Finite element analysis of the hip implant is conducted in this paper for representative femoral cross-section geometries and development of stress in the presence of bone cement is elucidated. Differences in cement stresses generated by varying implant cross-sections were compared with conventional features derived from representative implants. The analysis was performed under idealized implant assemblies by constraining the implant movement in the assembly. The cross-sections and implant geometries used are generic and intended to be representative of available geometries. This paper is a part of student research projects, prepared from a series of activities in biomedical implant research currently underway at Ohio Northern and Arkansas Tech Universities. 相似文献

Incorporation of silicon species from an alloy substrate into anodic titania is shown to stabilise the structure of the film, facilitating investigation of the ionic transport processes in amorphous titania grown at high efficiency. Thus, an amorphous anodic film developed on a sputtering-deposited Ti-6 at.%Si alloy formed to 100 V in phosphoric acid electrolyte in contrast to a partially crystalline film developed on relatively pure titanium at <20 V. Silicon species, which are immobile and act as marker species in the growing film, are present in the inner 58% of the film thickness. Evidently, the film material forms simultaneously at the film/electrolyte and alloy/film interfaces by co-operative transport of cations and anions, as is usual in amorphous anodic oxides. The phosphate anions incorporated from the electrolyte migrate inward at 0.34 times the rate of O2− ions and hence are present in the outer 62% of the film thickness. 相似文献

Ternary Ti-Al-Nb elemental powder blends with minor addition of SiC were synthesized in a high energy ball mill in order to understand the structural evolution during mechanical alloying (MA) and subsequent thermal treatment. X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) techniques were employed to study the structural development during MA. Ti-48%Al-4%Nb-3%SiC and Ti-48%Al-8%Nb-3%SiC blends milled to 20 h were subjected to thermal treatment at 750 °C for 1 h in vacuum. Repeated cold welding and fracturing events of MA resulted in nanocrystalline structure with supersaturated solid solution and amorphous phase. The powder particles were also refined to submicron size due to high energy collision. The nanocrystalline supersaturated solid solution evolved by MA was sustained for prolonged milling time. There was no evidence of intermetallics formation even after early solid solubility extension and formation of nanocrystalline structure. However, nanostructured TiAl and Ti3Al intermetallic compounds were observed after giving thermal treatment to MA powder blend. Since their surface area and energy were enhanced to a great extent, the dispersed ceramic particles reacted with titanium and formed nanosilicide particles. 相似文献

In the present work the formation of the interface between polycrystalline silver and thin films of titanium oxide was studied with photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS, UPS) and time-of-flight secondary ion mass spectrometry (TOF-SIMS). Titanium oxide was deposited stepwise on 100 nm thick silver films by reactive magnetron sputtering allowing to study the evolution of the interface formation process. The process involves two steps: formation of thin layer of silver oxide and subsequent growth of the TiO2 film. For better understanding of the silver oxidation process, pure silver films were exposed to a low temperature Ar/O plasma for different time intervals providing a possibility to investigate early stages of the oxide film growth. 相似文献

Natural rubber (NR) can be degraded depending on various factors such as heat, mechanical force, chemical reaction, and light.
Light is a very interesting factor because it can cause the NR to degrade under low temperature and pressure. The photo-degradation
of NR films was carried out to investigate the effects of the light and the temperature on the reduction of the weight-average
molecular weight (Mw) and the double bonds in the NR films. The NR films, with and without catalysts, titanium dioxide (TiO2), and potassium persulfate (K2S2O8), were exposed to light from a mercury light bulb at 7,000 and 36,000 lux, and at the temperature of 25 °C and 80 °C for
192 hrs. After exposure, the Mw of the NR films was analyzed by gel permeation chromatography (GPC). Changes in the Mw were
used to construct a kinetic model for the process, (1/Mw)=(1/Mw0)+(kt/2M0) where k is the rate constant, and M0 is the Mw of the monomer unit. The linear relationship between 1/Mw and time suggested pseudo first-order processes with
random scission. The Mw distribution information from the GPC was used to calculate the number of double bonds in the NR films.
The trend of the double bonds reduction curves was quite similar to the result obtained from the calculation from the FTIR
spectra. This indicated that this calculation method might possibly be another alternative way to obtain the number of double
