This article discusses the practicality of replacing portland cements with alternative hydraulic cements that could result in lower total CO2 emissions per unit volume of concrete of equivalent performance. Currently, the cement industry is responding rapidly to the perceived societal need for reduced CO2 emissions by increasing the production of blended portland cements using supplementary cementitious materials that are principally derived from industrial by-products, such as blast-furnace slags and coal combustion fly ashes. However, the supplies of such by-products of suitable quality are limited. An alternative solution is to use natural pozzolans, although they must still be activated either by portland cement or lime or by alkali silicates or hydroxides, the production of all of which still involves significant CO2 emissions. Moreover, concretes based on activated pozzolans often require curing at elevated temperatures, which significantly limits their field of application.The most promising alternative cementing systems for general concrete applications at ambient temperatures currently appear to be those based at least in part on calcium sulfates, the availability of which is increasing due to the widespread implementation of sulfur dioxide emission controls. These include calcium sulfoaluminate-belite-ferrite cements of the type developed in China under the generic name “Third Cement Series” (TCS) and other similar systems that make good use of the potential synergies among calcium sulfate, calcium silicate and calcium aluminate hydrates. However, a great deal more research is required to solve significant unresolved processing and reactivity questions and to establish the durability of concretes made from such cements. If we are to use these potentially more CO2-efficient technologies on a large enough scale to have a significant global impact, we will also have to develop the performance data needed to justify changes to construction codes and standards.  相似文献

Hydrodynamic measurements were made in a bubbling fluidized bed operated at 550°C at three different excess gas velocities (0.15, 0.40 and ). The bed has a cross-sectional area of with an immersed tube bank consisting of 59 horizontal stainless steel tubes (AISI 304L), 21 of which are exchangeable, thus allowing erosion studies. Capacitance probe analysis was used to determine the mean bubble rise velocity, the mean bubble frequency, the mean pierced bubble length, the mean bubble volume fraction and the mean visible bubble flow rate. Tube wastage was calculated from roundness profiles obtained by stylus profilometry.A redistribution of the bubble flow towards the center of the bed occurs when the excess gas velocity is increased. Measurements along a target tube, situated next to the capacitance probe, usually show greater material wastage at the central part of the tube, since the mean bubble rise velocity and the mean visible bubble flow rate are higher there. It is suggested that the greater material degradation is also an effect of the through-flow of a particle-transporting gas stream in the bubbles. With increasing height above the distributor plate the circumferential wastage profiles for the lowest excess gas velocity show a gradual change from an erosion pattern with one maximum (Type B behavior) to a pattern with two maxima (Type A behavior). Power spectral density distributions of the fluctuating pressure signals show that this is a result of the formation of larger bubbles, when the fluidization regime is changed in the upper part of the bed. At the highest excess gas velocity the bubble flow becomes more constrained due to a more rapid coalescence of the bubbles and the tubes show Type A wastage profiles throughout the bed.  相似文献

The oxidative absorption of hydrogen sulfide (H2S) into a solution of ferric chelate of trans-1,2- diaminocyclohexanetetraacetate (CDTA) was studied in a counter-current laboratory column randomly packed with 15 mm plastic Ralu rings. The present investigation takes concern about the Kraft pulping situation where dilute H2S concentrations are omnipresent in large-volume gas effluents. A fractional two-level factorial approach was instigated to determine the significance of six operating variables, namely the solution's alkalinity (pH; 8.5-10.5), the liquid mass flow rate (L;1.73-), the solution's ionic strength (IC;0.01-), the gas mass flow rate (G;0.19-), the inlet H2S concentration (CH2S,0;70-430 ppm) and the initial ferric CDTA concentration (CFe,0;100 -). Initially, a Plackett-Burman design matrix of seven duplicated experiments revealed that pH is the leading factor controlling the H2S conversion rate while the ionic strength and ferric CDTA concentration effects remained negligible within the factorial domain. Surface response analysis based on 11 duplicated factorial experiments plus 10 central composite trials revealed that the H2S conversion significantly increases with liquid flow rate but decreases with growing H2S load up. Further examination about the influence of ferric CDTA on H2S absorption rate was set up over a broader concentration range (CFe,0;0- at pH of 9.5 and 10.5. It showed good potential at as H2S conversion increased by a significant 25% for both pH values in comparison to pure alkaline solutions containing no ferric CDTA.  相似文献
