When a pile is installed into saturated clay ground, the “setup” effect may occur due to ground consolidation, which changes pile performance. Although this phenomenon has been observed both in the field and laboratory, its numerical simulation is still challenging. In this work, pile installation effects on the behaviors of jacked-in piles were investigated through three simulation techniques by a three-dimensional finite element analysis program, PLAXIS 3D. A constitutive model called the soft soil creep model was used to describe the soil behavior based on soil parameters obtained from laboratory tests. The behaviors of single piles were first investigated with or without the consolidation process after pile installation to evaluate the pile setup effect. Then, a pile group comprising 4 piles was analyzed using the consolidation process to verify the applicability of the three simulation techniques. The calculated results were compared with the corresponding experimental results. The calculated results using three techniques generally agreed well with the experimental results in terms of initial stiffness and pile shaft resistance. Both the measured and calculated results indicate that ground consolidation caused by pile installation significantly increases the pile bearing capacity and especially, the pile shaft resistance. Therefore, the pile setup effect can be reasonably simulated by the three proposed techniques.  相似文献

This paper presents a study of liquefaction analysis at sand layers of the Izumio site, under ground motion variation during a strong earthquake in Osaka, Japan. Site investigation using standard penetration test and shear wave velocity measurement is conducted. Finite element liquefaction site response analysis integrated with a strain space multiple mechanism model is conducted. Ground motions variation is considered based on the seismic record at surrounding seismic stations. Attenuation analysis is conducted to determine the scaling factor for ground motions. Several results, such as acceleration profiles and cyclic behaviours are presented. The empirical analysis is also conducted to verify the results of the numerical analysis. The results explained that cyclic behaviours of sandy layers in the Izumio site show the liquefaction tendency. The results also showed that sandy layers are indicated as critical layers during the strong earthquake due to the excess pore water pressure reaching the liquefaction threshold. The results of the empirical analysis also present liquefaction indication at sand layers under the variation of ground motion, since the factor of safety against liquefaction is less than 1. The results are generally well-agree with liquefaction evidence and prediction presented in the previous study. The results could bring practical importance in understanding liquefaction potential in the study area.  相似文献

Interface shear strength of geosynthetic clay liners (GCL) with the sand particles is predominantly influenced by the surface characteristics of the GCL, size and shape of the sand particles and their interaction mechanisms. This study brings out the quantitative effects of particle shape on the interaction mechanisms and shear strength of GCL-sand interfaces. Interface direct shear tests are conducted on GCL in contact with a natural sand and a manufactured sand of identical gradation, eliminating the particle size effects. Results showed that manufactured sand provides effective particle-fiber interlocking compared to river sand, due to the favorable shape of its grains. Further, the role of particle shape on the hydration of GCL is investigated through interface shear tests on GCL-sand interfaces at different water contents. Bentonite hydration is found to be less in tests with manufactured sand, leading to better interface shear strength. Grain shape parameters of sands, surface changes related to hydration and particle entrapment in GCL are quantified through image analysis on sands and tested GCL surfaces. It is observed that the manufactured sand provides higher interface shear strength and causes lesser hydration related damages to GCL, owing to its angular particles and low permeability.  相似文献

This paper presents a numerical study on the load-bearing performance of reinforced slopes under footing load using a finite element limit analysis (FELA) method where a non-associated flow rule is assumed in the analysis. The method was validated against results from full-scale model tests and a limit equilibrium (LE) analytical method. A series of parametric analyses was subsequently carried out to examine the influences that the soil dilation angle, footing location, and reinforcement design (i.e. length, tensile strength, and vertical spacing) could have on the load-bearing performance of reinforced slopes. Results indicate that dilation angle has a significant influence on the predicted magnitudes of bearing capacity, slope deformation, and mobilized reinforcement load. The predicted values of bearing capacity using the FELA are smaller than those from the Meyerhof's analytical method for unreinforced semi-infinite foundation, especially for larger friction angle values. Additionally, the ultimate bearing capacity of the slope and its corresponding horizontal deformation increase with the reinforcement tensile strength. Finally, the slip planes under the applied footing load are found to be y-shaped and primarily occur in the upper half of the slope.  相似文献

The aim of this paper is to measure and benchmark the environmental performance of Portuguese utilities jointly active in the three sectors of water supply, wastewater collection and solid waste management. To do so, we suggest the use of a traditional (optimistic) directional distance Benefit of the Doubt index. We complement the analysis by considering also the pessimistic version of the proposed BoD and by implementing a robust and conditional approach. The obtained results show that there is space for improvement in the pressure balance of these utilities, especially for small and very large units, mostly operating in urban areas.  相似文献

In this study, the infrastructure leakage index (ILI) indicator that is preferred frequently by the water utilities with sufficient data to determine the performances of water distribution systems is modeled for the first time through the three different methodologies using different input data. In addition to the variables in the literature used for the classical ILI calculations, the age parameter is also included in the models. In the first step, the ILI values have been estimated via multiple linear regression (MLR) using water supply quantity, water accrual quantity, network length, service connection length, number of service connections, and pressure variables. Secondly, the Artificial Neural Network (ANN) approach has been applied with raw data to improve the ILI prediction performance. Finally, the data set has been standardized with the Z-Score method for increasing the learning power of the ANN models, and then the ANN predictions have been made by converting the data through the principal component analysis (PCA) method to minimize complexity by reducing the data set size. The model predictions have been evaluated via mean square error, G-value, mean absolute error, mean bias error, and adjusted-R2 model performance scale. When the model outputs obtained at the end of the study are evaluated together with the classical ILI calculations, it is seen that the successful ILI predictions with three and four variables, including the age parameter, rather than six variables, have been made through the PC-ANN method. Water utilities with insufficient physical and operational data for ILI indicator calculation can make network performance evaluations by predicting the ILI through the models suggested in this study with high accuracy in a reliable way.  相似文献

An experimental analysis regarding the distribution of the cutting fluid is very difficult due to the inaccessibility of the contact zone within the bore hole. Therefore, suitable simulation models are necessary to evaluate new tool designs and optimize drilling processes. In this paper the coolant distribution during helical deep hole drilling is analyzed with high-speed microscopy. Micro particles are added to the cutting fluid circuit by a developed high-pressure mixing vessel. After the evaluation of suitable particle size, particle concentration and coolant pressure, a computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation is validated with the experimental results. The comparison shows a very good model quality with a marginal difference for the flow velocity of 1.57% between simulation and experiment. The simulation considers the kinematic viscosity of the fluid. The results show that the fluid velocity in the chip flutes is low compared to the fluid velocity at the exit of the coolant channels of the tool and drops even further between the guide chamfers. The flow velocity and the flow pressure directly at the cutting edge decrease to such an extent that the fluid cannot generate a sufficient cooling or lubrication. With the CFD simulation a deeper understanding of the behavior and interactions of the cutting fluid is achieved. The term environmental innovation system refers to an innovation network composed of enterprises, universities, and research institutions involved in the development and diffusion of environmental technology, with the participation of a government. An environmental innovation system not only exerts important impact on the achievement of carbon neutrality but also affects social and economic activities. Investigations on environmental innovation system performance constantly assume a single-stage independent system while ignoring its internal structure. However, such systems are composed of environmental innovation research and development (R&D) and environmental innovation conversion subsystems. A two-stage data envelopment analysis (DEA) model is developed in this study to analyze the efficiency of Chinese regional environmental innovation system by opening the “black box” and considering shared resources. Empirical results indicated that China presents high overall environmental innovation efficiency although some regions need to improve. Regions with low efficiencies in both environmental innovation R&D (EIR) and environmental innovation conversion (EIC) subsystems should expand their investment in and strengthen the management of environmental innovation resources. Regions with low EIR efficiency should improve the absorption and transformation of environmental innovation achievements. Regions with low EIC efficiency should increase investment in the commercialization of environmental innovation achievements and encourage green economy industries, such as new energy, art, tourism, and environmental protection.  相似文献
