Recrystallization behavior of zinc selenide during chromium diffusion doping

We have studied the effect of high-temperature diffusion doping with chromium (Cr²⁺) ions on the microstructure of polycrystalline zinc selenide (ZnSe). We have determined energy and kinetic characteristics of solid-state recrystallization in ZnSe and assessed the effect of chromium concentration on the rate of grain growth during the doping process.     

Crystal-assisted beam extraction and collimation at the U-70 circular accelerator

New crystal devices—an array of bent strips and a fan-type reflector based on thin straight plates—have been used to study extraction and collimation of the beam circulating in the accelerator at energies of 50 and 1.3 GeV. It is shown that these devices allow high-efficiency beam steering in a wide energy range. For 50-GeV protons, the efficiency of beam extraction and collimation is ～90%, which is the highest efficiency attained for this method to date. It has been observed that the use of different crystals causes the particle loss at the accelerator downstream of the absorber to decrease by a factor of 2–3 in comparison with the standard single-stage scheme of beam collimation by a steel absorber.

We have investigated the interaction of regular and irregular structures — systems of shock waves, rarefaction waves, and turbulent layers — in a chemical oxygen-iodine laser.     

Liquid treatment of radionuclide-contaminated items of complex geometry in apparatuses with pulsed oscillating flow of reagents

A pulsed decontamination apparatus was developed and tested. Its operation is based on the action of oscillating liquid flow on contaminated objects. It ensures efficient decontamination of items and parts of complex geometry with deep contaminations and with contaminations blocked by corrosion products.     

Accelerator mass spectrometry II: Background reduction with a Wien (velocity) filter; 10Be contents of Central American basalts

Our limit of detection for ¹⁰Be by accelerator mass spectrometry has been lowered to a few million atoms by the installation of a Wien filter which screens out co-transmitted ⁹Be. Analyses of six Central American basalts gave ¹⁰Be contents ranging from 1 × 10⁶ to 60 × 10⁶ atom/g. The sample richest in ¹⁰Be has been contaminated by sediments. The other samples have ¹⁰Be contents in the range reported in the literature by Brown and co-workers.
