The Board of Directors announces that the following 1,831 persons were elected to initial membership in the American Psychological Association by the Membership Committee, effective as of July 1, 1988. Of these, 1,553 were elected as Members, and 278 were elected as Associate members. Though not all of them have validated their election by payment of initial dues, all but a few will eventually do so. The list of new members is included. "Training group members to set session agendas: Effects on in-session behavior and member outcome": Correction to Kivlighan, Jauquet, Hardie, Francis, and Hershberger.

Reports an error in "Training group members to set session agendas: Effects on in-session behavior and member outcome" by Dennis M. Kivlighan, Carol A. Jauquet, Anne W. Hardie, Anna Maria Francis and Bernard Hershberger (Journal of Counseling Psychology, 1993[Apr], Vol 40[2], 182-187). In Table 4 (p. 186) the values for the means and standard deviations in the second, third, and fourth rows of the "Agenda setting" column were transposed with those in the "No contact" column. The corrected table is presented in this erratum. (The following abstract of the original article appeared in record 1993-26598-001.) Addressed I. D. Yalom's (1983) hypothesis that group members who set session agendas would participate more effectively in group sessions and have enhanced outcomes. The independent variable, agenda, was manipulated by assigning the 24 members of established personal growth groups to 1 of 3 conditions: (1) training in agenda setting, (2) stabilizing interviews, and (3) no-contact control. Group members filled out pre- and posttest measures of enactments of intimate behaviors and attitudes toward these enactments. They also filled out self- and other ratings of in-group enactments of intimate behaviors, and group leaders rated group members' intimate behavior at the end of each group session. Group members who set here-and-now session agendas enacted more in-group intimate behaviors and had better outcomes. Implications of these results and suggestions for group counseling are discussed. The Board of Directors announces that 3,486 persons were elected to initial membership in the American Psychological Association as of January 1, 1978. Of these, 2,525 were elected as Members, and 961 as Associate members. Though not all of them have validated their election by payment of initial dues, all but a few will eventually do so. In addition, in accordance with Article II, Section 8, of the Bylaws, 402 Associate members were transferred to Member status as of January 1, 1978. A list of new members and associates is included. Characteristics of APA members in the 1962 "National Scientific Register."

8650 (45%) of 19,370 National Register of Scientific and Technical Personnel questionnaires mailed to American Psychological Association members were returned within a month. Analysis of a 5% sample (432) provides the following information. New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Illinois, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio, and Wisconsin produced, trained, and employed approximately ? of the 1962 sample. 69% had the doctorate, 28% masters, and 4% bachelor's degree. Age range of respondents was 23-90; median 38. Principal employers were colleges, 39%, and governmental organizations, 28%. Primary full time work activities were clinical and counseling practice 28%, teaching and research 21%, management and administrative tasks, 14%. Across the Secretary's Desk: Sample of Outgoing Mail.

In February, the Executive Secretary hit upon a new and to him a nicely adaptive mechanism for meeting the constantly felt need to let American Psychological Association (APA) members know at least as much as they want to about the operation of their Central Office. He asked the professional staff of the Central Office to look through copies of the last month's correspondence from the Secretary's Audograph to see if they could find material that was (a) of at least mild potential interest to a number of APA members, (b) illustrative of some facet of APA functioning, (c) free of any threat to the privacy of the recipient, and (d) at least moderately literate. Each member of the staff found some material which he was willing, under pressure, to mark as meeting the above criteria. Though the level of reliability was nothing to brag about, the process, abetted by some editorial license, resulted in the following array of sentences and paragraphs from the Executive Secretary's outgoing correspondence for a month or so early in 1955.
