Comparing perceived injustices from supervisors and romantic partners as predictors of aggression.

All versions of this article have been corrected.] To examine the predictive effects of perceived injustice in two different interpersonal relationships (i.e., working relationship with a supervisor, romantic relationship with a partner) on aggression enacted in those relationships, we computed a series of multilevel regressions on 62 heterosexual couples with all 124 partners employed part-time and working for different supervisors. Higher levels of perceived supervisor injustice predicted higher supervisor-directed aggression, whereas higher levels of perceived partner injustice predicted lower supervisor-directed aggression. An interaction between perceived partner injustice and anger predicted higher levels of partner-directed aggression. Implications and recommendations for future research on the relationship specificity of perceived injustice are discussed. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2010 APA, all rights reserved)     

Developing guidance on the safe use of air-fed suits in the nuclear industry

Air-fed suits are used for protection from radioactive particulate contamination. Managing air-fed suit operations safely and efficiently involves complex interactions between people, personal protective equipment and work systems. The nuclear industry and the Office for Nuclear Regulation identified the need for clear guidance on the non-radiological aspects of their use, especially the management of ergonomic and physiological issues, including thermal stress. We describe the key principles that need to be considered when managing the ergonomic and physiological risks from air-fed suits, and how we can tailor these to different applications. The information gathered in our research confirmed that the safety of operations employing air-fed suits will depend on a unified strategic approach to design and usage. Detailed implementation of this strategy can be adjusted according to specific tasks and hazards. We explain that the balance between engineering and behavioural safety issues for air-fed suits is different for operational and decommissioning activities.     

The influence of ripening and crop year on quality indices,polyphenols, terpenic acids,squalene, fatty acid profile,and sterols in virgin olive oil (Koroneiki cv.) produced by organic versus non‐organic cultivation method

The chemical composition of virgin olive oil is determined by numerous factors. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of the olive ripening stage, and crop year on the quality indices of Koroneiki cv. virgin olive oil of organic vs non‐organic cultivation. Drupes of organic and of non‐organic cultivation were sampled at four successive ripening periods in crop years 2000 and 2004. Quality indices, total and simple polyphenols, terpenic acids, squalene, fatty acid profile, and sterols were measured. Statistical analysis demonstrated that peroxide value differed according to cultivation method and according to crop year. Organic Koroneiki cv. olive oils exhibited higher total phenols content. Total phenols differed mainly according to crop year and maturation phase, but also according to cultivation method. Total unsaturated and saturated fatty acids differed according to cultivation method, crop year and maturation. Oleic and palmitoleic acids varied according to cultivation method and according to maturation process. Cholesterol, campesterol and stigmasterol differed according to maturity, while β‐sitosterol differed according to crop year. Overall, olive oil from organic cultivation was of superior quality compared to non‐organic, while composition of olive oils was greatly variable during maturation, whereas it was also affected by the crop year.
