From the inception of commercialization of biodiesel, feedstock scarcity is a major issue to be pondered upon in developing countries. In this study, an attempt has been made to use an abundantly available underutilized high oil content (67% of Nahar seed kernel) feedstock derived biodiesel in a compression ignition engine. The experimental investigation on diesel engine reveals slightly reduced brake thermal efficiency and excellent exhaust emissions up to 40% blending of Nahar biodiesel with conventional diesel fuel. At full load, compared to diesel fuel, the BTE dropped by 1.64% and 1.83%, whereas the BSFC increased by 5.07% and 6.76% for B30 and B40 blends, respectively. The tested emission parameters such as CO, HC, NOx, and smoke were decreased by 12.66%, 17.99%, 8.31%, and 10.61% for B30 and 4.87%, 12.76%, 7.98%, and 11.78% for B40, respectively, compared to diesel fuel.

Perdeuterated pyridinium chloride-DMSO-d6 is an effective solvent system for whole cell biomass dissolution and NMR characterization. Employing this solvent system, semi-quantitative 13C-1H heteronuclear single quantum correlation (HSQC) spectroscopy of untreated, steam, dilute acid and lime pretreated poplar biomass samples was readily accomplished. In an effort to demonstrate the efficacy and usefulness of this fairly new characterization technique, relative spectral intensities of the untreated and pretreated biomass samples were evaluated and compared. From the relative signal intensities of hemicelluloses in each system it was observed that hemicelluloses are being removed in various pretreatment conditions, but complete dissolution of hemicellulose was observed only with acid pretreatment. The relative changes in lignin subunits after pretreatment were estimated from the volume integration of resolved cross peaks of various lignin subunits. The degradation of lignin was observed in all pretreatments, though more significant changes were noticed after dilute acid and lime pretreatment. HSQC analysis results were in agreement with the composition analysis of pretreated biomass samples. Thus, this methodology broadens the application of whole cell NMR analysis in biofuel research. 相似文献

Composite films of Ta-Si oxide and graded-index-like films have been realized by using radio-frequency ion-beam sputtering. The influence of thermal annealing on the optical properties and residual stress of single-layer composite films and graded-index-like films has been studied. The residual stress and optical properties of both types of films were more stable than that of the notch filters fabricated from a series of discrete quarter-wave layers made by alternatively stacking high and low index materials after annealing. 相似文献

This study elucidates the effects of columnar angles and deposition angles on the thermal expansion coefficients and intrinsic stress behaviors of MgF2 films with columnar microstructures. The behaviors associated with temperature-dependent stresses in the MgF2 films are measured using a phase-shifting Twyman-Green interferometer with a heating stage and the application of a phase reduction algorithm. The thermal expansion coefficients of MgF2 films at various columnar angles were larger than those of glass substrates. The intrinsic stress in the MgF2 films with columnar microstructures was compressive, while the thermal stress was tensile. The thermal expansion coefficients of MgF2 films with columnar microstructures and their intrinsic stress evidently depended on the deposition angle and the columnar angle. 相似文献

Both three-layer (TiO(2)-Ag-TiO(2)) and five-layer (TiO(2)-Ag-TiO(2)-Ag-TiO(2)) heat mirrors with optimum transmission in the visible and good reflectance in the IR have been designed by admittance diagram techniques. The mirrors were fabricated successfully by optical monitoring. An interesting anomalous layer was found and explained, and its equivalent refractive index and thickness are 2.015 - i0.016 and 2.56 nm, respectively. 相似文献

In this paper, we consider the two-machine open-shop scheduling problem with rejection. The objective is to minimize the sum of the makespan of accepted jobs and the total rejection cost of rejected jobs. We show that the problem is NP-hard even in three special cases and then provide a pseudo-polynomial time algorithm for this problem, which means that the problem is actually NP-hard in the ordinary sense. This answers an open problem posed by Shabtay et al. in (J Schedul 16:3–28, 2013). Finally, a 2-approximation algorithm and an FPTAS are designed for the problem. 相似文献

Studies on the evaporation phenomenon of a pure ethanol droplet have been mostly confined to the semianalytical modeling in stagnant ambient. Investigation into this aspect in a convective environment by considering the Navier–Stokes equation is also minimal. Hence, in this study we analyze and investigate the evaporation characteristics of a single-component spherical-shaped isolated pure ethanol droplet under force convective air environment by considering both gas- and liquid-phase motions, nonunitary Lewis number in the interface, variable Stefan flow (blowing) effect, and the transient droplet heating. The finite difference method is utilized while solving the governing equations of the spherical polar coordinate system for species, momentum, and energy transfer. The maximum Reynolds number and ambient temperature are kept at 100 and 600 K, respectively. The present work is validated by comparing the normalized surface regression curve of the droplet with the earlier experimental and theoretical results. Using the current simulated data, flow and temperature profiles of both gas and liquid regions are visualized in streamline and isotherm contour plots at various instants of time. It is observed that at a moderate Reynolds number a detached vortex forms at the downstream location of the droplet. However, the detachment length increases with time. The temperature gradients along the droplet surface are observed at the initial stage. Moreover, the heat-up period occupies about 20% of the total lifetime of the droplet. The droplet life and heat-up period decrease with an increase in free-stream velocity. In addition, the saturation temperature increases with ambient temperature. 相似文献
