Sintering of Pt/Al2O3 reforming catalysts: EXAFS study of the behavior of metal particles under oxidizing atmosphere

The effect of an oxidative atmosphere (300 °C) is studied on fresh and sintered unchlorinated naphtha reforming catalysts containing 0.6–1% Pt. The TPR profiles show that only one species is formed using our experimental conditions, regardless of the mean crystallite size of the metal particles. The structural information supplied by EXAFS compared with cuboctahedral particle modeling, implies that such species is a surface platinum oxide, the structure of which is close to that of PtO₂, but largely distorted. This is true whether the catalyst is sintered or not.     

Fatty acid variation among U.S. Runner-type peanut cultivars

Fatty acid composition was determined among seven U.S. runner-type peanut (Arachis hypogaea L.) cultivars: Florunner, Sunrunner, GK-7, Southern Runner, Sunbelt Runner, Okrun, and Langley. Significant year and cultivar differences were found within these fatty acid profiles. Southern Runner had the best oleic to linoleic ratio and iodine values; whereas Florunner, Sunrunner, and Langley were the highest in unsaturated and lowest in saturated and long-chain fatty acids. For the future, breeding programs need to continue developing peanut cultivars with improved oil quality.     

Characterisation of mortar morphology in thin sections by digital image processing

A digital imaging approach was applied to investigate mortar morphology in thin sections; in particular, the binder/aggregate ratio and the grading curve of five mortar bars were attained by digital image processing (DIP), using the Image Pro Plus 4.1 software package. The imaging procedure employed image segmentation, to extract mortar aggregate, and image filtering, to fix grain boundaries. The results show that digital image processing may be considered as an alternative method to mechanical sieving for the characterisation of mortar morphology, as it appears to be quicker and more accurate than the traditional method. However, digital image processing exhibits limits, which are discussed in the text.     

Studies on phytosterol oxides. II: Content in some vegetable oils and in French fries prepared in these oils

Hydrogenated rapeseed oil/palm oil blend, sunflower oil and high-oleic sunflower oil, and French fries fried in these oils were assessed for contents of sterol oxidation products. Different oxidation products of phytosterols (7α- and 7β-hydroxy-sito-and campesterol, 7-ketosito- and 7-ketocampesterol, 5α,6α-epoxy-sito- and campesterol, 5β,6β-epoxy-sito-and campesterol, dihydroxysitosterol and dihydroxycampesterol) were identified and quantiated by gas chromatography (GC) and GC-mass spectroscopy. Rapeseed oil/palm oil blend contained 41 ppm total sterol oxides before frying operations. After two days of frying, this level was increased to 60 ppm. Sunflower oil and high-oleic sunflower oil had 40 and 46 ppm sterol oxides, respectively, before frying operations. After two days of frying operations, these levels increased to 57 and 56 ppm, respectively. In addition to campesterol and sitosterol oxidation products, small amounts of 7α- and 7β-hydroxystigmasterol were detected in the oil samples. Total sterol oxides in the lipids of French fries fried at 200°C in rapeseed oil/palm oil blend, sunflower oil, and high-oleic sunflower oil were 32, 37, and 54 ppm, respectively. The levels of total oxidized sterols, calculated per g sample, ranged from 2.4 to 4.0 ppm. In addition to the content of phytosterol oxides, full scan mass spectra of several oxidation products of stigmasterol are reported for the first time. Part of these results were presented at the 86th Annual Meeting of the AOCS, May 7–11, 1995, San Antonio, TX.     

Synthesis of silver/polymer colloidal composites from surface-functional porous polymer microspheres

This study presents a different colloidal silver (Ag)/polymer system where Ag nanoparticles are deposited uniformly onto surface-functional porous poly(ethylene glycol dimethacrylate-co-acrylonitrile) (poly(EGDMA-co-AN)) microspheres. The formation and morphology of the composite microspheres were characterized from electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction analyses. The significance of the present report is that owing to the high affinity between Ag and nitrile group (CN) on the large surface of the microspheres, the Ag nanoparticles having a face-centered cubic phase were incorporated evenly into the deep pores of the microspheres with fine size and size distribution. In the preservation test, the Ag/poly(EGDMA-co-AN) composite microspheres obtained showed an excellent anti-bacterial performance, elucidating a high applicability for a new preservative.     

催化合成高聚合度萘磺酸盐缩合物

用工业萘、硫酸、甲醛为原料,合成出聚合度为16～21的β 萘磺酸盐甲醛缩合物。确立了n(甲醛)/n(萘)=0 88～0 90,反应温度(110±5)℃,反应时间3h,催化剂MA用量为萘质量的1%的最佳工艺条件。产品性能测试表明,加入质量分数为0 8%的产品,混凝土减水率可达21%以上,抗压强度可提高60%以上。     

玻纤增强PA66／PP合金的特性及应用

介绍玻纤增强ＰＡ６６／ＰＰ合金的制备工艺及特性，与纯尼龙６６树脂相比，加工性能好，综合性能优异。该材料适用于中小型油浸式变压器的分接开关及其它绝缘部件。     

Electrooxidation of formic acid on carbon supported PtxPd1−x (x = 0-1) nanocatalysts

In this work, carbon supported Pt_xPd_1−x (x = 0-1) nanocatalysts were investigated for formic acid oxidation. These catalysts were synthesized by a surfactant-stabilized method with 3-(N,N-dimethyldodecylammonio) propanesulfonate (SB12) as the stabilizer. They show better Pt/Pd dispersion and higher catalytic performance than the corresponding commercial catalysts. Furthermore, the electrocatalytic properties of Pt_xPd_1−x/C were found to depend strongly on the Pt/Pd deposition sequence and on the Pt/Pd atomic ratio. At a lower potential, formic acid oxidation current on co-deposited Pt_xPd_1−x/C catalysts increase with increasing Pd surface concentration. Nanoscale Pd/C is a promising formic acid oxidation catalyst candidate for the direct formic acid fuel cell.     

SO_4~(2-)/TiO_2-MoO_3催化合成己二酸二丁酯

以固体超强酸SO2 -4/TiO2 MoO3 为催化剂 ,通过己二酸和正丁醇反应合成了己二酸二丁酯 ,并探讨了诸因素对产率的影响。正交实验结果表明 :SO2 -4/TiO2 MoO3 具有良好的催化活性 ,醇酸物质的量比为 6∶1,催化剂用量为反应物料总质量的 3.3% ,反应时间 1.5h ,反应温度 10 6～ 10 9℃ ,酯收率可达 77.6 %。     

Band Gap Modification of Diamond Photonic Crystals by Changing the Volume Fraction of the Dielectric Lattice

Photonic crystals with a diamond structure of epoxy lattices in which TiO₂-based ceramic particles are dispersed were fabricated by stereolithography. The periodicity of the lattice was designed to reflect electromagnetic waves in the gigahertz range. The volume fraction (β) of the dielectric lattice medium was modified from 14% to 33% by changing the rod diameter of the lattice. The photonic band gap was observed along Γ-L 〈111〉, Γ-X 〈100〉, and Γ-K 〈110〉 directions and the complete photonic band gap was formed at over β= 20%. The width of the forbidden gap increased gradually when the β increased over 14%, and reached 2.4 GHz at β= 33%. These results agreed with the band calculation using the plane wave expansion method.
