Comparative psychology?

A review of types of animals and behavior studied in the Journal of Comparative and Physiological Psychology from 1968 to July 1972 suggests that American comparative psychologists have maintained an extremely narrow position by concentrating their experimental work on learning and on the rat. Editorial.

This, the last issue of the Journal of Abnormal and Social Psychology, brings to an end an alliance of some 44 years' standing. In January of 1965 the journal will be split into two independent periodicals, the Journal of Abnormal Psychology and the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology. Journal of Counseling Psychology (January 1973): Errata.

Reports an error in the table of contents of the Journal of Counseling Psychology. The article "On Measuring the Vocational Interests of Women" (see record 1973-23974-001) by Nancy S. Cole (1973[Mar], 20[2], 105-112) that was listed on page 16 in the January table of contents appears in this issue of the Journal. Appearing on page 16 in the January issue, in fact, is "Instability of Therapeutic Conditions in Psychotherapy" (see record 1973-21485-001), by Alan S. Gurman (1973[Jan], 20(1), 16-24). Park Olof Davidson: 1937-1980.

The distinguished career of Park Davidson came to a tragic end when he and his wife, Sheena, were killed in an automobile accident on December 21, 1980. The impact of this shattering event is not yet fully comprehended by the community of psychologists in Canada, but we know how sorely his friendship, inspiration, and guidance will be missed. Park had served as Editor of the Canadian Journal of Behavioural Science since 1974. Park enjoyed many other distinctions as a professional psychologist, academician, and research scientist. He served a distinguished term as President of the Canadian Psychological Association. Still a young man, he had already been President of the Psychological Association of Alberta and Chairman of the Advisory Council of Provincial Associations of Psychology, in addition to providing wise counsel for many other professional organizations, government agencies, community organizations, and universities. As well as being editor of several of these volumes, Park was a vigorous research scientist whose interests and publications ranged through stress management, pain, alcoholism, parent-infant interaction, and programme evaluation. Canadian Psychologist--1969.

At the 1968 annual meeting of the Canadian Psychological Association the President announced that the Canadian Journal of Behavioral Science would publish its first issue in January 1969. Undoubtedly this new journal will attract the attention of psychologists who formerly submitted articles to the Canadian Psychologist. Consequently, the editorial office of the Canadian Psychologist wishes to state its editorial policy in order that all writers be informed as to the objectives of the journal. The Canadian Psychologist will continue to publish the official affairs and proceedings of the Canadian Psychological Association, as well as notes and comments on psychological matters. In addition it will accept evaluative reviews, expressions of opinions and articles related to historical or theoretical questions. Stability analysis of a disk-spindle system supported by coupled journal and thrust bearings considering five degrees of freedom

This paper investigates the stability of a disk-spindle system supported by coupled journal and thrust bearings considering the five degrees of freedom of a rotor-bearing system. The Reynolds equations and their perturbed equations of the coupled bearings were solved by FEM to calculate the stiffness and damping coefficients. The critical mass of the rotor-bearing system was determined by solving the linear equations of motion. As a result, the tilting motion was a major design consideration to determine the stability of the rotor-bearing system. Additionally, the stability without the tilting motion was overestimated, as compared to that with the tilting motion.
