History of depression and smoking cessation outcome: A meta-analysis.

The authors conducted a meta-analysis of published studies to (a) evaluate the premise that a history of major depression is associated with failure to quit smoking and (b) identify factors that moderate the relationship between history of depression and cessation outcome. Fifteen studies met the selection requirements and were coded for various study methodology and treatment characteristics. DSTAT was used to calculate individual study effect sizes, determine the mean effect size across studies. and test for moderator effects. No differences in either short-term (≤ 3 months) or long-term abstinence rates (≥ 6 months) were observed between smokers positive versus negative for history of depression. Lifetime history of major depression does not appear to be an independent risk factor for cessation failure in smoking cessation treatment. Modelling and analysis of 3-D arrangements of particles by point processes with examples of application to biological data obtained by confocal scanning light microscopy

Within the concept of point processes, a review is presented of quantities which can be used in studies of three-dimensional (3-D) aggregates of particles. Suitable characteristics and estimators are given for both unmarked and marked point processes. To demonstrate the feasibility of such quantitative approaches, an application in histology, dealing with 3-D arrangements of cell nuclei in rat liver, is described. Using a confocal scanning light microscope, 3-D images are recorded and image analysis used to obtain the coordinates of the centroid, together with the volume and DNA content, of each cell nucleus. Examples of results are given, using both unmarked and marked point processes. In the latter case, cell type, nuclear volume and ploidy group are suitable marks.     

HiSQL: A Front-end Query System for Historical Relational Databases

The paper describes a prototype system called HiSQL (Historical SQL) which extends the functionality of SQL in manipulating historical data, by providing functions for spatial and temporal processing. Conceptually the paper is divided into three parts: the first part deals with the design and architecture of the system; the second part introduces a case study (the defters); and the third part describes specific functions for spatial and temporal processing of serial documents. The paper concludes with a comparison between HiSQL and SQL and suggestions for further work. This revised version was published online in August 2006 with corrections to the Cover Date.

Room temperature characterization of Hg1-xCdxTe P-on-n heterostructure photodiodes

Measurements of 77K R_oA and 300K reverse bias dynamic impedance (R_dA) products at one volt reverse bias has been carried out to assess the degree of correlation of this figure of merit. Planar P-on-n heterostructures were grown on near lattice-matched CdZnTe substrates with Hg_1-xCd_xTe (0.20< x <0.30) by molecular beam epitaxy. These devices were passivated with CdTe and doped with indium and arsenic as n- and p-type dopants, respectively. Current-voltage characteristic of these devices exhibit thermally generated dark currents at small and modest reverse bias. We have observed that R_oA values of these long wavelength infrared P-on-n heterostructure photodiodes at 77K correlate with room temperature R_dA values. Diode arrays with high room temperature R_dA values at one volt reverse bias also have high R_oA values at 77K. Similarly, low R_dA values at room temperature indicate poor performance at 77K where deviation from diffusion current occurs at reverse bias of 0.2 to 1 volt at room temperature. The results presented here, for a small samples of devices, demonstrate that room temperature measurements of current-voltage characteristics to evaluate Hg_1-xCd_xTe (0.22< x <0.28) diode performance and array uniformity at lower temperatures can be used. This provides an acceptable criteria for further study at lower temperatures.

HIS变换用于数字化航空片影象同多光谱影象的复合

本文探讨ＨＩＳ变换对数字化航空片影象与ｌａｎｄｓａｔ ＴＭ多光谱影象进行复合的方法，并在此基础上提出一种改进的方法。试验结果表明本文提出的方法是一种非常行之有效的方法。复合后的影象不仅保留了ＴＭ影像的光谱特征，而且将其空间分解力由３０ｍ提高到１０ｍ，清晰度也提高了。因而复合后的影像能提高分类精度，制作专题图的精度、多时相监测能力和解译水平等。     

一种高温蓄冷介质蓄放冷特性的应用研究

采用实验的方法获得了氯酸锂共晶盐的蓄放冷特性的实用关系式。这种介质的融点为８℃，单位体积蓄冷量比冰大３０％，适于用作空调系统中的蓄冷材料。
