides for the measurement completely in accordance with IEC definition of reactive energy, which is performed with simple but high performance metering device.

Die Blindverbrauchsmessung anhand eines netzsynchronisierten Analog-Frequenz-Wandlers

Übersicht In diesem Artikel wird das Problem der Phasenverschiebung analysiert und eine neue Meßmethode für elektronische Blindverbrauschsmessung aufgezeigt. Die vorgeschlagene Strucktur, bestehend aus einem Integrator als Phasenschieber und netzkontrolliertem Analog-Frequenz-Wandler, ermöglicht die Verwirklichung eines einfachen aber präzisen Elektrizitätszählers zur Messung der Blindenergie, dessen Arbeitsprinzip mit den IEC Empfehlungen vollkommen übereinstimmt.
