Microwave energy was applied to inactivate the oxydoreductases peroxidase (POD, EC 1.11.1.7) and polyphenol oxidase (PPO, EC 1.14.18.1) in processed fruit products. Microwave blanching of papaya, strawberry and kiwi purees at various conditions of power and time produced inactivation of PPO and POD activities depending on the fruit and the heating conditions. Treatment at 850 W/60 s produced about 60% of POD inactivation for papaya and kiwi fruit. POD activity in strawberry, however, seemed to be more resistant to microwave inactivation; treatment at 850 W/60 s only achieved a loss of POD activity near 8%. Papaya oxidoreductases showed lower stability in the microwave treatments tested. Microwave blanching at 475 W/45 s produced about 75% inactivation of POD activity and nearly complete PPO inactivation. Kiwi fruit and strawberry purees exhibited similar inactivation of PPO – 32% at 475 W/30 s and 70% at 475 W/60 s. The decrease of PPO activity in both products was almost linear at constant power. This thermal treatment, however, directly affects the colour of the fruit pulps. Papaya, kiwi and strawberry purees suffered slight colour (CIE L* a*b*) changes. Carotenoid, chlorophyll and anthocyanin changes were evaluated by HPLC and related to objective colour. Microwave treatments produced small modifications of the quantitative and qualitative composition of carotenoids (in papaya) and anthocyanins (in strawberry). The sedimentation behavior of rutile and selected organic pigments dispersed in polymer solutions has been interpreted in terms of acid-base interactions at the polymer/pigment interface. The acid-base information was obtained from inverse gas chromatography. Moderate strengths of acid-base interaction were beneficial to the stability of dispersions, whereas both the absence of and excessive interaction resulted in the rapid deposition of solids. The effect is associated with the orientation of adsorbed polymer molecules, which must provide an adequate steric (entropic) barrier for the aggregation and deposition of solids. Implicated is the balance of interaction forces at pigment/polymer and polymer/solvent contacts. Rheological data for the dispersions have been used to obtain a parameter related to the thickness of the adsorbed polymer layer, by way of amplifying on the state of the pigment/polymer interface. © 1998 John Wiley & Sons, Inc. ( - )-Epicatechin-3-O-gallate (ECG), one of the major green tea poly-phenols, was oxidised chemically using potassium ferricyanide. The major oxidation product, termed theaflavate A, which gave a sharp peak on HPLC analysis, was separated and purified by a combination of chromatography on Sephadex LH-20 and a semi-preparative HPLC method. This compound was characterised by NMR spectroscopy (1H, 13C, HMQC, HMBC and ROESY) and mass spectrometry (Electrospray method) and was found to have a novel benzotropolone skeleton formed between the B-ring of one ECG molecule and the galloyl ester group of another. Compounds containing this type of benzotropolone link were also found to be present in black tea. This benzotropolone link is of great interest, since it shows that the galloyl ester groups of flavan-3-ols participate in oxidative condensation reactions. This illustrates the complexity of theaflavin-type compounds in black tea and provides an additional reaction pathway for the formation of thearubigins which has not been previously considered. © 1997 SCI  相似文献

Authentication and verification of the most important government issued identity proof, i.e. passport has become more complex and challenging in the last few decades due to various innovations in ways of counterfeiting by fraudsters. Here, the aim is to provide more secured ink without altering its golden appearance in visible light. In this panorama, a novel advanced multi-functional luminescent security pigment (MLSP) based golden ink (MLSI) is developed that provides an optical authentication and information encryption features to protect the legitimacy of the passport. The advanced MLSP is derived from the ratiometric combination of different luminescent materials to form a single pigment which emits red (620 nm), green (523 nm) and blue (474 nm), when irradiated via 254, 365 and 980 nm NIR wavelengths, respectively. It also includes magnetic nanoparticles to generate magnetic character recognition feature. The MLSI has been fabricated to examine its printing feasibility and stability over different substrates using the conventional screen-printing technique against harsh chemicals and under different atmospheric conditions. Hence, these advantageous multi-level security features with golden appearance in visible light is a new breakthrough toward curbing the counterfeiting of passport as well as bank cheques, government documents, pharmaceuticals, military equipment, and many more.  相似文献

Novel stablized green Ni0.15MgxAl2(0.85-x)Ti1.15+xO5 (0 ≤ x ≤ 0.25) pigments were prepared by solid-state method using Ni2O3 as colorant and Mg(CH3COO)2‧4H2O as auxiliary stabilizer. The synthesised pigments were characterized via XRD, XPS, SEM, TEM, UV-Vis, and automatic colorimeters. The results show that Mg-doping increases the oxygen vacancies, resulting in a positive shift of the binding energy of Ni2+ irons. The formation of Ni0.15MgxAl2(0.85-x)Ti1.15+xO5 solid solution greatly increases the energy transfer energy and shifts the emission to lower wavelengths (530 nm), corresponding to the visible diffuse reflection of green light. The chromaticity of the pigment changed little (L*=72.51, a*=−18.16, b*=20.94) at 1200 ℃ for 10 h, showing excellent thermal stability. The properties especially excellent thermal stability makes it promising novel green pigments in ceramic industry application.  相似文献

Salinity is one of the major abiotic factors that limit the growth and productivity of plants. Foliar application of plant growth regulators (PGRs) may help plants ameliorate the negative impacts of salinity. Thus, a field experiment was conducted at the Botanical Garden University of Balochistan, Quetta, to explore the potential role of PGRs, i.e., moringa leaf extract (MLE; 10%), proline (PRO; 1 µM), salicylic acid (SA; 250 µM), and thiourea (TU; 10 mM) in ameliorating the impacts of salinity (120 mM) on Plantago ovata, an important medicinal plant. Salinity hampered plant photosynthetic pigments and metabolites but elevated oxidative parameters. However, foliar application of PGRs enhanced photosynthetic pigments, including Chl b (21.11%), carotenoids (57.87%) except Chl a, activated the defense mechanisms by restoring and enhancing the metabolites, i.e., soluble sugars (49.68%), soluble phenolics (33.34%), and proline (31.47%), significantly under salinity stress. Furthermore, foliar supplementation of PGRs under salt stress led to a decrease of about 43.02% and 43.27% in hydrogen peroxide and malondialdehyde content, respectively. Thus, PGRs can be recommended for improved photosynthetic efficiency and metabolite content that can help to get better yield under salt stress, with the best and most effective treatments being those of PRO and MLE to predominately ameliorate the harsh impacts of salinity.  相似文献

A renewable source of carbon black is introduced by the processing of lignin from agro-forestry residues. Lignin side streams are converted into spherical particles by direct aerosolization followed by carbonization. The obtained submicron black carbon is combined with cellulose nanofibers, which act as a binder and rheology modifier, resulting in a new type of colloidal bioink. The bioinks are tested in handwriting and direct ink writing. After consolidation, the black bioinks display total light reflectance (%R) at least three times lower than commercial black inks (reduction from 12 to 4%R). A loading of up to 20% of nanofibers positively affects the cohesion of the dried bioink (1 to 16 MPa), with no significant reduction in light reflectance. This is a result of the superstructuring of the ink components, which disrupts particle packing, intensifies colloidal interactions, introduces light absorption, and non-reflective multiple scattering.  相似文献

In this work, a fast method was proposed for estimating the virgin olive oils (VOOs) carotenoids and chlorophylls concentration using color measurement. The pigment content by conventional spectrophotometry method and CIELAB color (L*, a*, and b*) at different degree of sample thickness (from 5 to 50 mm) of one hundred VOOs were measured. Oil carotenoids and chlorophylls content were correlated with the color parameters for the different oil thickness studied to design the prediction models of the new method. The best regression coefficients (R2) were obtained for multiple linear regression model using the three independent variables (L*, a*, and b*) together measured at 5 mm of oil thickness. The R2 were 0.9679, 0.9515, and 0.9644 for predicting carotenoids, chlorophylls, and total pigments, respectively. External validation of these prediction models was satisfactory (relative error < 0.1). Therefore, this new solvent-free colorimetric method is a useful method for determination of carotenoids and chlorophylls content in VOOs. Practical applications: The simple colorimetric method developed in this study offers a fast and accurate alternative to current methods published in the literature to estimate the pigment content in VOOs. It is a rapid (less than 1 min) and cheap method, with the advantage of ease of operation, no sample pretreatment and solvent-free, thus environmentally friendly. This methodology can potentially be used by trained “nonprofessional analytical skilled” people in small laboratories or olive oil mills with limited technical facilities. Therefore, the technique is highly plausible as an alternative to determine the pigment content in VOOs. Finally, future works with this methodology could be carried out to online control of VOOs pigments content in the oil extraction process.  相似文献

Creation of color through photonic morphologies manufactured by molecular self-assembly is a promising approach, but the complexity and lack of robustness of the fabrication processes have limited their technical exploitation. Here, it is shown that photonic spheres with full-color tuning across the entire visible spectrum can be readily and reliably achieved by the emulsification of solutions containing a block copolymer (BCP) and two swelling additives. Solvent diffusion out of the emulsion droplets gives rise to 20–150 µm-sized spheres with an onion-like lamellar morphology. Controlling the lamellar thickness by differential swelling with the two additives enables color tuning of the Bragg interference-based reflection band across the entire visible spectrum. By studying five different systems, a set of important principles for manufacturing photonic colloids is established. Two swelling additives are required, one of which must exhibit strong interactions with one of the BCP blocks. The additives should be chosen to enhance the dielectric contrast, and the formation kinetics of the spheres must be sufficiently slow to enable the emergence of the photonic morphology. The proposed approach is versatile and robust and allows the scalable production of photonic pigments with possible future applications in inks for cosmetics and arts, coatings, and displays.  相似文献
