The failure of the conductor of the 460 kV overhead transmission line located along the crossing of the Paraná River was investigated. As a result of this failure, a blackout took place in the southern states of Brazil in January of 2002, reaching approximately 67 million inhabitants. Investigation of the external aluminium layer of the ACSR conductor near the fracture showed typical static deformation marks and dynamic fretting wear tangential marks, both associated with the presence of Al2O3 debris. Additionally, encrusted silicon particles were observed on the external surface of the strands. The internal Al layer showed elliptical deformation marks also associated with Al2O3 debris. Both Al2O3 and Si particles are efficient abrasive material, which associated with slight relative motion of metallic surfaces (clamp/strand and strand/strand) can promote fretting wear. Two types of fracture surface of the Al strands were identified: 45° and quasi-normal surfaces, the former being the predominant type. Delamination and particle detachment were the mechanisms of superficial degradation observed on the Al strands, indicating that the rupture of the strands occurred under a gross slip fretting regime induced by sub-conductor oscillation. Inspection of the internal surface of as-cast Al–10%Si spacer clamps revealed different stages of intense circumferential wear caused by the preferential cracking and particle detachment of the eutectic constituent of the as-cast microstructure. This intense wear reduces the clamping contact pressure, which allows higher displacement amplitude and leads to the critical fretting regime. Finally, a few suggestions are discussed to minimise the occurrence of future failures.  相似文献

To gain a better understanding of the ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) wear mechanism in the physiological environment, the effects of protein and lipid constituents of synovial fluid on the specific wear rate of UHMWPE were examined experimentally. The multidirectional sliding pin-on-plate wear tester was employed to simulate the simplified sliding condition of hip joint prostheses. Bovine serum γ-globulin and synthetic l--DPPC were used as model protein and lipid constituents of synovia, respectively. Results of the wear test indicated that the UHMWPE wear rate primarily depended on the protein concentration of the test lubricant. Lipids acted as a boundary lubricant and reduced polyethylene wear in the low protein lubricants. However, the polyethylene wear rate increased with increasing lipid concentrations if the protein concentration was within the physiological level. Increased interactions between protein and lipid molecules and lipid diffusion to polyethylene surface might be responsible for the increased wear.  相似文献

The infiltration of compacted cubic BN (cBN) with molten aluminum has been investigated as a potential route for a cheap and easy method of manufacturing cBN/metal composites. CBN compacts have been infiltrated with molten Al at a temperature between 670 and 800 °C and pressure of 15 MPa in vacuum. At these temperatures no pronounced interactions between hexagonal and cubic BN with Al was observed, allowing the complete infiltration of cBN with 12 μm mean grain size. After infiltration at 800 °C, the temperature was increased without pressure to convert aluminum into borides and AlN. The hardness of the resulting materials depends on the content of hexagonal, cubic BN and the rate of conversion of Al into borides and AlN. The infiltration height of less than 1 mm obtained from infiltrating the 3 μm cBN powder green compacts gave a hardness of 22.0 ± 0.6 GPa after heat treatment.  相似文献

In wintertime, the use of studded tyres is common in the Nordic countries, steeply in creasing road wear. Apart from reducing surface quality and durability, the airborne dust presents a potential health hazard. To reduce road wear and dust release, there is a tendency to use harder and more wear-resistant aggregate materials.On the roads in and around Trondheim, mid-Norway, three types of aggregate material are common: greenstone, jasper and ‘mylonite’, in fact a cataclasite. Extensive laboratory testing suggests that cataclasite aggregate has better wear resistance than greenstone, but less than jasper [Erichsen E, Schiellerup H, Gautneb, H, Ottesen RT, Broekmans M. Road dust in Trondheim — analysis of the mineral content of airborne dust. (In Norwegian.) Geological Survey of Norway, NGU-report 2004. 037; 2004. p. 73]. However , observations on fluorescence-impregnated plane and thin sections demonstrate that in practice, cataclasite wears faster than greenstone, which may be attributed to its oriented fabric, as opposed to the random fabric in greenstone and jasper. One major bottleneck in the automation of the drilling process by robots in the aerospace industry is drill condition monitoring. This paper describes a system approach to solve this problem through the advancement of new machine design, sensor instrumentation, metal-cutting research, and intelligent software development. All drill failures can be detected and distinguished: chisel edge wear, flank wear, crater wear, margin wear, corner wear, breakage, asymmetry, lip height difference, and chipping at lips. However, in the real manufacturing environment, different workpiece materials, drill size, drill geometry, drill material, cutting speed, feed rate, etc. will change the criteria for judging the drill condition. The knowledge base used for diagnosing the drill failures requires a huge data bank and prior exhaustive testing. A self-learning scheme is therefore introduced to the machine in order to acquire the threshold history needed for automatic diagnosis by using the same new tool under the same drilling conditions.  相似文献

MoSx coatings were prepared by bipolar-pulse DC unbalanced magnetron-sputtering system with the variation of coating thickness at different Ar pressures.The composition and surface morphology were determined by using energy dispersive X-ray and scanning electron microscopy;the structural characterization was analyzed by X-ray diffraction.The friction and wear properties were investigated by fretting tests in air with less than 10% and 50% relative humidity.At 0.40 Pa pressure,(002) basal plane orientation was formed throughout the coatings.At 0.88 Pa and 1.60 Pa pressures,(002) basal plane orientation was only noticed in the first stage of coating growth(around 0.20 μm in thickness), and then edge orientations with their basal planes perpendicular to the surface would be evolved in the coatings.Humidity has a minor influence on the coatings that have(002) basal plane orientation,whereas the tribological properties of MoSx coatings with edge orientations are greatly affected by humidity.The mechanisms of coating growth and friction and wear processes are discussed.  相似文献

The wide scattering in tool life of natural mono-crystalline diamond tools is considered to depend on intrinsic crystalline defects due to nitrogen impurities in raw diamond. In this paper, the correlation was investigated between the amounts and types of the impurity evaluated by infrared absorption (IRA) and the crater wear and chipping resistances. As a result, diamonds including less total amount of impurity show larger wear resistance and that with larger amount of B2-aggregates show larger chipping resistance. This suggests that the inspection by IRA can be a useful method for screening of raw diamond for highly durable cutting tools.  相似文献

Carbon-based nanoparticles synthesized by heat treatment of nanodiamond in the temperature range of 1000–1900 °C were added to PTFE film to investigate the structural effect of the carbon particles on the tribological properties of PTFE composite film. Carbon-based nanoparticles were prepared by milling with micron sized beads in chemically treated water before their addition to PTFE film. The wear and frictional properties of PTFE nanocomposite film were measured by the ball on plate type wear test. The wear resistance of PTFE film was found to be enhanced by the addition of 2 wt% of carbon nanoparticles. The wear coefficient of PTFE film was decreased from 16.2 to 3.5 × 10−6 mm3/N m by the addition of carbon-based nanoparticles heat-treated at 1000 °C. Increasing the heating temperature of the nanodiamonds caused the extent of aggregation and particle size to increase. The wear resistance of PTFE nanocomposite film was enhanced by the addition of nanodiamonds heat-treated at 1000 °C, but decreased when the heat treatment temperature of carbon nanoparticles was further increased. Tribological behavior of PTFE nanocomposite films depending on the types of carbon nanoparticles were explained based on the structural, physical and chemical modification of carbon nanoparticles.  相似文献
