Removal of Cu, Cr and As metals from chromated copper arsenate (CCA) treated yellow pine wood samples with three different dimensions were investigated by extraction with oleic acid at four different pH levels. The concentrations of Cu, Cr and As were determined by XRF. The effects of pH, dimension and duration on remediation of CCA-treated wood samples were determined. Oleic acid was found to be very effective to remove copper, chromium and arsenic from CCA-treated wood samples especially at lower pH levels (pH=2.00 and 2.50). In addition, the best models estimate copper, chromium and arsenic leaching from CCA-treated wood samples by oleic acid remediation were determined by step-wise regression analysis.  相似文献

Ethylene–propylene–diene rubbers (EPDM) with 2-ethylidene-5-norbornene (ENB), dicyclopentadiene (DCPD), and 1,4-hexadiene (HD) as third monomers have been vulcanized with peroxide and with a conventional sulfur vulcanization recipe, and their devulcanization was subsequently investigated for recycling purposes. The behavior of these vulcanizates during pure thermal devulcanization depends on the EPDM third monomer and the crosslinker used. Peroxide vulcanizates of ENB-EPDM devulcanize only to a small extent and predominantly by random scission, whereas peroxide vulcanizates of HD-EPDM devulcanize by crosslink scission. In contrast, sulfur vulcanizates of ENB-EPDM, devulcanize mainly by crosslink scission. During devulcanization of sulfur-cured HD-EPDM, scission of both crosslinks and main chains occurs. Sulfur-cured DCPD-EPDM cannot be devulcanized but shows further crosslinking instead. In those cases, where purely thermal devulcanization is already effective to a certain extent, diphenyldisulfide as devulcanization agent increases the effectivity during thermochemical devulcanization. Hexadecylamine as an alternative devulcanization agent is effective for ENB-EPDM but does not contribute to thermochemical devulcanization of HD-EPDM. In summary, devulcanization proceeds by different mechanisms in ENB-EPDM, DCPD-EPDM, and HD-EPDM. Explanations are given in terms of the chemical structures of the third monomers, the corresponding crosslinks, and devulcanization agents. © 2008 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Bracon hebetor is a larval ectoparasitoid that utilizes several pests belonging to the family Pyralidae (Lepidoptera) as hosts. In the present study, we analyzed the kairomonal response of this wasp to the male-produced sex pheromone of a host, the greater wax moth Galleria mellonella, an economically important pest of honeybees, Apis mellifera. Coupled gas chromatography-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD) revealed three compounds in headspace collections from male G. mellonella that elicited responses from B. hebetor antennae: decanal and the previously identified sex pheromone components, nonanal and undecanal. Y-tube olfactometer tests that used naïve, mated wasps showed that females, but not males, were highly attracted to (a) male G. mellonella headspace samples, (b) two synthetic blends of nonanal and undecanal (in ratios matching that found in male moth samples), and (c) the two aldehydes tested individually. Further, female wasps did not discriminate between a blend of aldehydes and male G. mellonella headspace. In dose-response trials that used octanal, nonanal, decanal, and undecanal, no difference in EAG responses of the two sexes was observed, except for undecanal at the second highest dose, for which female antennae showed significantly larger responses than did male antennae. When the two binary blends were tested at different doses, female wasps were significantly attracted to the two highest doses (1 µg and 10 µg), but not to the lowest dose (100 ng). Our results show that females of this economically important parasitoid utilize the male-produced sex pheromone of a host as an indirect cue to guide them to potential oviposition sites.  相似文献

All cells generate contractile tension. This strain is crucial for mechanically controlling the cell shape, function and survival. In this study, the CellDrum technology quantifying cell's (the cellular) mechanical tension on a pico-scale was used to investigate the effect of lipopolysaccharide (LPS) on human aortic endothelial cell (HAoEC) tension. The LPS effect during gram-negative sepsis on endothelial cells is cell contraction causing endothelium permeability increase. The aim was to finding out whether recombinant activated protein C (rhAPC) would reverse the endothelial cell response in an in-vitro sepsis model. In this study, the established in-vitro sepsis model was confirmed by interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels at the proteomic and genomic levels by ELISA, real time-PCR and reactive oxygen species (ROS) activation by florescence staining. The thrombin cellular contraction effect on endothelial cells was used as a positive control when the CellDrum technology was applied. Additionally, the Ras homolog gene family, member A (RhoA) mRNA expression level was checked by real time-PCR to support contractile tension results. According to contractile tension results, the mechanical predominance of actin stress fibers was a reason of the increased endothelial contractile tension leading to enhanced endothelium contractility and thus permeability enhancement. The originality of this data supports firstly the basic measurement principles of the CellDrum technology and secondly that rhAPC has a beneficial effect on sepsis influenced cellular tension. The technology presented here is promising for future high-throughput cellular tension analysis that will help identify pathological contractile tension responses of cells and prove further cell in-vitro models.  相似文献

To accomplish network layer integration of terrestrial and satellite IP networks, special exterior gateway protocols are needed. In this work, a new exterior gateway protocol called Border Gateway Protocol – Satellite version (BGP-S) is introduced that enables automated discovery of paths that go through the satellite network. This protocol is designed to work in only one terrestrial gateway in every Autonomous System and enables the forwarding of discovered paths in the Internet using the BGP-4 protocol. Herein, we consider an underlay cognitive radio network (CRN) where mobile secondary user wishes to transmit a confidential information to the secondary destination in the presence of an illegitimate eavesdropper which is trying to steal the classified message signal. The proposed scenario can be viable for a secondary safety task force working with a primary regiment, which wishes to transmit the confidential information to the commander while an eavesdropper is trying to intercept the classified information. In the analysis, two novel power allocation methods are considered by assuming perfect and limited feedback channels of the primary network, and for both methods, exact and asymptotic expressions of secrecy outage probability (SOP) are derived for N*Nakagami‐m fading channels which are used to model fading channels such as mobile‐to‐mobile/vehicle‐to‐vehicle communication systems where the nodes are moving into a rich scattering environment. We further verified our analytic results through Monte‐Carlo simulations. It is shown from the numerical results that the cascading degree of the channels has a worsening effect on the secrecy outage performance of the CRN systems.  相似文献

Temperature‐sensitive poly[(2‐diethylaminoethyl methacrylate)‐co‐(N,N‐dimethylacrylamide)] [P(DEAEMA‐co‐DMAAm)] hydrogels with five different DMAAm contents were synthesized with and without the addition of sodium carbonate as porosity generator. The synthesized hydrogels were characterized with dry gel density measurements, scanning electron microscopy observation and the determination of swelling ratio. The influence of the pore‐forming agent and content of DMAAm on swelling ratio and network parameters such as polymer–solvent interaction parameter (χ), average molecular mass between crosslinks (M?c) and mesh size (ζ) of the cryogels are reported and discussed. The swelling and deswelling rates of the porous hydrogels are much faster than for the same type of hydrogels prepared via conventional methods. At a temperature below the volume phase transition temperature, the macroporous hydrogels also absorbed larger amounts water compared to that of conventional hydrogels and showed obviously higher equilibrated swelling ratios in aqueous medium. In particular, the unique macroporous structure provided numerous water channels for water diffusion in or out of the matrix and, therefore, an improved response rate to the external temperature changes during the deswelling and swelling processes. These properties are attributed to the macroporous and regularly arranged network of the porous hydrogels. Scanning electron micrographs reveal that the macroporous network structure of the hydrogels can be adjusted by applying porosity generation methods during the polymerization reaction.
