This study describes the fabrication of ultrafast laser-induced periodic nanostructures on Nickel sheets and their use as cathodes in alkaline electrolysis. For the first time, to the best of our knowledge, laser-nanostructured Ni sheets were used as cathode electrodes in a custom-made electrolysis cell at actual, Hydrogen producing conditions, and their efficiency has been compared to the untreated Nickel sheets. The electrochemical evaluation showed higher Jpeaks, lower overpotential, and enhanced double-layer capacitance for the nanostructured electrode. A decrease in the Tafel slope was also found for the nanostructured electrode. The hydrogen production efficiency was found to be 3.7 times larger for the laser-nanostructured Nickel electrode, which was also confirmed by current-time measurements during electrolysis. Also, a novel approach is proposed to improve the stability of the current density during electrolysis and, therefore, the hydrogen production process by about 10%.  相似文献

Cyclic tension and bend tests were performed on heat-resistant 12Cr1MoV steel specimens in as-supplied condition as well as after Zr+ ion beam surface irradiation. Distinct differences in strain induced relief, as well in cracking pattern of modified surface layer were observed by optical microscopy and interference profilometry. Changes in subsurface layer are characterized by means of nano- and microindentation and fractography of fracture surfaces (with the help of scanning electron microscopy). It is shown that the main influence on mechanical properties is mostly induced by thermal treatment during irradiation rather than formation of a 2 μm thick layer doped with Zr. The differences in deformation behavior may be explained by physical mesomechanics concepts.  相似文献

Ultrashort laser pulse is a unique nanometallurgical tool which operates at extreme conditions: ultimate strength of material, the smallest spatiotemporal scales, and nonequlibrium crystallization. Approaches to ultimate strength and to highly nonequlibrium crystallization are tightly coupled with the smallness of spatiotemporal scales. Usage of the tool opens new opportunities to create materials with enhanced surface hardness, anticorrosion properties, and diverted optical constants. To use these advantages we have first of all to develop clear and reliable physical model. The paper presents new results concerning interactions of optical or X-ray lasers with metals. It is shown that ultrashort laser pulse melts surface layer, sends shock into bulk, and foams molten metal. Dense dislocation bilayer is created thanks to fast recrystallization (the first sublayer) and plastic transformations behind strong shock (the second sublayer). Plastic shock generated at moderate laser intensities attenuates sharply during its propagation into metal. During this attenuation, a plastic shock regenerates into a powerful elastic shock. This process defines boundary between the second dislocation sublayer and undamaged solid. Mechanical breaking of foam after its strong stretching and fly away of a part of melt together with fast freezing are responsible for appearance of chaotic frozen nanostructures at an irradiated surface.  相似文献

Here, a single‐step, biomimetic approach for the realization of omnidirectional transparent antireflective glass is reported. In particular, it is shown that circularly polarized ultrashort laser pulses produce self‐organized nanopillar structures on fused silica (SiO2). The laser‐induced nanostructures are selectively textured on the glass surface in order to mimic the spatial randomness, pillar‐like morphology, as well as the remarkable antireflection properties found on the wings of the glasswing butterfly, Greta oto, and various Cicada species. The artificial structures exhibit impressive antireflective properties, both in the visible and infrared frequency ranges, which are remarkably stable over time. Accordingly, the laser‐processed glass surfaces show reflectivity smaller than 1% for various angles of incidence in the visible spectrum for s–p linearly polarized configurations. However, in the near‐infrared spectrum, the laser‐textured glass shows higher transmittance compared to the pristine. It is envisaged that the current results will revolutionize the technology of antireflective transparent surfaces and impact numerous applications from glass displays to optoelectronic devices.  相似文献

The effects of hydrogen incorporation in dilute nitride semiconductors, specifically GaAs1‐xNx, are discussed. The remarkable consequences of hydrogen irradiation include tuneable and reversible changes in the electronic, optical, structural, and electrical properties of these materials. The highly trapping‐limited diffusion of H atoms in dilute nitrides results in the formation of extremely sharp heterointerfaces between H‐containing and H‐free regions of the crystals. This, in turn, offers an unprecedented possibility to tailor the physical properties of a semiconductor chip in its growth plane with nanometer precision. A number of examples are presented and discussed.  相似文献

Fabrication of two and three‐dimensional nanostructures requires the development of new methodologies for the assembly of molecular/macromolecular objects on substrates in predetermined arrangements. Templated self‐assembly approach is a powerful strategy for the creation of materials from assembly of molecular components or nanoparticles. The present study describes the development of a facile, template directed self‐assembly of (metal/organic) nanomaterials into periodic micro‐ and nanostructures. The positioning and the organization of nanomaterials into spatially well‐defined arrays were achieved using an amphiphilic conjugated polymer‐aided, self‐organization process. Arrays of honeycomb patterns formed from conjugated C12PPPOH film with homogenous distribution of metal/organic nanomaterials. Our approach offers a straightforward and inexpensive method of preparation for hybrid thin films without environmentally controlled chambers or sophisticated instruments as compared to multistep micro‐fabrication techniques.  相似文献

One of the most promising applications of encapsulated living cells is their use as protected transplanted tissue into the human body. A suitable system for the protection of living cells is the use of nano‐ or microcapsules of polyelectrolytes. These shells can be deposited easily on top of the cells by means of a layer‐by‐layer technique. An interesting feature of the capsules is the possibility to control their properties on a nanometre level, tuning their wall texture via the preparation conditions. Here we introduce a model system to test the protection ability of polyelectrolyte capsules. Common bakery yeast cells were encapsulated. They were coated with a fluorescently labelled shell at conditions known to guarantee cell survival, and the cell interior was stained with DAPI. The protozoan Paramecium primaurelia was incubated with this double‐stained living yeast and visualized by means of two‐photon excitation fluorescence microscopy. Cross‐sections of the dye‐stained material as well as autofluorescence of the fixed protozoan allowed us to follow the digestion of the coated yeast with time. Our investigation reveals that capsules prepared under these deposition conditions are permeable to lysosomal enzymes, leading to degradation of the yeast inside the intact capsules. Our preliminary results indicate the suitability of the introduced model as a test system of this permeability.  相似文献

Structural defects often dominate the electronic‐ and thermal‐transport properties of thermoelectric (TE) materials and are thus a central ingredient for improving their performance. However, understanding the relationship between TE performance and the disordered atomic defects that are generally inherent in nanostructured alloys remains a challenge. Herein, the use of scanning transmission electron microscopy to visualize atomic defects directly is described and disordered atomic‐scale defects are demonstrated to be responsible for the enhancement of TE performance in nanostructured Ti1?x Hfx NiSn1?y Sby half‐Heusler alloys. The disordered defects at all atomic sites induce a local composition fluctuation, effectively scattering phonons and improving the power factor. It is observed that the Ni interstitial and Ti,Hf/Sn antisite defects are collectively formed, leading to significant atomic disorder that causes the additional reduction of lattice thermal conductivity. The Ti1?x Hfx NiSn1?y Sby alloys containing inherent atomic‐scale defect disorders are produced in one hour by a newly developed process of temperature‐regulated rapid solidification followed by sintering. The collective atomic‐scale defect disorder improves the zT to 1.09 ± 0.12 at 800 K for the Ti0.5Hf0.5NiSn0.98Sb0.02 alloy. These results provide a promising avenue for improving the TE performance of state‐of‐the‐art materials.  相似文献

In this work, a record high thermoelectric figure-of-merit ZT of 1.6 ± 0.2 at 873 K in p-type polycrystalline Bi0.94Pb0.06CuSe1.01O0.99 by a synergy of rational band manipulation and novel nanostructural design is reported. First-principles density functional theory calculation results indicate that the density of state at the Fermi level that crosses the valence band can be significantly reduced and the measured optical bandgap can be enlarged from 0.70 to 0.74 eV by simply replacing 1% O with 1% Se, both indicating a potentially reduced carrier concentration and in turn, an improved carrier mobility and a boosted power factor up to 9.0 µW cm−1 K−2. Meanwhile, comprehensive characterizations reveal that under Se-rich condition, Cu2Se secondary microphases and significant lattice distortions triggered by Pb-doping and Se-substitution can be simultaneously achieved, contributing to a reduced lattice thermal conductivity of 0.4 W m−1 K−1. Furthermore, a unique shear exfoliation technique enables an effective grain refinement with higher anisotropy of the polycrystalline pellet, leading to a further improved power factor up to 10.9 µW cm−1 K−2 and a further reduced lattice thermal conductivity of 0.30 W m−1 K−1, which gives rise to record high ZT.  相似文献

While patterning 2D metallic nanostructures are well established through different techniques, 3D printing still constitutes a major bottleneck on the way to device miniaturization. In this work a fluid phase phospholipid ink is used as a building block for structuring with dip-pen nanolithography. Following a bioinspired approach that relies on ink-spreading inhibition, two processes are presented to build 2D and 3D metallic structures. Serum albumin, a widely used protein with an innate capability to bind to lipids, is the key in both processes. Covering the sample surface with it prior to lipid writing, anchors lipids on the substrate, which ultimately allows the creation of highly stable 3D lipid-based scaffolds to build metallic structures.  相似文献
