The aim of this work is to develop high‐performance adhesives to join carbon fiber reinforced composites (C/C) for use in aerospace applications; in order to guarantee sound mechanical strength, a low coefficient of thermal expansion, and ease of application on large components. Several different adhesive formulations, based on phenolic or cyanate‐ester resins (charged with the maximum experimentally feasible amount of carbon‐based fillers), are developed and tested. The measurements of the lap shear strength at room temperature of the C/C joined by means of one phenolic and one cyanate ester‐based resin demonstrates that these formulations are the most suitable for the given application. A complete characterization, by means of viscosimetry, dilatometry, and thermal gravimetric analysis, coupled with gas analysis by means of mass spectroscopy, confirms that the phenolic‐based formulation is the most promising joining material. A nano‐indenter is used to obtain its Young modulus and hardness, both inside the joint and as a bulk cured adhesive.  相似文献

This study presents a model for valve setting in water distribution networks (WDNs), with the aim of reducing the level of leakage. The approach is based on the harmony search (HS) optimization algorithm. The HS mimics a jazz improvisation process able to find the best solutions, in this case corresponding to valve settings in a WDN. The model also interfaces with the improved version of a popular hydraulic simulator, EPANET 2.0, to check the hydraulic constraints and to evaluate the performances of the solutions. Penalties are introduced in the objective function in case of violation of the hydraulic constraints. The model is applied to two case studies, and the obtained results in terms of pressure reductions are comparable with those of competitive metaheuristic algorithms (e.g. genetic algorithms). The results demonstrate the suitability of the HS algorithm for water network management and optimization.  相似文献

Some dietary supplements used to control overweight are based on protein concentrates from Phaseolus vulgaris, or kidney bean, known to contain high levels of α-amylase inhibitor, which may reduce the adsorption and prevent the digestion of carbohydrates. These concentrates of kidney bean also contain significant levels of antinutritional factors such as lectins and trypsin inhibitors. In recent years the concentrates of kidney bean have been processed to inactivate lectins and trypsin-inhibitor activity while preserving substantial α-amylase inhibitor activity. The aim of this study was to investigate and to compare the activity of the α-amylase inhibitor in some commercial supplements, and to determine the levels of residual lectins and trypsin inhibitors. The results show that the technological treatment used to reduce the levels of lectins and trypsin inhibitors partially decreases the activity of the amylase inhibitor. This study suggests the need for better standardization of the technological treatment of protein concentrates to ensure both the efficacy and safety of these dietary supplements.  相似文献

Interest in renewable and clean energies such as hydrogen has increased because of the high level of polluting emissions, increasing costs associated with petroleum and the escalating problems of global climate change. In the presence of a light source, a microbial photosynthetic process provides a system for the conversion of some organic compounds into biomass and hydrogen. Using Rhodopseudomonas palustris as a cell-factory, hydrogen photo-evolution was investigated in a photobioreactor (PBR) irradiated either from one or two opposite sides. Irradiating the photobioreactor from only one side, in the presence of malic acid, a reactor hydrogen production of 2.786 l(H2) PBR−1 was achieved. When the PBR was irradiated from two opposite sides, hydrogen photo-evolution increased to 3.162 l(H2) PBR−1. Experiments were carried out using inoculum from either the retardation or the exponential growth phases. Using the latter, the highest hydrogen photo-evolution rate based on the bacteriochlorophyll (Bchl) concentration was achieved (3295 μl(H2) mg (Bchl−1 h−1). The hydrogen to biomass ratio (rg) was 1.91 l g−1 in the medium containing malic acid and 1.07 l g−1 in that containing acetic acid. It was found that the hydrogen production rate was higher with malic than with acetic acid. Although photobiological hydrogen production cannot furnish alone the greater and greater world requirements of clean renewable energy, it is desirable that photobiological hydrogen technology will grow, in the near future, because photobioreactors for bio-hydrogen production can be positioned in fringe areas without competition with agricultural lands.  相似文献

Local search is an emerging paradigm for combinatorial search which has recently been shown to be very effective for a large number of combinatorial problems. It is based on the idea of navigating the search space by iteratively stepping from one solution to one of its neighbors, which are obtained by applying a simple local change to it. In this paper we present LOCAL++, an object‐oriented framework to be used as a general tool for the development and implementation of local search algorithms in C++. The framework comprises a hierarchy of abstract template classes, one for each local search technique taken into account (i.e. hill‐climbing, simulated annealing and tabu search). Each class specifies and implements the invariant part of the algorithm built according to the technique, and is supposed to be specialized by a concrete class once a given search problem is considered, so as to implement the problem‐dependent part of the algorithm. LOCAL++ comprises also a set of abstract classes for creating new techniques by combining different search techniques and different neighborhood relations. The architecture of LOCAL++ provides a principled modularization for the solution of combinatorial search problems, and helps the designer deriving a neat conceptual scheme of the application, thus facilitating the development and debugging phases. We investigate the feasibility of using cohesive theories of fracture, in conjunction with the direct simulation of fracture and fragmentation, in order to describe processes of tensile damage and compressive crushing in concrete specimens subjected to dynamic loading. We account explicitly for microcracking, the development of macroscopic cracks and inertia, and the effective dynamic behaviour of the material is predicted as an outcome of the calculations. The cohesive properties of the material are assumed to be rate‐independent and are therefore determined by static properties such as the static tensile strength. The ability of model to predict the dynamic behaviour of concrete may be traced to the fact that cohesive theories endow the material with an intrinsic time scale. The particular configuration contemplated in this study is the Brazilian cylinder test performed in a Hopkinson bar. Our simulations capture closely the experimentally observed rate sensitivity of the dynamic strength of concrete in the form of a nearly linear increase in dynamic strength with strain rate. More generally, our simulations give accurate transmitted loads over a range of strain rates, which attests to the fidelity of the model where rate effects are concerned. The model also predicts key features of the fracture pattern such as the primary lens‐shaped cracks parallel to the load plane, as well as the secondary profuse cracking near the supports. The primary cracks are predicted to be nucleated at the centre of the circular bases of the cylinder and to subsequently propagate towards the interior, in accordance with experimental observations. The primary and secondary cracks are responsible for two peaks in the load history, also in keeping with experiment. The results of the simulations also exhibit a size effect. These results validate the theory as it bears on mixed‐mode fracture and fragmentation processes in concrete over a range of strain rates. Copyright © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Ltd.  相似文献

Eighty-three samples of mineral water from four different wells in the same district were analysed for 23 parameters. Nineteen parameters were chosen for multivariate analysis. Principal components analysis provided a feature reduction to two or three dimensions without substantial loss of information. The data set is well separated into four clusters using hierarchical and non-hierarchical methods; samples from different wells are generally assigned to different clusters. © 1998 SCI.  相似文献

This paper is concerned with linear networks depending polynomially on parameters, when considering large values of the parameters, and their corresponding ideal networks—i.e. the networks in which all parameters are set equal to infinity. It has been taken into account that only the specification of nominal values and tolerances—and not of actual values—is physically meaningful. The stability of the ideal networks and the least hypotheses that allow us to use a previous algorithm to find monomial functions—in a single suitable variable—that describe arbitrarily large nominal values which ensure stability within a suitable constant tolerance are assumed. An integer h such that while these nominal values go to infinity then for any smooth causal excitations bounded together with their first h derivatives—in particular, for any smooth eventually periodic causal excitations—the zero‐state response of the actual networks converges uniformly on the whole time axis to that of the ideal networks is proved to exist. The proof may be used as an algorithm. An example which proves that the found class of excitations may be not the widest is given. The application of the results to the evaluation of the synchronization error due to high but finite values of the parameters in an ideally synchronizing linear network is shown. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) has been pointed out as a candidate for improving melanoma treatment. Nanotechnology application in PDT has increased its efficacy by reducing side effects. Herein, mesoporous silica nanoparticles (MSNs) conjugated with verteporfin (Ver-MSNs), in use with PDT, were administered in mice to evaluate their efficacy on lymphoangiogenesis and micrometastasis in melanoma. Melanoma was induced in mice by the subcutaneous injection of B16-F10 cells. The mice were transcutaneously treated with MSNs, Ver-MSNs, or glycerol and exposed to red light. The treatment was carried out four times until day 20. Lymphangiogenesis and micrometastasis were identified by the immunohistochemical method. Lymphoangiogenesis was halved by MSN treatment compared with the control animals, whereas the Ver-MSN treatment almost abolished it. A similar reduction was also observed in lung micrometastasis. PDT with topically administrated Ver-MSNs reduced melanoma lymphoangiogenesis and lung micrometastasis, as well as tumor mass and angiogenesis, and therefore their use could be an innovative and useful tool in melanoma clinical therapy.  相似文献
