The present work investigates problems: (1) How are the plastic strain and the stress (triaxiality) re-distributed after a short crack initiated, extended and blunted at the pre-crack tip? (2) How do the above changes put a crucial effect on the triggering of the cleavage fracture? Based on the previous observations of configuration changes and fracture surfaces of pre-crack tips, Finite element method (FEM) simulations of a short crack initiated, extended and blunted at a pre-crack tip and calculations of distributions of stress, strain and triaxiality are carried out for 3PB pre-cracked HSLA steel specimens tested at -130°C. The results reveal that: as long as the fatigue pre-crack is only blunted, in its vicinity a region where the accumulated strain is sufficient to nucleate a crack, and a region where the stress (triaxiality) is sufficient to propagate a crack nucleus are separated by a distance. The nucleated crack cannot be propagated and the cleavage fracture cannot be triggered. While a short crack produced at the fully blunted fatigue pre-crack, the strain retains, the stress (triaxiality) is rebuilt. An initiated and significantly extended and then blunted short crack makes a tip configuration, which on one hand is much sharper than that of the fully blunted original pre-crack tip, on other hand is wide enough to spread its effects into the high stress covered region. This sharpened crack tip configuration re-builds a ‘sharper’ distribution of stress (triaxiality) and makes two regions metioned above closer. Finally the two regions overlap each other and a cleavage crack can be initiated and propagated at a distance ahead of the blunted fatigue pre-crack.  相似文献

To identify material parameters from suitable experiments it is prevalent to use global informations like force–displacement or force–necking curves. The quality of accordance between measured and calculated forces at given displacements can be expressed by a least-squares functional. In this contribution a non-linear optimization method will be presented, which minimizes the least-squares functional by use of a gradient based method. The gradient of this functional is calculated in a semi-analytical sensitivity analysis. To determine the derivatives of the force with respect to the material parameters, the local sensitivities on an intersection will be added together. On this intersection, the total nodal force and the external force have to be equal and the normal displacements have to be independent on the material parameters. The parameter identification is embedded in the finite element code SPC-PMHP for solving non-linear boundary and initial value problems on parallel computers. The Gurson–Tvergaard–Needleman model is used to describe the plastic deformation and damage behaviour of the ductile structural steel StE 690. The developed algorithm is applied to tensile tests with notched cylindrical bars.  相似文献

This paper describes a theoretical model and related computational methods for examining the influence of inhomogeneous material properties on the crack driving force in elastic and elastic-plastic materials. Following the configurational forces approach, the crack tip shielding or anti-shielding due to smooth (e.g. graded layer) and discontinuous (e.g. bimaterial interface) distributions in material properties are derived. Computational post-processing methods are described to evaluate these inhomogeneity effects. The utility of the theoretical model and computational methods is demonstrated by examining a bimaterial interface perpendicular to a crack in elastic and elastic-plastic compact tension specimens.  相似文献

Due to the enormous difference in the scales involved in correlating the macroscopic properties with the micro- and nano-physical mechanisms of carbon nanotube-reinforced composites, multiscale mechanics analysis is of considerable interest. A hybrid atomistic/continuum mechanics method is established in the present paper to study the deformation and fracture behaviors of carbon nanotubes (CNTs) in composites. The unit cell containing a CNT embedded in a matrix is divided in three regions, which are simulated by the atomic-potential method, the continuum method based on the modified Cauchy–Born rule, and the classical continuum mechanics, respectively. The effect of CNT interaction is taken into account via the Mori–Tanaka effective field method of micromechanics. This method not only can predict the formation of Stone–Wales (5-7-7-5) defects, but also simulate the subsequent deformation and fracture process of CNTs. It is found that the critical strain of defect nucleation in a CNT is sensitive to its chiral angle but not to its diameter. The critical strain of Stone–Wales defect formation of zigzag CNTs is nearly twice that of armchair CNTs. Due to the constraint effect of matrix, the CNTs embedded in a composite are easier to fracture in comparison with those not embedded. With the increase in the Young’s modulus of the matrix, the critical breaking strain of CNTs decreases.  相似文献

根据断裂力学和随机过程理论,提出了一个随机荷载作用下疲劳裂纹扩展的统计模型。在基于应变能密度因子变程的确定性疲劳裂纹扩展速率公式中引入材料内在的分散性和外部荷载的随机性,将疲劳裂纹扩展近似为连续型马尔可夫过程。应用随机平均法导出了裂纹扩展过程转移概率满足的向后Fokker-Planck方程,并得出相应的边界条件。采用本征函数法进行求解,以收敛的无穷级数表示出疲劳裂纹扩展寿命的分布函数。作为一个算例,具体计算出疲劳裂纹扩展寿命的分布密度曲线。  相似文献

利用超声波断口图技术对不同类型的带单侧贯穿裂纹的PMMA试件进行了测试,得到试件断口上的超声波线。基于ANSYS软件的有限元分析,计算了试件的三维J积分,得到的试件在不同裂纹长度下的三维J积分与它们断口图上的超声波线的形状和凸凹方向相似,将试件扩展裂纹前缘由直线调整为特定曲线后,计算出的三维J积分趋向常量,证实了扩展裂纹前缘的任一点,J积分矢量的幅值都是相同常量的假设。  相似文献

A simple analytical method is presented that can be used to predict the intralaminar fracture toughness of multilayered composite laminate based on the failure stresses of its sub laminates. MCCI approach is followed to verify the fracture toughness of a base laminate and the method is validated comparing the available test data on the toughness value of the base laminate with the prediction. It is observed that a better representation of carbon —epoxy base laminate by its sub laminate gives very good agreement in prediction within 3%.  相似文献
