Shadow fading is one of the least investigated factors of received signal power in a typical wireless communication system. Variations in the received power caused by shadowing events can impose some serious changes in the communication. This paper, proposes a new multiuser cognitive radio system in shadowing environment and its design optimization using cuckoo search algorithm. The transmission parameters of multiple secondary users in the purposed CR model are considered on the basis of IEEE 802.22 WRAN standard. An attempt to optimize these parameters in shadowing environment to achieve multiple objectives for desired quality of service have been made using a relatively newer and simpler cuckoo search algorithm. The optimization results have been compared with another efficient biogeography based optimization technique and the traditional simulated annealing.  相似文献

Efforts to improve dairy production in smallholder farming systems of East Africa over the past decade have had limited impact because of the lack of records on performance to guide targeted breeding programs. Estimates of genetic parameters in these systems are lacking. Using data generated through a project (“Germplasm for Dairy Development in East Africa”) in Kenya and a genomic relationship matrix from genotypic records, we examined the potential impact of different models handling contemporary groups or herd effects on estimates of genetic parameters using a fixed regression model (FRM) for test-day (TD) milk yields, and the covariance structure for TD milk yield at various stages of lactation for animals using a random regression model (RRM). Models in which herd groups were defined using production levels derived from the data fitted the data better than those in which herds were grouped depending on management practices or were random. Lactation curves obtained for animals under different production categories did not display the typical peak yield characteristic of improved dairy systems in developed countries. Heritability estimates for TD milk yields using the FRM varied greatly with the definition of contemporary herd groups, ranging from 0.05 ± 0.03 to 0.27 ± 0.05 (mean ± standard error). The analysis using the RRM fitted the data better than the FRM. The heritability estimates for specific TD yields obtained by the RRM were higher than those obtained by the FRM. Genetic correlations between TD yields were high and positive for measures within short consecutive intervals but decreased as the intervals between TD increased beyond 60 d and became negative with intervals of more than 5 mo. The magnitude of the genetic correlation estimates among TD records indicates that using TD milk records beyond a 60-d interval as repeated measures of the same trait for genetic evaluation of animals on smallholder farms would not be optimal. Although each individual smallholder farmer retains only a few animals, using the genomic relationship between animals to link the large number of farmers operating under specified environments provides a sufficiently large herd-group for which a breeding program could be developed.  相似文献

Poor strength, infection, leakage, long procedure times, and inflammation limit the efficacy of common tissue sealing devices in surgeries and trauma. Light-activated sealing is attractive for tissue sealing and repair, and can be facilitated by the generation of local heat following absorption of nonionizing laser energy by chromophores. Here, the inherent ability of biomaterials is exploited to absorb nonionizing, mid-infrared (midIR) light in order to engender rapid photothermal sealing and repair of soft tissue wounds. In this approach, the biomaterial simultaneously acts as a photothermal convertor as well as a biosealant, which dispenses the need for exogeneous light-absorbing nanoparticles or dyes. Biomechanical recovery, mathematical modeling, histopathology analyses, tissue strain mapping using digital imaging correlation, and visualization of the biosealant-tissue interface using hyperspectral imaging indicate superior performance of midIR sealing in live mice compared to conventional sutures and glue. The midIR-biosealant approach demonstrates rapid sealing of soft tissues, improves cosmesis, lowers potential for scarring, obviates safety concerns because of the nonionizing light used, and allows adoption of a wide diversity of biomaterials. Taken together, the studies demonstrate a novel advance both in biomaterials for surgical sealing along with the use of nonionizing midIR light, with high potential for clinical translation.  相似文献

A 16-channel current-measuring very large-scale integration (VLSI) sensor array system for highly sensitive electrochemical detection of electroactive neurotransmiters like dopamine and nitric-oxide is presented. Each channel embeds a current integrating potentiostat within a switched-capacitor first-order single-bit delta-sigma modulator implementing an incremental analog-to-digital converter. The duty-cycle modulation of current feedback in the delta-sigma loop together with variable oversampling ratio provide a programmable digital range selection of the input current spanning over six orders of magnitude from picoamperes to microamperes. The array offers 100-fA input current sensitivity at 3.4-muW power consumption per channel. The operation of the 3 mm times3 mm chip fabricated in 0.5-mum CMOS technology is demonstrated with real-time multichannel acquisition of neurotransmitter concentration  相似文献

Microencapsulation of phase change material (PCM) n‐octadecane was carried out by interfacial polymerization technique using core and bulk monomers as toluene‐2,4‐diisocyanate (TDI) and diethylene triamine (DETA), respectively. Cyclohexane was used as the solvent for TDI and n‐octadecane, which formed the oil phase. The effect of encapsulation procedure, core‐to‐monomer ratio (CM ratio) and PCM‐to‐cyclohexane (PC) ratio was investigated on core content, encapsulation efficiency, and stability of microcapsules. Using a modified procedure, the core content was found to increase with the increasing CM ratio and reached a maximum at 3.7, while the encapsulation efficiency continuously decreased with the increasing CM ratio. Also the encapsulation efficiency was found to have a strong dependence on PC ratio and a maximum encapsulation efficiency of 92%, along with the core content of 70% was obtained with CM ratio of 3.7 along with the PC ratio of 6. The microcapsules were well shaped, i.e., round and regular, with narrow size distribution at these conditions. Polyacrylonitrile solutions in N,N‐dimethylformamide (DMF) were electrospun into nanofibers by charging the polymer fluid in an electric field. Controlled experiments were performed using a needle type spinneret to investigate the effect of various electrospinning parameters on the percentage conversion of polymeric fluid into fibers and on fiber diameter obtained. It was found that when the polymeric fluid was continuously fed at a constant rate, application of a minimum electrospinning voltage (MEV) was necessary to “completely” convert the ejected fluid into nanojets to form nanofibers. Also, that the maximum amount of splitting or elongation that a polymeric fluid could undergo was primarily dependent on number of entanglements per chain in the fluid. This resulted in obtaining nanofibers with a particular diameter irrespective of the values of important electrospinning variables such as applied voltage, flow rates, and distance between the electrodes. On the other hand, MEV, necessary to obtain full conversion into nanofibers, was found to be strongly dependent on the spinning parameters and was unique for a given set of parameters. The significance of the MEV was evident from the fact that the square of the MEV, which is a measure of the electrical energy utilized by the system, was found to be directly proportional to the rate of formation of fiber surface area during the electrospinning process. © 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Temperature sensitive polymer hydrogels are being extensively studied because of their potential applications in the biomedical, robotics, and chemical industries. However, major hurdles in their development have been their slow response, low efficiency (swelling/deswelling ratios), and poor mechanical properties due to difficulty in processing them into mechanically strong and fine structures. Fibers made from such polymers would be highly desirable. A temperature sensitive random linear copolymer of Ntert‐butylacrylamide (NTBA) and acrylamide (Am) was synthesized by the solution polymerization method, using regulated dosing of comonomers. Using a novel approach, a high molecular weight poly(N‐tert‐butylacrylamide‐ran‐acrylamide::27 : 73) has been converted to insoluble strong fibers with fineness of 30–50 microns by solution spinning, drawing, and subsequent crosslinking. Fibers were solution spun in acetone using a 14% copolymer solution in acetic acid with polycarboxylic acid as a crosslinker and sodium hypophosphite as a catalyst. The crosslinks were formed, subsequent to drawing, between reactive amide side groups of the acrylamide moiety of the polymer and the carboxylic acid group of the crosslinker by thermal treatment at 160°C. The transition temperatures of the crosslinked fibers were found to shift towards the lower temperature from 37°C (in linear copolymer) to 22–25°C. These engineered fibers display sharp temperature sensitivity, extremely high reversible change in dimensions (1000% in diameter and ~ 70% in length), and extremely fast response time (< 20 s for expansion and < 2 s for contraction). © 2004 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. The effects of two thermal processing methods on physical and sensory properties of a beverage prepared from finely ground, partially defatted roasted peanuts ( Arachis hypogaea ) were determined. Samples were either bottle-processed at 72 °C for 2 min or 111 °C for 8 min after homogenizing at 72 °C, or kettle-pasteurized for 2 min at 72, 77 or 82 °C before homogenizing at 72, 77 or 82 °C, respectively. Harsher thermal processing parameters increased the suspension stability and viscosity of bottle-processed beverage by 175 and 87%, respectively, but had no influence on kettle-pasteurized beverage. Total solids (%) and colour were not adversely affected by thermal processing. Beverage which was kettle-pasteurized and homogenized at 72 °C had low viscosity (6.1–8.4 cps), typical roasted peanut flavour and little or no chalky mouthfeel, irrespective of whether carrageenan (stabilizer) or mono-diglyceride (emulsifier) were added to the formulation. Kettle-pasteurizing before homogenizing (20.7 × 106 Pa) showed potential for producing beverages with physical and sensory attributes similar to commercial cow milk products.  相似文献

Data co-clustering refers to the problem of simultaneous clustering of two data types. Typically, the data is stored in a contingency or co-occurrence matrix C where rows and columns of the matrix represent the data types to be co-clustered. An entry C ij of the matrix signifies the relation between the data type represented by row i and column j. Co-clustering is the problem of deriving sub-matrices from the larger data matrix by simultaneously clustering rows and columns of the data matrix. In this paper, we present a novel graph theoretic approach to data co-clustering. The two data types are modeled as the two sets of vertices of a weighted bipartite graph. We then propose Isoperimetric Co-clustering Algorithm (ICA)—a new method for partitioning the bipartite graph. ICA requires a simple solution to a sparse system of linear equations instead of the eigenvalue or SVD problem in the popular spectral co-clustering approach. Our theoretical analysis and extensive experiments performed on publicly available datasets demonstrate the advantages of ICA over other approaches in terms of the quality, efficiency and stability in partitioning the bipartite graph.  相似文献

A low power and high-performance digital electrocardiogram (ECG) detector has become a basic requirement in modern implantable cardiac pacemakers. A fractional operator-based digital ECG detector for modern pacemaker systems is proposed in this work. Instead of conventional thresholding, an adaptive slope prediction threshold is utilized for the detection of ECG peaks. A stochastic search-based algorithm, namely, cuckoo search algorithm, is used to design an optimal fractional operator that is used for ECG denoising. It has been found that the proposed adaptive slope prediction threshold increases the QRS complex detection performance. A low detection error rate (DER) ranges from 0.01% to 0.56%, positive predictivity (P+) ranges from 99.32% to 99.98%, sensitivity (Se) ranges from 99.45% to 99.98%, and a detection accuracy (Acc) ranges from 99.43% to 99.96% for different databases are achieved for the proposed ECG detector, which is better compared with the existing ECG detectors. The proposed design of fractional order operator based on the lattice wave digital filter (LWDF) requires a minimum number of the multipliers for its structural realization.  相似文献
