Old grades of creep resistant materials such as P11 and P22 have been studied in depth and data and prediction models are available for design and fitness for service assessment of creep rupture, creep crack growth, thermo-mechanical fatigue, etc. However, as the 9%Cr material is relatively new, there is relatively limited data available and understanding with respect to quantifying the effect of variables on life prediction of components fabricated from P91 is more difficult. Since grade P91 steel was introduced in the 1980s as enhanced ferritic steel, it has been used extensively in high temperature headers and steam piping systems in power generating plant. However, evidence from pre-mature weld failures in P91 steel suggests that design standards and guidelines may be non-conservative for P91 welded pressure vessels and piping. Incidences of cracking in P91 welds have been reported in times significantly less than 100,000 h leading to safety and reliability concerns worldwide. This paper provides a review and reanalysis of published information using properties quoted in codes of practice and from recent research data regarding the creep crack growth of P91 steel, and uses existing models to predict its behaviour. Particular areas where existing data are limited in the literature are highlighted. Creep crack growth life is predicted based on short-term uniaxial creep crack growth (CCG) data. Design and assessment challenges that remain in treating P91 weld failures are then addressed in light of the analysis. 相似文献

A phytogenic feed additive (PFA) formulation was prepared with bioactive molecules—curcuminoids, gingerol, and carvacrol by encapsulating in nanofiber isolated from turmeric spent (turmeric nanofiber, TNF). This formulation was completely characterized by scanning electron microscope, ultra performance liquid chromatography, and gas chromatography and evaluated for its efficacy. PFA-encapsulated TNF (PFA@TNF) considerably increased mean body weight, decreased cholesterol level, mortality rate, and reduced Escherichia coli content of broilers than antibiotic growth promoter (AGP). The present work has been conducted in order to develop a novel solution for the heat transfer problem during the continuous casting of steel billets and blooms, by using the element-free Galerkin method under a pseudo-transient moving cross-section slice approach. The transport laws, non-linear aspects and boundary conditions of the initial value problem have been specified. A detailed explanation concerning the characteristics inherent to the application of the element-free Galerkin method to this problem has also been provided. The feasibility and suitability of this novel approach has been verified by comparison with the numerical techniques proposed and the results reported by other researchers as well as an analytical solution of a simple 1-D alloy solidification problem. The results have revealed that this technique could be used successfully in the pseudo transient moving cross-section solution of the heat transfer problem involved in the continuous casting of blooms and square billets. 相似文献

A vertex model for the simulation of grain growth and grain boundary migration is developed and its implementation is explained in detail. The utilization of the model is also exemplified with different setups. In particular, the model was used to study the evolution of magnetically affected grain growth in samples with randomly oriented grains and the effect of the finite mobility of the boundary junctions on boundary migration. These examples emphasize the versatility of the model and illustrate its ample scope. The results of the simulations showed that a magnetic field can effectively affect the evolution of the grain growth kinetics and texture independently of the initial texture since the magnetic field will cause grains, with particular orientations, to have an advantage for their growth. As consequence, the sample will become strongly textured during grain growth. Theoretical considerations for the grain boundary migration with a finite mobility of the triple junctions were also reproduced and confirmed by means of computer simulation. Growth and characterization of l-phenylalanine nitric acid, a new organic nonlinear optical material
A new organic nonlinear optical material L-phenylalanine nitric acid [2C9H11NO2.H+. NO3−] (LPN), was synthesized in mixed solvent of deionised water and methanol and single crystals of LPN was grown by slow evaporation method. Transparent crystals upto 2.9 × 0.3 × 0.05 cm3 were obtained. The grown crystals have been subjected to powder X-ray diffraction studies to identify the crystalline nature. Single crystal X-ray diffractometer was utilized to measure unit cell parameters and to confirm the crystal structure. The modes of vibration of different molecular groups present in LPN were identified by FTIR spectral analysis. Transmission spectra reveals that the crystal has low UV cutoff of 295 nm and has a good transmittance in the entire visible region enabling its use in optical applications. Thermal properties of the crystals have been investigated using thermogravimetric (TG) and differential thermal analyses (DTA), which indicate that the material does not decompose before melting. The existence of second harmonic generation signals was observed using Nd:YAG laser with fundamental wavelength of 1064 nm. 相似文献

Contrary to conventional wisdom, more efficient use of energy may actually through rebound effects lead to greater instead of less total consumption of energy—or at least to no diminution of energy consumption. If so, energy efficiency strategies may serve goals of raising economic growth and affluence, but as an environmental or energy policy strategy could backfire, leading to more resource use in absolute terms rather than less. This, in turn, could in the long run hamper economic growth, for instance if resource scarcity crowds out technical change. The hypothesis that rebound is greater than unity (‘backfire’) predicts the observed real-world correlation between rising energy consumption and rising efficiency of energy services, however difficult it may be to define a precise holistic metric for the latter. The opposing hypothesis, i.e. that rebound is less than unity and that energy efficiency increases therefore result in less energy consumption than before, requires on the other hand strong forces that do account for the empirically observed economic growth. This paper summarises some of the discussions around the rebound effect, puts it into perspective to economic growth, and provides some insights at the end that can guide future empirical research on the rebound topic. 相似文献

Pt and Pd nanosheaths are successfully synthesized on multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) using the non-covalent poly(diallyldimethylammonium chloride) (PDDA) functionalization and seed-mediated growth methods. In this method, negatively charged Pt or Pd metal precursors are self-assembled with positively charged PDDA-functionalized MWCNTs, forming uniformly distributed Pt or Pd nanoseeds on MWCNTs supports. The contiguous and highly porous Pt and Pd nanosheath structured catalysts are then formed by the seed-mediated growth in corresponding metal precursors using ascorbic acid as the reducing agent. The essential role of uniformly dispersed Pt and Pd nanoseeds on PDDA-MWCNTs is demonstrated. The results indicate that both Pt and Pd nanosheaths show an enhanced catalytic activity for the methanol and formic acid oxidation reaction in acid solution, respectively, as compared with conventional Pt/C and Pd/C catalysts. The enhanced activities are most likely due to the reduced oxophilicity, which results in a weakened chemisorption energy with oxygen-containing species such as COad, and the increased reactive sites due to the large number of grain boundaries of the Pt and Pd nanosheath structured electrocatalysts. 相似文献

A model of the formation and evolution of a local plastic deformation zone at the crack tip is proposed based on the analysis
of the main physical processes taking place in a metallic material under the action of cyclic loads. An equation of fatigue
crack growth rate curves, which explicitly accounts for the loading frequency, was derived. The equation applies to the whole
range of crack lengths from short cracks to macroscopic ones.
