Salience of public leaders’ “meaning making” in news coverage of a health crisis

Meaning making by leadership in a crisis is required to reduce uncertainty. We used analytic criteria for meaning making suggested by crisis management literature to investigate public leaders’ quotations in news coverage of a health crisis. The quotations were examined in terms of the five frame functions, which include offering a credible explanation of what happened, offering guidance, instilling hope, showing empathy, and suggesting that leaders are in control. The Middle East respiratory syndrome outbreak in South Korea was examined. As a result, the most salient frame function identified was displaying they are in control of the emergency, followed by offering guidance and explaining what happened. The salience of leaders’ meaning making disappeared in coverage by a liberal newspaper.

当代景观设计中价值取向的转变,包括设计行为从创造画面转向塑造场所,从创造新事物转向重现场地本质与原貌。依据景观设计中的空间特征和规划设计应用价值,将文本视角下的当代景观空间特征“复写”（palimpsest）定义为场地中各历史层次与当代层次的结合与共同显现。复写空间利用场地的潜力,实现了景观意义的传达,具有二元性、互文性及透明性的特点。复写既可以作为分析工具,也可以作为设计手段,其核心价值在于：多层空间结构得以平等呈现;历史信息积累而显现场地特质;设计创造诱发新的发展空间与场地产生关联。结合案例论述,研究与复写相关的分析方法与设计路径：呈现自治或在场地介入过程中建立互设关系,相关设计思想可回溯到埃森曼“人工开挖”（artificial excavation）的设计理念,以及文化景观及遗产保护中的“踪迹”（trace）概念。以场地空间特征出发,选择合适的设计方法,进而提出复写空间的多层建构是设计过程的关键部分。

The house as an expression of social worlds: Irbid's elite and their architecture

This paper shows howarchitecture can be explained through the ideaof the Social World. The social world isan abstract concept defined as a cultural area,the boundaries of which are defined by thelimit of effective communication. Within thesocial world there are special norms and valuesand a common outlook towards life. Itencompasses factors like identity, culture,social communication and economic and politicalconditions without being limited to one singlefactor. The paper establishes a link betweenthe contemporary villas of Irbid, the secondlargest city in Jordan, and the social worldsof their inhabitants. The paper focuses onIrbid's University District (UD)differentiating between two groups of socialworlds, the old elite and the new elite. Itshows how the meaning of the house is differentamong the two groups. While the villa among theold elite is treated as a functional object forliving, it is now dealt with as a statusobject – an object for displaying theself – among the new elite.

数字化时代为建筑与空间的形式创作带来了前所未有的新的技术手段，但在形式之外，更为重要的是建筑内涵的变化。从作为媒介的建筑、城市与建筑的结构性重组，以及建筑的审美与象征意义三个方面，阐释了建筑在社会生活和时代变迁的影响下所发生的实质性转变。     

Musicking,embodiment and participatory enaction of music: outline and key points

This paper proposes a way of understanding the confluence of the enactive approach to cognition and musicology in a wider sense. The implication is that existing socio-cultural approaches to meaning in music – whereby music is seen as a total social phenomenon, and the naturalistic view of music cognition may be articulated via the life-mind continuum proposed by enactivism. On the one hand, discussions on embodied music cognition are presented with the opportunity to overcome their de facto individualism in a principled, naturalistic way. On the other hand, for the socio-cultural-historical approaches the opportunity seems to be to move beyond the biology-culture divide without submitting to reductionism. A wider explanatory unit is presented. The explanatory utility of embodiment is examined in relation to the wider frame of social-life in dialectical fashion. A definition of musicking is sketched considering it as an instance of processes of social-life. This paper signals a direction to take, yet methodologies, results, and homologies with other disciplines are left open to further discussion.
