Electron spectroscopies and their use for materials characterization

We present here a general overview of electron spectroscopies from a practical point of view. The most frequently used ones are described and the type of structural information they can provide on materials is explained in relation to the physical processes on which they are based. Furthermore, we explore critically and in detail various tools that have been developed to allow a systematic solving of structures by these spectroscopies.     

Advanced New Lightweight Materials: Hollow‐Sphere Composites (HSCs) for Mechanical Engineering Applications

“Lightweight” is a major trend in machine tool design to ensure higher speed and higher acceleration of elements, which results from state‐of‐the‐art technology, such as the new linear drive and the control system.^[1] Research is being carried out in institutes worldwide into lightweight construction by either design and/or choice of material. One type of advanced lightweight engineering material to reduce the mass of the moving parts of machine tools is hollow‐sphere composites. Investigations of their thermal and mechanical properties show the superior quality of HSCs compared with alternative materials. Example applications of hollow‐sphere composites include the table of a milling machine and robot arms.

本文综述了无机分离膜在应用领域的研究情况,着重介绍了无机分离膜在气体分离、膜反应器、生物反应器和血浆成分分离等方面的应用,讨论了无机膜自身的缺陷和今后有待研究解决的课题.

Degradation of lincomycin in aqueous medium: Coupling of solar photocatalysis and membrane separation

The photocatalytic oxidation of a common antibiotic, the lincomycin was carried out in aqueous suspensions of polycrystalline TiO₂ Degussa P25 irradiated by sunlight. In order to improve the performance of the lincomycin degradation a hybrid system consisting of a solar photoreactor with the photocatalyst in suspension coupled with a membrane module, used to confine both photocatalyst and pollutants in the reaction environment, was tested.A preliminary study was carried out in order to determine some kinetics parameters of the drug photodegradation. The influence of initial substrate concentration on the lincomycin photooxidation rate was investigated. The photooxidation rate follows a pseudo-first order kinetics with respect to the lincomycin concentration under the used experimental conditions. The presence of the membrane reactor allows the catalyst separation and to operate in continuous mode as the membranes rejection for lincomycin and its oxidation products was quite high.
