The wetting of 3% yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) by Sn–8Zr, Sn–4Zr–4Ti, and Sn–8Ti alloys was studied at 800–900 °C. Both Zr and Ti improve the wettability via the formation of reaction products and adsorption. In the systems containing Zr additives in the alloys, ZrO2-x precipitates preferentially, and the wettability is dominated by interface adsorption. An anomalous temperature dependence was found in the final wettability of these systems owing to the decrease in adsorption with an increase in the temperature. The spreading dynamics are controlled by the dissolution of Zr, followed by the formation of a wetting ridge. The wettability of the Sn–8Ti/YSZ system is dominated by the precipitation of reaction products (Ti2O3 and Ti11.31Sn3O10). The reaction kinetics is the limiting factor for spreading in Sn–8Ti/YSZ, and the adsorption at the interface significantly decreased the energy barrier for wetting.  相似文献

Droplet impingement of urea water solution (UWS) is a common source for liquid film and solid deposits formed in the tailpipe of diesel engines. In order to better understand and predict wetting phenomena on the tailpipe wall, this study focuses on droplet spreading dynamics of urea water solution. Impingement of single droplets is investigated under defined conditions by high‐speed imaging using shadowgraphy technique. The experimental studies are complemented by numerical simulations with a phase‐field method. Computational results are in good agreement with experimental data for the advancing phase of spreading and the maximum and terminal spreading radius, whereas for the receding phase notable differences occur. For the maximum spreading radius, an empirical correlation derived for glycerol‐water‐ethanol mixtures is found to be valid for millimeter‐sized UWS droplets as well. A numerical simulation for a much smaller droplet however indicates that this correlation is not valid for the tiny droplets of UWS sprays in technical applications.  相似文献

Indoor airflow pattern is strongly influenced by turbulent shear and turbulent normal stresses that are responsible for entrainment effects and turbulence‐driven secondary motion. Therefore, an accurate prediction of room airflows requires reliable modeling of these turbulent quantities. The most widely used turbulence models include RANS‐based models that provide quick solutions but are known to fail in turbulent free shear and wall‐affected flows. In order to cope with this deficiency, this study presents a nonlinear k‐ε turbulence model and evaluates it along with linear k‐ε models for an indoor isothermal linear diffuser jet flow measured in two model rooms using PIV. The results show that the flow contains a free jet near the inlet region and a wall‐affected region downstream where the jet is pushed toward the ceiling by entrainment through the well‐known Coanda effect. The CFD results show that an accurate prediction of the entrainment process is very important and that the nonlinear eddy viscosity model is able to predict the turbulence‐driven secondary motions. Furthermore, turbulence models that are calibrated for high Reynolds free shear layer flows were not able to reproduce the measured velocity distributions, and it is suggested that the model constants of turbulence models should be adjusted before they are used for room airflow simulations.  相似文献

A class of firefighting foams, known as aqueous film‐forming foam (AFFF), has the ability to form a film by spreading on the free surface of some hydrocarbon fuels. To find out whether this film could reduce the evaporation losses of volatile hydrocarbons, the evaporation rates of fuels covered with a film of AFFF were measured by weighing the fuel at different time intervals. The results proved that the addition of aqueous surfactant solutions on the fuels is not always synonymous to the reduction of evaporation rates, but sometimes it might also cause an increase. However, it was found that polyethylene glycol could modify AFFF in a way that it can form a protective permanent film on the surface of a fuel such as kerosene, thereby leading to a reduction of evaporation losses.  相似文献

CuSn powders and TiH2 powders were milled using high energy mechanical milling to prepare Cu-based alloy powders for brazing diamond. And Ce was added to the milled Cu-based alloy powders to improve the wettability. It is found that the wetting angle reaches the minimum value 13.2° and the maximum spreading area 178 mm2 is achieved when the amount of Ce is 0.75 wt%. And Ce remarkably reduces the surface tension of liquid alloy, which improves the climbing height along the diamond and forms a massive support profile. And the results show that Ce can effectively improve the transverse rupture strength (TRS) due to high wettability. The wear characteristics of the diamonds brazed with Cu-based alloy containing 0.75 wt% Ce mainly consist of integrity, micro-fracture, fracture and rubdown, diamonds pull-out can not easily happen.  相似文献

The thermodynamic energies associated with conventional wetting, spreading, adhesion, cohesion, and disjoining pressure, as defined in classical equations, are re-examined for their significance in a force field. They are then converted into dimensionless form such that the equilibrium properties of both wetting and spreading all fall on the same line when the dimcnsionless spreading coefficient is plotted as a function of the dimensionless work of adhesion. The effects of a force field such as gravity are examined and it is further shown that spreading is always thickness-dependent, whether in a force field or in a gravity-free field. Non-equilibrium processes such as autophobicity are shown on the same dimensionless plot and indicate clearly that the speed with which the process approaches equilibrium depends on the difference between the initial and equilibrium spreading coefficients. All these processes are expressed in terms of a dimensionless group Pn, the reduced wetting energy, which, when lying between the values of + 1 and -1, equals the cosine of the contact angle, . The implication of this approach to non-equilibrium processes is discussed.  相似文献
