The present work addresses the potentialities of Pt–Ru nanoparticles deposited on a graphene oxide (RGO) and TiO2 composite support towards electrochemical oxidation of ethanol in acidic media relevant for fuel cell applications. To immobilize platinum–ruthenium bimetallic nanoparticles on to an RGO-TiO2 nanohybrid support a simple solution-phase chemical reduction method is utilized. An examination using electron microscopy and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS) indicated that Pt–Ru particles of 4–8 nm in diameter are dispersed on RGO-TiO2 composite support. The corresponding Pt–Ru/RGO-TiO2 nanocomposite electrocatalyst was studied for the electrochemical oxidation of ethanol in acidic media. Compared to the commercial Pt–Ru/C and Pt/C catalysts, Pt–Ru/RGO-TiO2 nanocomposite yields higher mass-specific activity of about 1.4 and 3.2 times, respectively towards ethanol oxidation reaction (EOR). The synergistic boosting provided by RGO-TiO2 composite support and Pt–Ru ensemble together contributed to the observed higher EOR activity and stability to Pt–Ru/RGO-TiO2 nanocomposite compared with other in-house synthesized Pt–Ru/RGO, Pt/RGO and commercial Pt–Ru/C and Pt/C electrocatalysts. Further optimization of RGO-TiO2 composite support provides opportunity to deposit many other types of metallic nanoparticles onto it for fuel cell electrocatalysis applications.  相似文献

Electrolysis of water for producing hydrogen instead of traditional fossil fuels is one of the most promising methods to alleviate environmental pollution and energy crisis. In this work, Fe and F ion co-doped Ni3S2 nanoarrays grown on Ni foam substrate were prepared by typical hydrothermal and sulfuration processes for the first time. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation demonstrate that the adsorption energy of the material to water is greatly enhanced due to the doping of F and Fe, which is conducive to the formation of intermediate species and the improvement of electrochemical performance of the electrode. The adsorption energy of anions (F and S) and cations (Fe and Ni) to water in each material was also calculated, and the results showed that F ion showed the most optimal adsorption energy of water, which proved that the doping of F and Fe was beneficial to improve the electrochemical performance of the electrode. It is worth noting that the surface of Fe–F–Ni3S2 material will undergo reconstruction during the process of water oxidation reaction and urea oxidation reaction, and amorphous oxides or hydroxides in situ would be formed on the surface of electrode, which are the real active species.  相似文献

Electrocatalytic reduction of N2 to NH3 under ambient conditions, inspired by biological nitrogen fixation, is a new approach to address the current energy shortage crisis. As a result, developing efficient and low-cost catalysts is critical. The catalytic activity, catalytic mechanism, and selectivity of α-arsenene (α-Ars) catalysts anchored with various transition metal atoms and doped with different numbers of N atom were investigated for N2 reduction reaction (NRR) in this paper. Results reveal that compared with WN3-α-Ars which is coordinated with three N atoms, asym-WN2As-α-Ars that coordinated with two N atoms not only exhibits high catalytic activity (UL = ?0.36 V), but can also successfully suppress the hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). It is manifested that reducing the number of coordination atoms can promote the selectivity of the transition metal (TM) loaded N-doped arsenene catalysts. Furthermore, activity origin analyses show both the charge on 1N–NH and φ form volcano-type relationship with the limiting potential. The active center of the catalyst, which acts as the charge transporter and has the moderate ability to retrieve charges, is the most efficient in NRR. Overall, this research creates high performance NRR catalysts by varying the number of coordinating N atoms, which provides a novel idea for the development of new NRR catalysts.  相似文献

Morphology of carbon nanofibers significantly effects Pt nanoparticles dispersion and specific interaction with the support, which is an important aspect in the fuel cell performance of the electrocatalysts. This study emphasizes, the defects creation and structural evolution comprised due to N–F co-doping on graphitic carbon nanofibers (GNFs) of different morphologies, viz. GNF-linearly aligned platelets (L), antlers (A), herringbone (H), and their specific interaction with Pt nanoparticle in enhancing the oxygen reduction reaction (ORR). GNFs–NF–Pt catalysts exhibit better ORR electrocatalytic activity, superior durability that is solely ascribed to the morphological evolution and the doped N–F heteroatoms, prompting the charge density variations in the resultant carbon fiber matrices. Amongst, H–NF–Pt catalyst performed outstanding ORR activity with exceptional electrochemical stability, which shows only 20 mV loss in the half-wave potential whilst 100 mV loss for Pt/C catalyst on 20,000 potential cycling. The PEMFC comprising H–NF–Pt as cathode catalyst with minimum loading of 0.10 mg cm?2, delivers power density of 0.942 W cm?2 at current density of 2.50 A cm?2 without backpressures in H2–O2 feeds. The H–NF–Pt catalyst owing to its hierarchical architectures, performs well in PEMFC at the minimized catalyst loading with outstanding stability that can significantly decrease total price for the fuel cell.  相似文献

Developing efficient, stable and ideal urea oxide (UOR) electrocatalyst is key to produce green hydrogen in an economical way. Herein, Ru doped three dimensional (3D) porous Ni3N spheres, with tannic acid (TA) and urea as the carbon and nitrogen resources, is synthesized via hydrothermal and low-temperature treated process (Ru–Ni3N@NC). The porous nanostructure of Ni3N and the nickel foam provide abundant active sites and channel during catalytic process. Moreover, Ru doping and rich defects favor to boost the reaction kinetics by optimizing the adsorption/desorption or dissociation of intermediates and reactants. The above advantages enable Ru–Ni3N@NC to have good bifunctional catalytic performance in alkaline media. Only 43 and 270 mV overpotentials are required for hydrogen evolution (HER) and oxygen evolution (OER) reactions to drive a current of 10 mA cm?2. Moreover, it also showed good electrocatalytic performance in neutral and alkaline seawater electrolytes for HER with 134 mV to drive 10 mA cm?2 and 83 mV to drive 100 mA cm?2, respectively. Remarkably, the as-designed Ru–Ni3N@NC also owns extraordinary catalytic activity and stability toward UOR. Moreover, using the synthesized Ru–Ni3N@NC nanomaterial as the anode and cathode of urea assisted water decomposition, a small potential of 1.41 V was required to reach 10 mA cm?2. It can also be powered by sustainable energy sources such as wind, solar and thermal energies. In order to make better use of the earth's abundant resources, this work provides a new way to develop multi-functional green electrocatalysts.  相似文献

In this work, novel rhombus-shaped cerium oxide sheets (RCOS) were prepared using a facile, soft-chemical approach that was low cost, scalable, eco-friendly, and industrially viable. The structural and surface chemical properties were studied using spectroscopic and electron microscopic techniques. The synthesized RCOSs were used for the methanol oxidation reaction and supercapacitor studies. The RCOSs showed a current density of ~227 mA cm–2 with an onset potential of ~0.37 V. The electrocatalyst activity retention was 92% of the initial activity after 500 CV cycles. A specific capacitance of 481 F g–1 at a scan rate of 5 mV s–1 was observed for supercapacitor application. The specific capacitance retention was ~83% after 500 cycles. The huge specific surface area and conductivity associated with cerium oxide sheets were responsible for the enhanced electrochemical properties. This is the first report on the synthesis of rhombus-shaped cerium oxide sheets, which leads to new avenues for synthesizing novel cerium-based electrode materials.  相似文献

The development of efficient and stable oxygen evolution reaction (OER) catalysts is an ongoing challenge. In order to solve the problem of low oxygen evolution efficiency of the current OER catalysts, a novel material was synthesized by the incorporation of NiFeCr-LDH and MoS2, and its structural and electrochemical properties were also investigated. The introduction of MoS2 improves the electrochemical performance of NiFeCr-LDH. The polarization curve shows that the potential of composite material is only 1.50 V at a current density of 10 mA cm?2, which is far superior to commercial precious metal catalysts. In addition, the stability experiment shows that the composite material has excellent stability, and the current density has little change after 500 cycles. Furthermore, we found that some metal ions, such as Ni, Cr and Mo, exist in the form of high valence on the surface of NiFeCr-LDH@MoS2, which is also conducive to the occurrence of oxygen evolution reaction.  相似文献

In this work, Ni foam supported hierarchical NiCo2O4 nanomaterials are successfully prepared through a hydrothermal process and subsequent calcination process, then the hierarchical NiCo2O4 is converted to hierarchical NiCo2S4 through a hydrothermal anion exchange process. The hierarchical nanomaterials are constructed by a nanorod core and nanoribbons shell. The morphology evolution mechanism of the hierarchical NiCo2O4 is studied by exploratory experiments, the results show that the morphology evolution from nanorod to hierarchical nanostructure undergo a solid–solid process, and the calcination temperature is crucial for the formation of the hierarchical nanostructure. The hierarchical NiCo2O4 and NiCo2S4 nanomaterials are both used as electrocatalysts for methanol oxidation reaction in alkaline electrolyte, and the electrocatalytic activity of the NiCo2S4 is higher than that of the NiCo2O4. Cycling test shows the good stability of the NiCo2S4, and the slight loss of activity during cycling is caused by the surface oxidation of NiCo2S4 in alkaline electrolyte. This work indicate that the hierarchical NiCo2S4 is a promising non-noble metal electrocatalyst for direct methanol fuel cells.  相似文献

The electrochemical oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) via two-electron pathway is a sustainable way of producing hydrogen peroxide. Nanostructured carbon materials are proved to be effective catalysts for 2e? ORR. Herein, a series of mesoporous carbon with tunable nitrogen species and oxygen functional groups were synthesized by varying the added amount of dopamine hydrochloride as nitrogen and oxygen source. The modified catalysts exhibited higher content of pyrrolic-N and ether C–O groups which are confirmed by a series of characterization. Raman spectra and correlation analysis revealed that the increased proportion of defect sites in carbon materials are closely related to the introduced pyrrolic-N and ether C–O groups. And the rotating ring-disk electrode (RRDE) measurement carried out in 0.1 M KOH electrolyte showed the H2O2 selectivity increased with the content of defect sites. Among them, the optimized catalyst (NOC-6M) exhibited a selectivity of 95.2% and a potential of 0.71 V vs. RHE at ?1 mA cm?2. Moreover, NOC-6M possessed the high H2O2 production rate of 548.8 mmol gcat?1 h?1 with faradaic efficiency of 92.4% in a two-chamber H-cell. Further mechanistic analysis revealed that the introduction of pyrrolic-N and ether C–O are likely to improve the binding energy of the defect sites toward 1OOH intermediate, resulting in a more favorable 2e? ORR pathway for H2O2 production.  相似文献

Electrocatalytic hydrogen evolution under alkaline media holds great promising in hydrogen energy production. Transition-metal sulfides (TMSs) are attractive for electrocatalytic alkaline hydrogen evolution, yet their catalytic performance is unsatisfactory owing to the sluggish water dissociation kinetics. Herein, a Mn/N co-doping strategy is proposed to regulate the water dissociation kinetics of Co9S8 nanowires array grown on nickel foam thus improve the activity of hydrogen evolution reaction (HER). The optimal Mn/N co-doping Co9S8 (Mn–N–Co9S8) catalyst achieves low overpotentials of 102 and 238 mV at 10 and 100 mA cm?2 in the 1 M KOH solution, respectively, remarkably higher than the single-doping Mn–Co9S8 and N–Co9S8 as well as superior to many reported Co9S8-based HER electrocatalysts. Density functional theory (DFT) calculation results confirm that the water dissociation barrier of the Mn–N–Co9S8 is reduced significantly owing to the synergistic co-doping of Mn and N, which accounts for the enhanced alkaline HER performance. This study offers an effective strategy to enhance the alkaline HER activity of TMSs by accelerating water dissociation kinetic via the cation and anion co-doping strategy.  相似文献
