An automatic ac bridge method employing the principle of balancing by means of a stochastic gradient search algorithm is presented. Among the various gradient search techniques, the Widrow-Hoff least mean square (LMS) technique has been chosen as it involves a low computational burden. The LMS algorithm has been used by the authors for the operation of an ac bridge operating with continuous variables. The relevant operation has been verified by simulation; it can also measure negative impedance. A relation has been established between parameters to be used in the LMS algorithm for discrete and continuous versions of the bridge. The balance convergence time for a relatively simple form of the LMS bridge, namely, the R-R type bridge, has been theoretically established and experimentally verified both by simulation and real-time implementation. The aim of this study was to investigate the production of biogenic amines (BA), histamine and tyramine by some probiotic lactic acid bacteria (LAB). Fifteen strains representing six LAB species were screened qualitatively by growing them in a decarboxylase medium. Quantitative analysis was carried out by HPLC analysis with direct derivatization of acid extracts. Lactobacillus casei (TISTR 389) and Lactobacillus delbrueckii subsp. bulgaricus (TISTR 895) were found to produce BA. The highest levels of histamine (1820.9 ± 3.5 mg L?1) and tyramine (5486.99 ± 47.6 mg L?1) formation were observed for the TISTR 389 strain, while TISTR 895 produced only histamine (459.1 ± 0.63 mg L?1) in the decarboxylase broth. Biogenic amine potential was not observed for the Lactobacillus acidophilus, Lactobacillus lactis subsp. lactis, Lactococcus lactis subsp. lactis, and Lactobacillus plantarum strains studied. This study confirmed that BA formation is strain dependent and not related to the species. Therefore, careful screening for amino acid decarboxylase activity is recommended before selecting LAB as appropriate starter or probiotic strains in food and dairy industry.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to investigate magneto-thermo-viscoelastic surface waves in electrically and thermally conducting layers involving time rates of strain and stress of ordern, the media being under an initial stress in the nature of hydrostatic tension or compression. The theory of magneto-thermo-visco-elastic surface waves in the conducting medium involving strain rate and stress rate ofnth order is derived under initial stress. This theory is then employed to obtain wave velocity equations in specific cases. Results obtained in the above cases reduce to well-known classical results when additional fields are absent.  相似文献

Using a multi-feedback network representation, multiplication noise in two-stage and three-stage heterostructure avalanche photodiodes has been calculated for different degrees of carrier feedback over heterobarriers. Results show appreciable dependence of noise on carrier feedback in III–V compound APD's, the effect being less with larger number of stages.  相似文献

Kluai Namwa is a local species of banana grown in Thailand. Flour made from this banana was mixed with chitosan, a by product of the shrimp industry, for casting films as it has valuable characteristics including antimicrobial effects. Utilization of excess banana available in high season and chitosan can from the waste crustacean shells could help reduce waste while making available a value added product. Banana/chitosan films were produced using 0.5–2 g banana flour and 0.5 g chitosan in 100 ml aqueous solution. Film water vapor permeability, tensile properties, solubility and morphology were investigated. The composite yellowish film exhibited great water permeability of 38.81–41.66 g mm/m2 day kPa. Tensile strength and elongation were in the range of 5.19–14.22 MPa and 1.64–2.59%, respectively while the solubility obtained was 40.90–64.21%. The presence of starch in the composite film makes possible water soluble and sealable bags or wraps, while the presence of chitosan gives them the antimicrobial property. The composite bags were found to protect asparagus, baby corn and Chinese cabbage against Staphylococcus aureus activity by serving as a good barrier and as a antimicrobial agent. With these properties the edible bag with its contents can be processed together during food preparation making its use very convenient.  相似文献

Critical micelle concentration (CMC) is a fundamental physical parameter of surfactant aggregation in solution. The CMC is determined by different methods, tensiometry, conductometry, microcalorimetry, fluorimetry, and so on. However, it is known that though CMC is reported as a single value, in reality, micelle formation occurs over a narrow range of concentration for different experimental procedures produce different results. We shall discuss about a unique procedure of measuring correct CMC applicable to all potential methods used in practice. This is essential for the evaluation of thermodynamic properties of the micelle forming process in pure and mixed states in terms of solution theories. As we in this short documentary want to deal with various aspects of Milton Rosen's research—wherein we have also worked—a few other facets of surfactant chemistry research, besides the micelle formation, are also briefly discussed. In mixed surfactant systems, synergistic effects in various surfactant properties like detergency, foaming, solubilization, and so on are found whereas in some others non-synergistic effects are observed. Dehydration of micelles with an increase in temperature or by the addition of hydrophilic substances may cause clouding to the system. Soluble amphiphilic systems produce Gibbs monolayer at the air/water interface; insoluble amphiphiles form Langmuir monolayers. A documentary of the above aspects will be herein presented and discussed. We mention that this article is neither an original research article nor a review article. This is a mixture of the two: a documentary of both original research and some review of our works presented in memory of Prof. Milton Rosen.  相似文献

Homopolymers and copolymers of styrene and different acrylic esters (i.e., acrylates) were synthesized by the free‐radical solution polymerization technique. Feed ratios of the monomers styrene and cyclohexyl acrylate/benzyl acrylate were 90 : 10, 75 : 25, 60 : 40, 50 : 50, 40 : 60 and 20 : 80 (v/v) in the synthesis of copolymers. All 6 homopolymerizations of acrylic ester synthesis were carried out in N,N(dimethyl formamide) except for the synthesis of poly(cyclohexyl acrylate) (PCA), where the medium was 1,4‐dioxane. Benzoyl peroxide (BPO) and azobisisobutyronitrile (AIBN) were used as initiators. The polymers synthesized were characterized by FTIR, 1H‐NMR, 13C‐NMR spectroscopy, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), and viscosity measurements. The reactivity ratios were determined by the Fineman–Ross method using 1H‐NMR spectroscopic data. The reactivity ratios (r) for the copolymerization of styrene (rS) with cyclohexyl acrylate (rCA) were found to be rS = 0.930 and rCA = 0.771, while for the copolymerization of styrene with benzyl acrylate, the ratios were found to be rS = 0.755 and rBA = 0.104, respectively. The activation energies of decomposition (Ea) and glass‐transition temperature (Tg) for various homo‐ and copolymers were evaluated using TGA and DSC analysis. The activation parameters of the viscous flow, voluminosity (VE) and shape factor (ν) were also computed for all systems using viscosity data. © 2000 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. Homopolymers of N-vinylpyrrolidone (VP) and vinyl acetate (VAc) were synthesized by a free-radical solution polymerization technique. Copolymers of VP and VAc in various monomer feed ratios were also synthesized by the same procedure. They were characterized by elemental analysis, FTIR, PNMR, TGA, swelling, and viscosity measurements. The reactivity ratios of the monomers were computed by both Fineman–Ross and Kelen–Tudos methods using data from both PNMR and elemental analysis studies. The activation energy values for various stages of decomposition were calculated from TGA analysis using Broido's method. The viscosity measurements were carried out at four different temperatures: 30, 35, 40, and 45°C.
