Under the DARPA sponsored Avionics Optoelectronic Module Technology program, new passive alignment carrier (PAC) optical subassemblies (LED-PAC and PIN-PAC) ruggedized for military/aerospace avionics fiber-optic transmitter and receiver applications have been developed, LED-PAC and PIN-PAC silicon micro-optical bench substrates were fabricated together on a 5 in diameter silicon wafer via multistage photolithography, thin-film, and substrate processing. Alignment v-grooves designed for passive optical alignment of 100/140 μm multimode optical fiber to the optoelectronic devices were terminated by solder locking the fiber to the silicon PAC substrates. The LED-PAC comprising a surface emitting LED die-bonded onto a novel precision molded AM submount passively mounted onto the silicon microbench achieves the required high coupling efficiency to 100/140 μm multimode optical fiber to meet stringent avionics transmitter output power requirements. The 100/130 μm multimode optical fiber-pigtailed PIN-PAC with a refractive lens etched into the p-i-n photodiode backside surface exhibited responsivities greater than 0.8 A/W at 1.3 μm wavelength. The LED-PAC and PIN-PAC optical subassemblies integrated with Boeing ARINC 636 (FDDI) transmitter and receiver thick film multichip (MCM-C) circuitry are capable of meeting both ARINC 636 and FDDI physical layer requirements 相似文献

Outpatient clinics traditionally organize processes such that the doctor remains in a consultation room while patients visit
for consultation, we call this the Patient-to-Doctor policy (PtD-policy). A different approach is the Doctor-to-Patient policy
(DtP-policy), whereby the doctor travels between multiple consultation rooms, in which patients prepare for their consultation.
In the latter approach, the doctor saves time by consulting fully prepared patients. We use a queueing theoretic and a discrete-event
simulation approach to provide generic models that enable performance evaluations of the two policies for different parameter
settings. These models can be used by managers of outpatient clinics to compare the two policies and choose a particular policy
when redesigning the patient process. We use the models to analytically show that the DtP-policy is superior to the PtD-policy
under the condition that the doctor’s travel time between rooms is lower than the patient’s preparation time. In addition,
to calculate the required number of consultation rooms in the DtP-policy, we provide an expression for the fraction of consultations
that are in immediate succession; or, in other words, the fraction of time the next patient is prepared and ready, immediately
after a doctor finishes a consultation. We apply our methods for a range of distributions and parameters and to a case study

The objective of the work was to elucidate the chemical composition of fractions of oil extracts obtained during the supercritical extraction on a semi‐industrial scale from strawberry (Fragaria x ananassa Duch.), chokeberry [Aronia melanocarpa (Michx.)], and raspberry (Rubus idaeus L.) seeds from industrial press cake. The oil extracts differed in terms of their content of bioactive components: carotenoids, tocopherols, chlorophylls, and fatty acids. Raspberry seed oil was the richest source of tocopherols (620.1–2166.7 mg kg?1) and α‐linolenic acid (above 37%). Chokeberry seed oil had the highest content of linoleic acid (above 70%), and α‐tocopherol (166.0–1104.8 mg kg?1). Strawberry oil was characterized by the highest content of chlorophylls and α‐linolenic acid (above 30%). It was showed that the oil fraction collected at the beginning of extraction is characterized by a high acid value, which requires purification steps to be used for food purposes.
Practical applications
Strawberry, raspberry, and chokeberry by‐products left over from the production of concentrated juice are a valuable source of oils rich in n‐3 and n‐6 polyunsaturated fatty acids, tocopherols, and carotenoids. The research showed that the fractionation of extracts in the course of supercritical extraction leads to oils with varying amounts of different bioactive compounds, and thus to products with potentially wide applications. Seeds oils have high potential utility as a source of unconventional oil for cosmetic and pharmaceutical sectors and biodiesel. Beef adductor muscles were incubated for 4 h post mortem at 10°C and for 4 h and 6 h post mortem at 30°C, 37°C and 42°C. Half of the muscles were cooked just after incubation and the other half was first stored for two days at 4°C and then cooked. Meat kept for 4 h or 6 h at 42°C and for 6 h at 37°C and cooked at once had a significantly (p<0·05) lower shear force than meat kept for 4 h at 37°C, 4 h at 30°C, 6 h at 30°C or 4 h at 10°C. The respective significant differences were also found when the meat was cooked two days after incubation. Organoleptic evaluation showed that meat incubated for 6 h at 37°C or for 4 h at 42°C was not significantly more tender than other samples. However, meat kept for 6 h at 42°C was more tender (p<0·5) than the other samples. After two days of storage, meat incubated for 6 h at 37°C and for 6 h at 42° was more tender (p<0·05) than meat kept for 6 h at 30°C. It was concluded that high temperature conditioning at 37°C or higher for 6 h (4 h at 42°C) just after slaughter makes meat more tender than conventional cooling systems. 相似文献

Lipoprotein lipase (LPL) activity and free fatty acid levels were studied in freshly milked, uncooled milk from individual Danish Holstein or Jersey cows, or after storage for up to 24 h at either a cooling temperature (4°C) or at the milking temperature (31°C). Upon cooling for up to 24 h, LPL activity increased in the cream phase, whereas the activity in the skim milk was steady, as observed for Jersey cows, or increased, as seen for the Holsteins. Storage at 31°C decreased the LPL activity in both the cream phase and the skim milk phase. The increase in free fatty acid levels was found to depend on LPL activity, incubation temperature, substrate availability, and incubation time. Furthermore, the migration of milk proteins between the skim milk phase and the cream phase upon cooling of milk from Jersey cows or from Danish Holstein cows was studied using proteomic methods involving 2-dimensional gel electrophoresis and mass spectrometry. Proteins associated with the milk fat globules were isolated from all milk fractions and analyzed. Major changes in the distributions of proteins between the skim milk phase and the cream phase were observed after cooling at 4°C for 4 h, where a total of 29 proteins between the 2 breeds was found to change their association with the milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) significantly. Among these, the MFGM proteins adipophilin, fatty acid-binding protein, and lactadherin, as well as the non-MFGM proteins β-casein, lactoferrin, and heat shock protein-71, were identified. Adipophilin, lactadherin, and lactoferrin were quantitatively more associated with the MFGM upon cold storage at 4°C, whereas β-casein, fatty acid-binding protein, and heat shock protein-71 were found to be less associated with the MFGM upon cold storage. 相似文献

Five groups of salmon, of initial mean weight 127±3 g, were fed increasing levels of dietary linseed oil (LO) in a regression
design. The control diet contained capelin oil (FO) only, and the same oil was blended with LO to provide the experimental
diets. After an initial period of 40 wk, all groups were switched to a finishing diet containing only FO for a further 24
wk. Growth and flesh lipid contents were not affected by dietary treatment. The FA compositions of flesh total lipids were
linearly correlated with dietary FA compositions (r
2=0.88–1.00, P<0.0001). LO included at 50% of added dietary lipids reduced flesh DHA and EPA (20∶5n−3) concentrations to 65 and 58%, respectively,
of the concentrations in fish fed FO. Feeding 100% LO reduced flesh DHA and EPA concentrations to 38 and 30%, respectively,
of the values in fish fed FO. Differences between diet and flesh FA concentrations showed that 16∶0, 18∶1n−9, and especially
DHA were preferentially retained in flesh, whereas 18∶2n−6, 18∶3n−3, and 22∶1n−11 were selected against and presumably utilized
for energy. In fish previously fed 50 and 100% LO, feeding a finishing diet containing FO for 16 wk restored flesh DHA and
EPA concentrations, to ≈80% of the values in fish fed FO throughout. Flesh DHA and EPA concentrations in fish fed up to 50%
LO were above recommended intake values for humans for these EFA. This study suggests that LO can be used as a substitute
for FO in seawater salmon feeds and that any reductions in DHA and EPA can be largely overcome with a finishing diethigh in

In-reactor blends of polypropylene/poly(ethylene-co-propylene) with complex microstructure, synthesized through different polymerization procedures; two-step (one homopolymerization and one copolymerization under high ethylene concentration) and three-step (with an additional copolymerization step under low ethylene concentration), were characterized by rheological measurements. The effects of a change in the polymerization process on the types and amounts of block copolymers in the blends were evaluated using small amplitude oscillation rheometry in the linear viscoelastic region. The Palierne model in its complete form was employed to model the rheological behavior of the blends. For this analysis the reactor products were separated into xylene cold insoluble (XCI) and xylene cold soluble fractions. Besides, another two copolymer fractions at 80 and 100 °C, which are crystallizable copolymer fractions and contain block copolymers rich in polyethylene and polypropylene, respectively, were separated from XCI fraction by xylene using temperature gradient elution fractionation method. Considering all copolymer fractions as dispersed and the remained fraction (mostly polypropylene) as matrix phase, it was shown that the rheological properties of the blends could not be predicted by Palierne model. It was found that only by considering part of block copolymer fractions having long polypropylene sequences along with polypropylene homopolymer as one phase, the rheological properties of the blends could be predicted by Palierne model. By rheological modeling, it was confirmed that the amounts of copolymers with long polypropylene sequences which are miscible with the matrix are higher in the case of three-step blends and also the elasticity of three-step polymerized blends is higher than two-step polymerized blends. 相似文献

The behaviour of two types of magnesium stearate with different specific surface areas on granule particles was examined. The magnesium stearate concentration was measured with an energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence analyser. Different measurement procedures were used to investigate the properties of the two types of magnesium stearate when using different blending times and rotation speeds. Correlations were found between the specific surface area of the magnesium stearate, the blending time, the rotation speed and the specific surface free energy of the excipients. If magnesium stearate has a high specific surface area it shows higher adhesion work and is able to create a very thin homogeneous layer on the surface of the particles. Magnesium concentration was detected with the energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence analyser. Based on the X-ray investigation the optimum blending time and rotation speed can be determined. 相似文献
