Powder-metal-processed bearings and gears are finding increasing application because of their economical and technical advantages. The residual pores from the sintering operatives act as lubricant pockets and dampen sound and vibration. However, porosity also decreases the mechanical strength and reduces the life of components fabricated by powder processing relative to similar wrought components. The rolling contact fatigue behavior of sintered and heat treated steel rollers was investigated using a fatigue test machine designed and fabricated for that purpose. The powder-metal-processed and the wrought steel rollers that were tested had similar composition and hardness and were mated against wrought steel rollers of high hardness. The contact stress versus number of cycles to failure data showed that the wrought steel had a very high endurance limit under rolling contact fatigue compared to the sintered steels investigated. Rolling contact fatigue behavior was found to depend on the porosity present in the material. Large surface peeling failures and pitting type fatigue failures were observed in the sintered and hardened steels, while only pitting type failures were observed in the wrought steels  相似文献

The rising global demand for energy has triggered emphasis on conservation of energy. Buildings are one of the important energy consuming sectors. Passive solar architecture encompasses a wide range of strategies and options resulting in energy efficient building design and increased occupant's comfort. Passive solar design, aiming at increasing direct solar gains during winter period and to avoid overheating during summer period should make use of specific shading devices over energy efficient window. The static sunshades are most effective for solar control inside the buildings.Countries like India have composite climate, which can be classified under summer, winter and rainy season. Depending on the seasonal requirements, this paper introduces a new geometry of a static sunshade, designed by calculating the sun angles for the two dates. The static sun shading design methodology is validated with the help of small scale modeling experimentation technique, carried out in Pilani, Rajasthan (India). Although insulating materials can be used as a part of a building structure, its feasibility should be checked before particular application. In the present paper, the two small-scale experimental models of actual construction material with varying static sunshades, i.e. horizontal and the proposed one have been constructed and analyzed with the models of insulating material (Polyurethane Foam [PUF]). Depending upon the solar intersection over south facade wall, sunlit area and shaded area have been correlated with temperature inside the models to decide the effectiveness of the proposed sunshade.  相似文献

A suspension of mica particles (40m diameter and 3.7 thick) obtained in a mechanically stirred Al-4 wt % Cu-1.5 wt % Mg melt was poured and solidified in a variety of moulds under different heat flow configurations. The resulting cast structure showed a non-uniform distribution of dispersed mica particles with mica-depleted and segregated zones due to their flotation before and during solidification. The experimentally observed profiles of mica-free regions deviate significantly from those computed on the basis of Stokes's law and freezing-time computations. In relatively thick castings, segregation of mica could be minimized by using low pouring temperatures and/or side as well as bottom chilling. It was found, however, that thin castings (12.5 mm) could easily be produced with a homogeneous distribution of mica particles.  相似文献

Ring rolling process is widely used in the production of seamless rings for automotive and aerospace industry. This paper presents a summary of the ring rolling technology: machine and process types; process considerations; and examples of ring rolling lines. In this technology survey, recent trends in ring rolling machines and processes are emphasized. This survey will be specially valuable for industry personnel engaged with the selection and implementation of ring rolling lines and process planning engineers working with ring rolling companies. Viscosity data over a temperature range of 37-115°C and a pressure range of 0-10 MPa gauge are presented for a Cold Lake bitumen sample. These data show that the compression of Cold Lake bitumen results in a significant increase in its viscosity. Results are compared with those from a similar study on an Athabasca bitumen sample. Also presented are two correlations for the effects of pressure and temperature on the viscosity of Cold Lake bitumen.  相似文献

A predictive model was developed for the fully developed zone of a circulating fluidized bed (CFB) riser reactor operating in the fast fluidization regime that overcomes limitations of existing models. The model accounts for the upward flow of gas and solids in the core and downward flow of the two phases in the annulus. Additionally, a numerical solution methodology for the simulation of a riser reactor employing the hydrodynamic model was devised. A simulation was performed using the fast, main Claus reaction to demonstrate the effects of backmixing in the fast fluidization regime. It was found that the molar flow rates of the reactants leaving a fast fluidized CFB riser reactor were significantly higher than those leaving an identical reactor operating in the pneumatic transport regime.  相似文献

The Lovász ?-function (Lovász in IEEE Trans. Inf. Theory, 25:1–7, 1979) of a graph G=(V,E) can be defined as the maximum of the sum of the entries of a positive semidefinite matrix X, whose trace Tr(X) equals 1, and X ij =0 whenever {i,j}∈E. This function appears as a subroutine for many algorithms for graph problems such as maximum independent set and maximum clique. We apply Arora and Kale’s primal-dual method for SDP to design an algorithm to approximate the ?-function within an additive error of δ>0, which runs in time $O(\frac{\vartheta ^{2} n^{2}}{\delta^{2}} \log n \cdot M_{e})$ , where ?=?(G) and M e =O(n 3) is the time for a matrix exponentiation operation. It follows that for perfect graphs G, our primal-dual method computes ?(G) exactly in time O(? 2 n 5logn). Moreover, our techniques generalize to the weighted Lovász ?-function, and both the maximum independent set weight and the maximum clique weight for vertex weighted perfect graphs can be approximated within a factor of (1+?) in time O(? ?2 n 5logn).  相似文献

Hydration and strength behavior of supersulfated cement produced by activating a granulated Indian blastfurnace slag by plaster of Paris has been investigated. It is shown that plaster of Paris is a better activator than the conventional hard burnt gypsum (anhydrite) at least for a class of blastfurnace slags which are ordinarily considered less than ideal for this purpose. The setting characteristics of the plaster of Paris activated slag were controlled by small additions of a set retarder which does not adversely affect the strength properties of the cement. X-ray analysis and DTA have been used to identify the hydration products, interpret the strength data, and to compare the plaster of Paris activated cement with anhydrite activated slag cement.  相似文献
