It is demonstrated that accurate distance measurement may be effected using a commercially available distributed feedback (DFB) semiconductor laser subject to frequency-shifted optical feedback. A simple experimental arrangement is employed wherein a chirped frequency comb is generated in an external cavity DFB laser using an intracavity acoustic-optic modulator. The frequency comb generates a beat frequency which is proportional to the path difference of a target and reference arm. An estimate of the accuracy and resolution of the measurement is given.  相似文献

When planning an SDH network, explicit structure, such as rings or a network hierarchy, is often imposed to allow for easier network protection and management. Decisions on node connectivity are also heavily dependent on available transmission capacity and network geography, as well as the demands placed on the SDH transport layer. The strictly imposed structure therefore makes it unlikely for unplanned properties to appear but here we describe how the BT SDH network exhibits emergent power-law properties in a range of metrics. These properties are similar to those previously found in the Internet, but the Internet in contrast is not globally planned, has adaptive elements such as dynamic routing and peering agreements, lacks explicit imposed structure, and is less coupled to transmission topologies.This paper shows that even with a wide range of restrictions and controls the BT SDH network topology follows power-laws and we offer possible sources for them, concentrating on the possible effect of adjacent network layers. The existence of these properties has wide implications in network modelling, as well as network scaling, growth, and robustness analysis.  相似文献

The Advanced Microwave Scanning Radiometer for the Earth Observing System (AMSR-E) was developed and provided to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration's EOS Aqua satellite by the National Space Development Agency of Japan, as one of the indispensable instruments for Aqua's mission. AMSR-E is a modified version of AMSR that was launched December 2002 aboard the Advanced Earth Observing Satellite-II (ADEOS-II). It is a six-frequency dual-polarized total-power passive microwave radiometer that observes water-related geophysical parameters supporting global change science and monitoring efforts. The hardware improvements over existing spaceborne microwave radiometers for Earth imaging include the largest main reflector of its kind and addition of 6.925-GHz channels. These improvements provide finer spatial resolution and the capability to retrieve sea surface temperature and soil moisture information on a global basis. This paper provides an overview of the instrument characteristics, mission objectives, and data products.  相似文献

The growing use of multimedia communication applications, with specific bandwidth and real-time delivery requirements has created the need for an integrated services Internet in which traditional best-effort datagram delivery can coexist with additional enhanced quality of service (QoS) delivery classes. Such classes provide data flows with QoS commitments with regard to bandwidth, packet loss, and delay through the reservation of network resources along the data path, which can be done using the Resource Reservation Protocol (RSVP). Diketopyrrolopyrroles (DPPs) have recently gained attention as building-blocks for organic semiconducting polymers and small molecules, however the semiconducting properties of their hydrogen-bonded (H-bonded) pigment forms have not been explored. Herein we report on the performance of three archetypical H-bonded DPP pigments, which show ambipolar carrier mobilities in the range 0.01–0.06 cm2/V s in organic field-effect transistors. Their semiconducting properties are correlated with crystal structure, where an H-bonded crystal lattice supports close and relatively cofacial π–π stacking. To better understand transport in these systems, density functional theory calculations were carried out, indicating theoretical maximum ambipolar mobility values of ∼0.3 cm2/V s. Based on these experimental and theoretical results, H-bonded DPPs represent a viable alternative to more established DPP-containing polymers and small molecules where H-bonding is blocked by N-alkylation.  相似文献

Many hot springs in Geyser Valley declined and ceased flowing during well testing (1950–1958) or the early stages of development (1958–1964) of the Wairakei field, North Island, New Zealand. A simple model that considers mixing, geothermal reservoir pressure, and Darcy flow is applied to analyse the changes in flow rate and chemistry of spring SP18. The model suggests that prior to the testing the observed flow rate of 3 l/s was comprised of about 2.1 l/s of water from the deep reservoir and about 0.9 l/s from shallow groundwater. As the pressure in the reservoir decreased as a result of exploitation, the reservoir component declined but the groundwater component remained near constant until the spring had nearly ceased flowing. The model reasonably predicts the flow cessation date for four other springs (Group A) but poorly predicts that for seven other springs (Group B). These two groups of springs do not appear to be clustered at the ground surface. The pressure–elevation relationship suggests that the Group A springs feed from within the shallower Waiora Formation and Group B springs from within the deeper Wairakei Ignimbrite Formation. The observation that declines of chloride concentrations in Group A springs occurred at least three years before those in springs of Group B is consistent with the finding that Group A springs have a shallower feeder depth.  相似文献

A review is given of contemporary research on the hydrogen-fueled internal combustion engine. The emphasis is on light- to medium-duty engine research. We first describe hydrogen-engine fundamentals by examining the engine-specific properties of hydrogen and surveying the existing literature. Here it will be shown that, due to low volumetric efficiencies and frequent preignition combustion events, the power densities of premixed or port-fuel-injected hydrogen engines are diminished relative to gasoline-fueled engines. Significant progress has been made in the development of advanced hydrogen engines with improved power densities. We discuss several examples and their salient features. Finally, we consider the overall progress made and provide suggestions for future work.  相似文献
