Meal patterns of weaned dairy calves are affected by previous dietary experience and associated with competition surrounding individual feed bins

The objective of this study was to evaluate how meal patterns of recently weaned and group-housed dairy calves are subject to effects of previous dietary experience and associated with competition for feed. During the preweaning period, Holstein heifer and bull calves were provided diets differing in provision and presentation of forage as follows: (1) pelleted starter only (n = 12), (2) starter and chopped coastal bermudagrass provided in separate buckets (n = 13), (3) starter and chopped coastal bermudagrass mixed together in the same bucket (n = 15), or (4) starter, chopped coastal bermudagrass, and liquid molasses mixed together in 1 bucket (n = 13). At 58 ± 2 (mean ± standard deviation) days of age, following weaning, calves were mingled between treatments and moved into group housing in weekly age-based cohorts (7 ± 2 calves/group; 8 groups total), and all were provided the mixed diet (without molasses). Within group pens, calves were fed individually using the Calan Broadbent feeding system (American Calan Inc.). Calves were monitored for 1 wk following introduction to the group pen. Feed intake was measured daily. Behavioral data, describing feeding times and competition for feed, were recorded continuously for 48 h beginning after a 5-d adaptation to the group pen. Calves previously provided starter only had longer, less frequent meals than calves previously provided forage in any form, and they tended to consume less feed compared with those previously provided starter and hay separately, with calves previously provided mixed diets having intermediate intakes. We observed occurrences of displacements at bins, which were followed by replacements and feed stealing on some occasions, where 34% of calves consumed feed from a bin assigned to another calf on at least 1 occurrence, and 64% of calves were stolen from at least once. Competition at feed bins was not affected by previous dietary treatments, but was associated with meal patterns. Actor displacement rate was negatively associated with meal frequency and duration, but calves that were displaced more often were those that spent more time feeding. These results suggested a possible carryover effect of previous exposure to forage on postweaning meal patterns following a dietary change. Further, we found that competitive behavior varied considerably between individuals, occurring frequently despite feeding calves using individually-assigned feeding bins, and was associated with meal characteristics. These results highlighted the importance of considering both previous dietary experience and social factors when evaluating feeding behavior.

煤磨热风管道改造的效果

中联万基水泥有限公司4500t/d熟料生产线采用SCLW4-12×13.4第四代篦冷机,煤磨热风取风口和余热发电AQC热风取风口在篦冷机同一对称位置,煤磨与余热发电系统存在争风现象,开停煤磨对余热发电系统影响较大。通过从废气管道处开孔,加装管道和电动阀,与热风管道汇合通往煤磨沉降室,调整相应阀门开度,可以控制入煤磨烟气温度,这样不但提高了余热发电量,而且提高了煤磨产量,同时也降低了窑头排风机的负荷,降低了熟料生产电耗。     

基于学科竞赛的中医药类院校程序设计课程教学模式的探索

高素质人才培养是我国可持续发展战略、科教兴国战略以及人才强国战略等多项发展战略的一项基础性工程。本文针对中医药类院校程序设计类课程实践教学模式单一等教学实际，以“学科竞赛”为平台，“赛教结合”为理念，以《C语言程序设计》为例，从现存问题、赛教结合模式的引入、建立实施及其评价机制4个方面展开阐述，旨在提高学生学习积极性和能力。     

Nash equilibrium cooperative transmission strategy considering competition

In cooperative communications, employing the idle relay node for forwarding data can effectively improve the transmission rate and performance of the wireless networks. Therefore, various relay node selection algorithms are proposed. However, most of the existing algorithms just focus on the benefit caused by relay nodes, while ignoring the negative effect of the backoff duration time which does not exist in direct transmission, when more than one flow compete for the same relay node. To this end, considering both advantage and adverse impact caused by the relay node, we adopt the game-theoretic approach and propose a cooperative transmission strategy based on the Nash equilibrium, named the Nash Equilibrium Cooperative Transmission Strategy (NECTS). The NECTS can not only guarantee the gain of each flow, but also maximize the system performance, and improve the system throughput effectively. Simulation results show that the NECTS can take the advantage of cooperative communications. Meanwhile, it can avoid the unnecessary competition, and its performance outperforms that of the existing methods.     

Sperm metabolism is altered during storage by female insects: evidence from two-photon autofluorescence lifetime measurements in bedbugs

We explore the possibility of characterizing sperm cells without the need to stain them using spectral and fluorescence lifetime analyses after multi-photon excitation in an insect model. The autofluorescence emission spectrum of sperm of the common bedbug, Cimex lectularius, was consistent with the presence of flavins and NAD(P)H. The mean fluorescence lifetimes showed smaller variation in sperm extracted from the male (tau m, τ_m = 1.54–1.84 ns) than in that extracted from the female sperm storage organ (tau m, τ_m = 1.26–2.00 ns). The fluorescence lifetime histograms revealed four peaks. These peaks (0.18, 0.92, 2.50 and 3.80 ns) suggest the presence of NAD(P)H and flavins and show that sperm metabolism can be characterized using fluorescence lifetime imaging. The difference in fluorescence lifetime variation between the sexes is consistent with the notion that female animals alter the metabolism of sperm cells during storage. It is not consistent, however, with the idea that sperm metabolism represents a sexually selected character that provides females with information about the male genotype.     

基于LBT-SA的LoRaWAN信道接入方法研究

标准LoRaWAN协议中定义的纯ALOHA信道接入方法在网络负载较大时会造成大量碰撞，使LoRa网络的可扩展性和可靠性受到极大挑战。为此提出了一种将先听后说与模拟退火相结合（Listen Before Talk combined with Simulated Annealing，LBT-SA）的LoRa信道接入方法。该方法通过在设备发送之前先监听信道，降低信道被同时接入的概率，并以成功传输所需退避时间为初始值，搜索更小的退避时间。仿真结果表明，LBT-SA和基于二元指数退避算法的先听后说（Listen Before Talk，LBT）方法在包成功传输率方面保持了高度的一致，并且LBT-SA在周期传输过程中逐渐减少了不必要的退避时间，从而减少了时延。在多达10 000个终端接入单个网关的场景中，该算法的平均退避时间至少降低了16.38%。     

Celebrating ten years of KRYPTOS: a series of cryptanalysis

The KRYPTOS competition is an annual codebreaking competition for undergraduates. Debuting in 2011 with 49 participants from three states, after nine years we have seen over 1,000 students from 32 states and seven different countries. KRYPTOS will hold its tenth competition in April of 2020. Here we present some of the puzzles participants have found most elusive and challenge you to beat the clock on our fastest solver.     

新版学科目录“设计”类学科迎来重大结构性调整的几点解读

持续近两年时间的新一轮学科专业目录修订工作即将迎来正式公布，新版学科专业目录将在尊重人才培养规律和学科发展趋势的基础上，遵照稳中求进的总基调，在对“设计学”学术型专业归类调整的同时，稳步推进博士、硕士研究生专业学位类别的增设，以提高学科门类的实践性与综合性的融合度。据此，针对新版学科专业目录“设计”类学科进行解读，从其学科重大结构性调整来看，实现了具有关联性学科的重新归类，以及新兴应用型门类专业点的增设，既配合了“设计”类学科重视基础、拓展前沿的发展趋势，以及创意与技能并举的人才培养新需求，又考虑到我国教育统计的历史分类与未来社会发展领域的需要。相比较来说，“设计”类学科是此次新版学科专业目录中“艺术”类学科调整获益最大的学科。简言之，可以归纳为一个归类、两个增设的调整，即有关原“设计学”一级学科(1305)在新版学科专业目录中分别被调整归类到“艺术学”(1301)之中，延续原学科的历史、理论研究方向；并增设两个“设计”类学科点，一个是专业学位点(1357设计)，含新增专业博士和硕士学位点；另一个是交叉学科的“设计学”学科点(1403)，可授予工学、艺术学位。实事求是说，此次新学科目录的颁布将完善放管结合的学科专业目录运行机制，进一步增强高校学科专业设置自主权，推动学科专业目录向指导性、统计性和应用性转变。
