Forty samples each of leaves of birch (Betula pubescens Ehrh.), European mountain ash (Sorbus aucuparia (L.)) and bracken fern (Pteridium aquilinum (L.) Kuhn) as well as spruce needles (Picea abies (L.) Karsten) were collected along a 120 km south-north transect running through Norway's largest city, Oslo. Concentrations of 25 chemical elements (Ag, Au, B, Ba, Ca, Cd, Co, Cr, Cu, Fe, Hg, K, La, Mg, Mn, Mo, Na, Ni, P, Pb, S, Sb, Sr, Ti, and Zn) as well as loss on ignition for the 4 sample materials are reported. The decline of input of sea spray with distance from the coast, geology, pH and anthropogenic contamination all played a role for the observed element concentrations in the leaves. Although growing under exactly the same natural conditions each plant species displayed quite unique uptake characteristics. Plant-species dependency and individual differences in the reaction of the plant leaves to different element sources make the investigated species of very limited value as bioindicators of anthropogenic activities. Anthropogenic contamination influences plant-leaf element content within a limited distance ( approximately 20 km) from the source.  相似文献

In acidified aluminium (Al) rich freshwater positively charged Al-species (Al(i)) are the key toxic components due to the accumulation in fish gills. As a countermeasure, liming is used to increase the pH and reduce the concentration of Al(i)-species; in particular low molecular mass (LMM) Al(i)-species by hydrolyses. However, very toxic high molecular mass (HMM) Al polymers can form in the unstable mixing zone immediately after liming. In the present work gill reactivity of LMM and HMM Al-species was studied under controlled conditions in eight channel-tank mixing zone systems in the field where Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar L.) kept in cages were exposed to defined mixing zone water. Mixing zones were created by continually liming acid river water (pH 5.0-5.7) high in LMM Al(i) to pH 6.0 and 6.4, respectively. Transformation processes affecting the Al-speciation as a function of time after liming were documented by in situ hollow fibre ultrafiltration interfaced with ion chromatography, while the Al accumulation in fish gills was used as bioindicator. For fish exposed to mixing zone water immediately after liming (1 min) the Al accumulation in gills (mug Al g(-1)) was higher (factor of 2) than for fish exposed to acid water prior to liming, due to the formation of gill reactive HMM Al(i)-species. The Al accumulation in gills followed a first order kinetic expression reaching steady-state conditions after 24-h exposures. The deposition rate of Al in gills (mug Al g(-1) h(-1)) correlated with the water concentrations of HMM Al(i) (R(2)=0.80) in the mixing zones, and for LMM Al(i) in the acid water (R(2)=0.92). Due to the transient nature of HMM Al(i) the deposition rate of Al decreased from the point of liming with a factor of 10 downstream the channel-tank system (i.e. 100 min after liming). The concentration of gill accumulated Al was higher (factor of 3) immediately after high level liming (pH 6.4) than following low level liming (pH 6.0). However, high level liming was more efficient in detoxifying Al in downstream waters. Furthermore, the bioavailability of a given LMM Al(i) concentration as well as bioreactivity following liming was dependent on the TOC and silicon concentration in the acid water. Increased concentration of TOC (1.5 to 4.3 mg l(-1)) and silicon (0.3 to 1.0 mg l(-1)) reduced the gill reactivity of Al(i) by approximately 50%.  相似文献

The effect of ozonation on the biodegradability of 100-ppm aqueous solutions of 2,4-dichlorophenol has been investigated. BOD at 5, 10 and 21 days, BOD/COD and BOD/TOC ratios and the average oxidation state are presented. Biodegradability measured as BOD5/COD ratio was increased from 0 of the original solution to 0.25 at the moment of removing all the initial compound (corresponding to an ozone dose of 0.12 g L−1, 0.48 for BOD21/COD ratio). To test the effect of this pre-treatment, the biological oxidation of these pre-ozonated solutions was performed in two semi-continuous stirred tank reactors, one with non-acclimated sludge and one with acclimated-to-phenol sludge. The study showed that the TOC content of the pre-treated solution could be removed up to 68% by an aerobic biological treatment as well as co-digested with municipal wastewater (TOC removal up to 82%), with similar operating retention times to a municipal wastewater plant (12-24 h). Kinetic studies based on Monod model have also been carried out. Pseudo-first-order kinetic constants were found to be in the range of 0.5-0.8 L g TVSS−1 h−1.  相似文献

Adsorption isotherms of organic micropollutants in coexistence with natural organic matter (NOM) were analyzed to evaluate the impacts of pore size distribution of activated carbon (AC) on the competition effects of the NOM. Single solute adsorption experiments and simultaneous adsorption experiments with NOM contained in a coagulation-pretreated surface water were performed for four agricultural chemicals and three coal-based activated carbons (ACs) having different pore distributions. The results showed that, for all the carbons used, the adsorption capacity of the chemicals was reduced distinctly in the presence of NOM. Such a reduction was more apparent for AC with a larger portion of small pores suitable for the adsorption of small organic molecules and for the agricultural chemicals with a more hydrophilic nature. Ideal adsorbed solution theory (IAST) incorporated with the Freundlich isotherm expression (IAST-Freundlich model) could not interpret the impact of NOM on the adsorption capacity of the chemicals unless a pore blockage effect caused by the adsorption of NOM was also considered. By taking into account this effect, the adsorption isotherm of the chemicals in the presence of NOM was well described, and the capacity reduction caused by the NOM was quantitatively assessed from the viewpoints of the site competition and the pore blockage. Analytical results clearly indicated that pore blockage was an important competition mechanism that contributed to 10-99% of the total capacity reductions of the chemicals, the level depended greatly on the ACs, the chemicals and the equilibrium concentrations, and could possibly be alleviated by broadening the pore size distributions of the ACs to provide a large volume percentage for pores with sizes above 30 A.  相似文献

An assessment of selenium to mercury in Greenland marine animals   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
Information on mercury and selenium molar relation in muscle, liver and kidney tissue of Greenland marine animals is presented. In the majority of the samples selenium was present in a molar surplus to mercury. This was most clear in molluscs, crustaceans, fish and seabirds. A 1:1 molar ratio was found in tissues of marine mammals with high mercury concentrations (above approx. 10 nmol/g). This was most clearly demonstrated for liver and kidney tissue of polar bear and for ringed seal with high mercury concentration in the liver. These findings support previous results found in liver tissue of marine mammals, suggesting that methyl mercury is detoxified by a chemical mechanism involving selenium. If the anthropogenic release of mercury to the environment increases in the future due to increasing energy demands, species such as polar bears and seals with high tissue mercury concentrations should be monitored to elucidate whether this protective mechanism can be maintained in target organs.  相似文献

A process combining pilot-scale two-phase anaerobic digestion and shortcut biological nitrogen removal (SBNR) was developed to treat organics and nutrients (nitrogen and phosphorus) from food wastewater. The thermophilic two-phase anaerobic digestion process was investigated without adjusting the pH of the wastewater for the pre-acidification process. The digested food wastewater was treated using the SBNR process without supplemental carbon sources or alkalinity. Under these circumstances, the combined system was able to remove about 99% of COD, 88% of TN, and 97% of TP. However, considerable amounts of nutrients were removed due to chemical precipitation processes between the anaerobic digestion and SBNR. The average TN removal efficiency of the SBNR process was about 74% at very low C/N (TCOD/TN) ratio of 2. The SBNR process removed about 39% of TP from the digested food wastewater. Conclusively, application of the combined system improved organic removal efficiency while producing valuable energy (biogas), removed nitrogen at a low C/N ratio, and conserved additional resources (carbon and alkalinity).  相似文献

Within an Austrian spruce stand, vertical distribution of radiocaesium in soil as well as 137Cs concentration in different forest ecosystem compartments including spruce and surface water were investigated 10 years after the Chernobyl accident. The total 137Cs inventory in the forest was estimated to be 46 kBq m-2 (ref. date: 86-05-01). From the collected data annual input rates via litterfall of 0.48% per year and output rates through waterflows of only 0.02% per year were derived. The results identify the high importance of forest soils as a sink for radiocaesium. The estimated ecological residence half-times turned out to be highest in the organic soil horizons (1-3 years per cm), whereas in mineral horizons the values decrease significantly. As a consequence, soil inventory represents more than 95% of the total, whereas only approximately 3.3% of the 137Cs inventory is stored in the living biomass of spruce trees and a further 0.5% in the phytomass of understorey vegetation.  相似文献

The degradation of PbEDTA in aqueous solution by a H(2)O(2)/UV process was studied. The effect of H(2)O(2) content, pH of the solution and the presence of nitrate were investigated. PbEDTA degradation by a H(2)O(2)/UV process was shown to be accompanied by simultaneous lead precipitation. PbEDTA was decomposed rapidly in acidic solutions while lead precipitation was achieved only when the pH of the solution was higher than 6. The presence of nitrate in significant amounts (0.04 M) inhibited remarkably the degradation of the complex and metal precipitation. The degradation of CdEDTA and ZnEDTA was also studied. It was found that the decomposition of metal-EDTA complex and metal removal by the H(2)O(2)/UV process depend greatly on the nature of the metal. CdEDTA and ZnEDTA were decomposed rapidly but metal precipitation was not achieved. The major by-products of the degradation of metal-EDTA complexes observed were nitrilotriacetic acid (NTA), iminodiacetic acid (IDA), oxalic acid and nitrate.  相似文献

Laboratory experiments on DGM production under light/dark cycles in a culture of the marine diatom Chaetoceros sp. spiked with 200 ng l(-1) of mercury have been performed. DGM formation has been investigated also in the cell exudates, obtained by filtration of the cell culture. Results show that the cell culture and the filtrate give the same value of DGM production (2.24+/-0.88 pg min(-1) l(-1) and 2.23+/-0.02 pg min(-1) l(-1), respectively) in the light (40 W m(-2)), values much higher than to those obtained in the medium culture alone. A significant DGM production has been measured in dark conditions both in the cell culture (0.48+/-0.11 pg min(-1) l(-1)) and in the filtrate (0.85+/-0.10 pg min(-1) l(-1)). The results highlight that the organic compounds released by the cell in the culture medium play a fundamental role in the DGM photo-formation processes.  相似文献

对一些平面内楔形截面构件进行二阶简单塑性铰法分析,并利用有限元法及重叠原理推导I形钢楔形截面构件的刚度矩阵。为预测构件内部可能形成塑性铰的位置,以一个同时受弯矩及轴力作用的梁柱单元,仿真各种不同边界条件的楔形截面构件。若预测构件内会形成塑性铰的位置则要增设一个节点,将一个构件分割为两个单元,以获得最合理的荷载-挠度曲线。楔形截面构件的刚度矩阵应特别注意方向性的问题。若没有考虑到任一构件中可能形成塑性铰的位置,就不能准确地预测梁柱真实的极限承载能力。若仅用一个单元代表一个楔形截面构件就会高估极限承载能力。该方法可合理地应用于具有楔形截面构件框架的塑性分析。  相似文献
