Modeling of realistic garments is essential for creating believable virtual environments. Sketch-based modeling of garments presents an appealing, easy to use alternative to the established modeling approaches which are time consuming and require significant tailoring expertise. Unfortunately, the results created using existing sketch-based methods lack realism. Driven by human perception of garment sketches, we propose a context-aware garment sketch interpretation based on a set of observations about key factors that affect the shape of garments. Based on this analysis we develop a geometric method for sketch-based modeling of garments which obtains more realistic results than previous techniques. We demonstrate the effectiveness of our method on a variety of inputs and validate our approach via a user study where viewers were asked to compare the believability of our outputs versus previous ones.  相似文献

Surface development is used in many manufacturing planning operations, e.g., for garments, ships and automobiles. However, most freeform surfaces used in design are not developable, and therefore the developed patterns are not isometric to the original design surface. In some domains, the CAD model is created by interpolating two given space curves. In this paper, we propose a method to obtain a G2 quasi-developable Bezier surface interpolating two arbitrary space curves. The given curves are first split into a number of piecewise Bezier curves and elemental Bezier patches each of which passes through four splitting points are constructed. All neighboring elemental patches are G2 connected and they are assembled optimally in terms of the degree of developability (the integral Gaussian curvature). Experiments show that the final composite Bezier surface is superior to a lofted one which is defined regardless of the final surface developability.  相似文献

Skinning, also called lofting, is a powerful and popular method for modeling complex shapes. A surface modeled by the current skinning techniques nevertheless may be far from being developable, which is an important property desired in the manufacturing industry such as ship-hull, wing and body of aircraft, garment, etc. In this paper, a novel approach to skinning surface modeling is proposed. The proposed method interpolates the given curves with a collection of G1 continuous self-defined triangular patches, and these patches are assembled together by globally minimizing the integral Gaussian curvature, i.e., the degree of developability. The proposed algorithm has been tested on a set of examples and the test results have demonstrated its promising use in a variety of applications.  相似文献

Clothing simulation and animation are of great importance in computer animation. If cloth simulations could be improved to the point that they could generate realistic cloth motion in real-time, they would find uses in many aspects of daily life such as in fashion design and manufacturing. The area of cloth simulation and animation is full of technical challenges: creating more realistic results, achieving faster run-times, and developing methods capable of constructing and simulating more complex garments. This paper provides an overview of the key procedures involved in the creation of clothed characters, describes the current state-of-the-art techniques, and proposes the research problems that most require further study. Three technical aspects of cloth simulation are considered in this paper: garment construction, physically based simulation, and collision resolution.  相似文献

A method for the design of garments at a workstation is proposed. An underlying body form analogous to a trade mannequin is first represented in the computer. Garment panels are considered to be surfaces of complex shape, whose fit with respect to body form may vary over the surface. A method of easy entry of data for representing panels is proposed, whereby fit around panel edges can be defined. The problems of controlling fit in the interior of panels is considered and a scheme is proposed which accomplishes design with economy of effort from the designer.  相似文献
