The sensitivity of a monitoring scheme depends on many factors including the variance of the charting statistic which is very important in the computation of the control limits. This paper discusses the computation of the variance of the recently proposed hybrid homogeneously weighted moving average (HHWMA) scheme which was based on an incorrect assumption. The correct variance is used to evaluate the run-length characteristics of the HHWMA scheme. It is observed that the incorrect variance has a significant impact on the sensitivity (or performance) of the HHWMA scheme. 相似文献

Value chain analysis of bio-coal business in Finland: Perspectives from multiple value chain members
The purpose of this study is to provide a comprehensive outline of the Value Chain (VC)1 of bio-coal in Finland, define the proper business models of bio-coal business, and investigate the interrelationships between VC activities. The major findings are: 1) the study found significant interrelationships between support and primary activities in the bio-coal VC which suggest that we should not emphasis only the core value/primary activities of the bio-coal business, but pay more attentions to the “side values”/support activities; 2) The study identified political and environmental factors as the effective drivers, while technology and cost-profit uncertainty as major restrictions for the Finnish bio-coal business. The authors would like to suggest that instead of purely “environmental concerns”, the term “sustainability credentials” should be emphasized, which means value creating and adding items should not limit to monetary values, but consider social and environmental value propositions. 3) The study identified “low competition” in the current bio-coal business in Finland, which implies opportunities of market entrance for Finnish and international companies; 4) The study identified that the current Finnish bio-coal model is the decentralized model at the local level. Context and objective: The aim of this study was to develop, characterize and evaluate a mucoadhesive caplet resulting from a polymeric blend (polymeric caplet) for intravaginal anti-HIV-1 delivery.Materials and methods: Poly(lactic-co-glycolic) acid, ethylcellulose, poly(vinylalcohol), polyacrylic acid and modified polyamide 6, 10 polymers were blended and compressed to a caplet-shaped device, with and without two model drugs 3′-azido-3′-deoxythymidine (AZT) and polystyrene sulfonate (PSS). Thermal analysis, infrared spectroscopy and microscopic analysis were carried out on the caplets employing temperature-modulated DSC (TMDSC), Fourier transform infra-red (FTIR) spectrometer and scanning electron microscope, respectively. In vitro and in vivo drug release analyses as well as the histopathological toxicity studies were carried out on the drug-loaded caplets. Furthermore, molecular mechanics (MM) simulations were carried out on the drug-loaded caplets to corroborate the experimental findings.Results and discussion: There was a big deviation between the Tg of the polymeric caplet from the Tg's of the constituent polymers indicating a strong interaction between constituent polymers. FTIR spectroscopy confirmed the presence of specific ionic and non-ionic interactions within the caplet. A controlled near zero-order drug release was obtained for AZT (20 d) and PSS (28 d). In vivo results, i.e. the drug concentration in plasma ranged between 0.012–0.332?mg/mL and 0.009–0.256?mg/mL for AZT and PSS over 1–28 d.Conclusion: The obtained results, which were corroborated by MM simulations, attested that the developed system has the potential for effective delivery of anti-HIV-agents. 相似文献

The concept of food safety has lately acquired a new approach due to globalization and free trade in food. Introducing a HACCP system in the production and trade in food has become a necessity. The term “food trade” indicates all the postproduction procedures, from storage, transport and distribution to retail, including export and import. The aim of our 2002 survey was to analyse the situation of cold chain maintaining in food trade in Ljubljana, the capital of Slovenia. The research was based upon two hypotheses: in the first one we supposed that a cold chain is interrupted in retail and in the second one we supposed that the handling of food in retail varies. Seventeen stores were divided in three groups, according to sales area of the store: large ones, medium ones and small ones. Temperature conditions in cooling appliances for storage of 1688 perishable food products were measured. Products were inspected by two criteria, by the “best before” date and by the storage temperature. The results confirmed both of the hypotheses. The storage conditions were properly labelled on the packages of the products inspected. In most of the cases the temperatures measured differed from the required ones, even for up to 10 °C. The biggest differences were detected between temperatures indicated on cooling appliances and temperatures measured by our calibrated thermometers. Conditions during food storage and in retail stores were not documented and there was no system to control the cold chain. Our findings have shown that retailers are not familiar with the importance of maintaining a cold chain. The result of that can be a shorter durability of highly perishable foodstuffs and their safety for consumers is questionable. 相似文献

The MnO activities in (MnO-CrO
x
-CaO-SiO2)-containing melts, which were saturated with the (Mn, Cr)3O4 spinel phase, were determined at 1500 °C under an oxygen partial pressure of 10−8.99 atm. This was done by equilibrating the samples with platinum. The activity of MnO in the melt was then calculated from the
activity coefficient of manganese in the resultant Pt-Cr-Mn alloy. Darken’s quadratic formalism for ternary metallic solutions
was used to calculate the activity coefficient of manganese in the Pt-Cr-Mn system, in which platinum was considered to be
the solvent. It was found that an increase in the concentration of MnO in the melt increases both the MnO activity and the
activity coefficient of MnO. For a constant MnO concentration in the (MnO-CrO
x
-CaO-SiO2)-containing melts, the activity of MnO can be increased by increasing the basicity of the melt. In order to obtain high-manganese
recoveries from (MnO-CrO
x

A probabilistic approach to fracture mechanics in the form of a typical case study is described wherein the integrity of a high-pressure water pipeline is assessed. An analysis methodology is discussed incorporating the probability density functions of defect sizes, the statistics of defect occurrences and the statistical distribution of material properties. This method enables the analyst to supply a very simple assessment of safety, based on the probability of failure (a single number) which may be compared to accepted industrial standards (e.g. 10−6 for nuclear applications). It is argued that this method often offers the only way to scientifically and economically assess the integrity of fracture prone structures. 相似文献

Collaborative work is an important part of tertiary education but it is very difficult to arrange and supervise for extremely large classes of students in their first year. The possibility that computer-mediated communication can be used to facilitate this type of learning is appealing from a pragmatic organisational point of view. This paper explains in detail what a ‘virtual team’ is in the educational context. It reports on an interpretive field study where students taking an introductory course were allowed to choose where and when they did the required collaborative work. The paper discusses the factors that should be taken into account when offering students the option of working as a virtual team. These include factors that influence the students’ choice. The project cannot be considered to have been successful but indicates reasons for the lack of success and suggests contexts in which it would be valuable to repeat the project. The importance of extensive preparation in terms of teaching the students necessary social and technological skills cannot be over emphasised. 相似文献

This article reports the findings of a scientometric analysis of nanoscale research in South Africa during the period 2000–2005.
The ISI databases were identified as the most appropriate information platform for the objectives of the investigation and
have been interrogated for the identification of South African authors publishing in the field.
The article identifies trends over time, major institutional contributors, journals in which South African authors publish
their research, international collaborators and performance in comparison to four comparator countries (India, Brazil, South
Korea and Australia). The major findings of the investigation are as follows: nanoscale research in South Africa is driven
by individual researchers interests up to date and it is in its early stages of development; the country’s nanoscale research
is below what would one expect in light of its overall publication output; the country’s nano-research is distributed to a
