NUMERICAL ANALYSIS AND EXPERI- MENT OF UNSTEADY THERMAL FIELD OF ROTOR PLATE FOR EDDY CURRENT RETARDER

The physical model based on heat transfer theory and virtual boundary method for analyzing unsteady thermal field of rotor plate for eddy current retarder used in automobile is established and boundary conditions are also defined. The finite element governing equation is derived by Galerkin method. The time differential item is discrete based on Galerkin format that is stable at any condition. And a new style of varying time step method is used in iteration process. The thermal field on the rotor plate at the radial and axle directions is analyzed and varying temperature at appointed points on two side-surfaces is measured. The testing and analytical data are uniform approximately. Finite element method can be used for estimating thermal field of the rotor plate at initial design stage of eddy current retarder.

Flow Control Through the Use of Topography

In this work, optimal shaft shapes for flow in the annular space between a rotating shaft with axially-periodic radius and a fixed coaxial outer circular cylinder, are investigated. Axisymmetric steady flows in this geometry are determined by solving the full Navier-Stokes equations in the actual domain. A measure of the flow field, a weighted convex combination of the volume averaged square of the L₂-norm of the velocity and vorticity vectors, is employed. It has been demonstrated that boundary shape can be used to influence the characteristics of the flow field, such as its velocity component distribution, kinetic energy, or even vorticity. This ability to influence flow fields through boundary shape may be employed to improve microfluidic mixing or, possibly, to minimize shear in biological applications.     

Nonlinear discrete-time models: state-space vs. I/O representations

This paper compares state-space and input–output realizations for nonlinear discrete-time dynamic models. For linear models, these two realizations are essentially equivalent and their structures are closely related, but these statements do not hold for nonlinear models. We illustrate this point with simple, realistic examples for which only one of the two realizations exists or for which both exist but their structures are profoundly different. Overall, the main point of this paper is the importance of the choice of realization in the development of nonlinear dynamic models.

An investigation of the relation between the temperature dependences of the initial unbalance and the output signal of resistance strain sensor bridge circuits

The relation between the initial unbalance and the output signal of bridge circuits when acted upon simultaneously by the physical factor being measured and the temperature of the surroundings when the bridge is supplied from a voltage or current source is investigated. Influence of additives on electrodeposition of bright Zn-Ni alloy on mild steel from acid sulphate bath

The influence of a condensation product (CP) of veratraldehyde (VRTD) and p-amino benzoic acid (PABA) on Zn-Ni alloy electrodeposited onto mild steel was studied in acidic sulphate solutions. Ethylenediaminetetraaceticacid (EDTA) and cetyltrimethylammoniumbromide (CTAB) were used as complexing and wetting agents, respectively. The effect of bath constituents, pH, current density and temperature on nature of deposit were studied through Hull cell experiments. The bath constituents and operating parameters were optimized. Deposit properties and corrosion resistance were discussed. Throwing power, current efficiency and polarization studies were carried out. SEM photomicrographs of the deposit obtained from optimum bath revealed fine-grained deposit of the alloy in the presence of condensation product and hence modified the morphology of zinc-nickel alloy deposit. IR spectrum of the scrapped deposit showed inclusion of addition agent.

Thermally stimulated discharge current (TSDC) and dielectric constant of semiconducting glasses

In this paper the results of thermally stimulated discharge current (TSDC) and dielectric constant for 40PbO-60Bi₂O₃ glass thermoelectrets are presented. Measurements of TSDC and dielectric constant, ǵe, have been carried out in the temperature range 30–300°C. The thermoelectrets were prepared at different polarizing fields. The various observed peaks in the thermograms are discussed on the basis of space charge polarization. The trap energy is evaluated from the Garlick-Gibson plot of initial rise method. Similarly other parameters such as relaxation time, charge release etc are evaluated.
