In this study the osteoconductive properties of strontium based ionomeric cements (ICs) named, LG125 and LG119, as well as zinc-based ICs, designated by LG130 and LG132, were compared. Wet ICs were surgically implanted into the femora of weaned Wistar rats for 4 weeks. To assess the percentage osseointegration the perimeter of the implant and the perimeter of bone in contact with the implant were measured using a pointer (the length of bone/implant interfacial contact). Osteoconduction was determined by taking six points at random around the perimeter of each ionomeric rod measuring the thickness of newly formed bone. The degree of osteoconduction was taken as the average thickness of new bone produced on the implant surface. It was found that osteoconduction was greatest in the strontium based IC implant LG125. From these studies it can be concluded that the composition LG125 might provide a useful purpose as a bone cement.  相似文献

The authors analyzed the mechanical behavior of the calf pericardium employed in the construction of valve leaflets for cardiac bioprostheses. Forty samples of pericardium were subjected to uniaxial tensile testing, 20 as controls and 20 exposed to loads increasing stepwise until rupture, with a return to zero load between each new increment. Another 20 samples were used similarly in biaxial tensile tests involving loads increasing stepwise until rupture, again returning to zero load between steps. The ultimate stresses in the uniaxial study were very similar and were not influenced by the region of pericardial tissue being tested or the increments in load to which the tissue was exposed. The mean stresses at rupture in the stepwise biaxial assays were significantly greater (p<0.01). Using morphological and mechanical criteria for sample selection, it was possible to obtain mathematical fits for the stress/strain relationship in both types of assays, with excellent coefficients of determination (R 2>0.90). In uniaxial tests in which the selection criteria were not applied, the correlation improved as the load increased, a phenomenon that did not occur in the biaxial studies. The values varied throughout the different cycles, adopting exponential forms when the strain was greatest. These variations, which demonstrate that the increase in the energy consumed is a function of the stress applied and of the strain produced, should be good parameters for assessing the changes in the collagen fiber architecture of pericardial tissue subjected to cyclic stress, and may help to detect early failure.  相似文献

The analysis of alkylbenzothiophenes (alkyl-BT) and alkyl-dibenzothiophenes (alkyl-DBT) in light cycle oil (LCO) and straight run (SR) gas oils is described. A detailed identification and quantitative analysis of alkyl-BT and alkyl-DBT present in LCO gas oils was carried out using GC-SCD. For the SR gas oils, the simultaneous presence of thiophenic and nonthiophenic compounds does not allow for a selective analysis of thiophenic compounds by GC-SCD. A new method using gas chromatography coupled with high-resolution mass spectrometry (GC-HRMS) is proposed to selectively detect and quantify the alkyl-BT and alkyl-DBT in SR gas oils. The development of the method and comparison of results between GC-SCD and GC-HRMS are presented.  相似文献

The dense plasma focus (DPF) is a coaxial plasma gun in which a high-density, high-temperature plasma is obtained in a focused column for a few nanoseconds. When the filling gas is deuterium, neutrons can be obtained from fusion reactions. These are partially due to a beam of deuterons which are accelerated against the background hot plasma by large electric fields originating from plasma instabilities. Due to a beam-target effect, the angular distribution of the neutron emission is anisotropic, peaked in the forward direction along the axis of the gun. The purpose of this work is to illustrate the use of CR-39 nuclear track detectors as a diagnostic tool in the determination of the time-integrated neutron angular distribution. For the case studied in this work, neutron emission is found to have a 70% contribution from isotropic radiation and a 30% contribution from anisotropic radiation.  相似文献

There is little information concerning the use of rare earths as dopants of Al2O3. This paper presents the preparation method and the results of studying the thermoluminescence characteristics of Al2O3:Eu exposed to ultraviolet light. Phosphor powder was obtained by the evaporation method. Optimum dopant concentration was 10% at an evaporation temperature of 700 degrees C. The powder obtained was submitted to thermal treatments at high temperatures in order to stabilise the traps. Diffraction patterns showed amorphous powder up to 500 degrees C; as the temperature was raised crystalline phases of Al2O3 appeared. The photoluminescence spectrum induced by 250 nm UV light exhibited four well defined peaks characteristic of the Eu3+ ion. The glow curve exhibited two peaks at 180 and 350 degrees C. The sensitivity of Al2O3:Eu was 10 times lower than Al2O3:C. The thermoluminescence response was linear from 2.4 to 3000 microJ.cm(-2) of spectral irradiance, and the fading 2% in a month. From these results it can be concluded that Al2O3:Eu has potential as an UV dosemeter.  相似文献

A bibliographic search yielded a set of empirical equations that constitute an easy method for the calculation of some thermophysical properties of both liquid water and ice I, properties that are involved in the modeling of thermal processes in the high-pressure domain, as required in the design of new high-pressure food processes. These properties, closely interrelated in their physical derivation and experimental measurement, are specific volume, specific isobaric heat capacity, thermal expansion coefficient, and isothermal compressibility coefficient. Where no single equation was found, an alternative method for calculation is proposed. Keeping in mind the intended applications and considering the availability of both experimental data and empirical equations, the limits for the set of equations where set in -40 to 120 degrees C and 0 to 500 MPa for liquid water and -30 to 0 degrees C and 0 to 210 MPa for ice I. The equations and methods selected for each property are described and their results analyzed. Their good agreement with many existing experimental data is discussed. In addition, the routines implemented for the calculation of these properties after the described equations are made available in the public domain.  相似文献

We have used a subthreshold summation protocol to analyze spatial color-color interaction. By means of a CRT color monitor, we measured the threshold contours for a spatial frequency of 0.5 cycles/degree. Heterochromatic flicker photometry was used to obtain isoluminance. The results suggest that the blue-yellow (b-y) and red-green (r-g) contrast thresholds remained unchanged by the addition of fixed r-g and b-y subthreshold pedestals. Our subthreshold summation data then support the stochastic independence of colorvision mechanisms derived from Mullen and Sankeralli's work [Vision Res. 39, 733 (1999)] despite the differences that exist between the two experimental methods.  相似文献

Poor mechanical properties of biological tissue are known to cause wear, leading to the failure of cardiac bioprostheses made of calf pericardium. Different chemical agents such as sodium dodecyl sulfate (SDS) are presently being tested as possible inhibitors of the calcification process. The objective of this report was to determine the mechanical behavior of calf pericardium treated with SDS for 24 h and the influence of the suture on the mechanical properties of the tissue. Forty-eight samples were tested: 24 subjected to a standard treatment with glutaraldehyde (12 sewn with 4/0 silk suture thread) and 24 incubated with SDS for 24 h (12 sewn with the same suture thread). Each sutured and non-sutured sample was cut into two strips to yield paired samples. All were subjected to tensile stress to breaking point. The mean stress at breaking point in the non-sutured series treated with glutaraldehyde alone was 16.42 and 13.85 MPa depending on the region of the pericardium, while in the sutured samples subjected to glutaraldehyde the mean stress was 7.50 and 7.63 MPa, respectively, differences which were statistically significant (p = 0.03 and p = 0.003, respectively) when the means for non-sutured samples from equivalent regions treated with glutaraldehyde were compared. The stress at breaking point was lower in the SDS-treated series, ranging between 2.60 and 3.56 MPa. The mathematical functions that govern the stress/strain or deformation were obtained. In the series of pericardium treated with SDS, deformations of 10% were produced with stresses of under 0.4 MPa, an outcome that is intolerable from the constructive point of view. We established a regression model that enabled us to determine the mechanical behavior of a sutured sample by testing a contiguous piece of tissue, with a high correlation coefficient (r > 0.99). We consider this finding to be of interest in the selection of pericardium for use in the construction of leaflets for cardiac bioprostheses.  相似文献
