Performance Histogram Curve: Abstractive Visualization and Analysis of NBA Games

NBA game is one of the world’s most exciting sports. Multiple datasets for a NBA game are available, e.g., play-by-play data, shot-position data, twitter and videos. Existing methods for visualizing game data commonly focus on the composition of multi-variate information of a game process. In this paper, we introduce a new parametric modeling approach, Performance Histogram Curve (PHC), that locally and adaptively encodes the game progression with game-related features derived from the play-by-play data. By transforming a PHC into the two-dimensional space with a two-phase projection technique, we create a unique 2D line representation. The 2D representation and auxiliary views abstracts the progress of a game and the performance of each team along the timeline. Our integrated system favor browsing a single play, analyzing game performance, and comparing multiple games. We conducted two case studies to demonstrate the effectiveness of our approach.

Thick Film Planar CO<Subscript>2</Subscript> Sensors Based on Na β-Alumina Solid Electrolyte

Practical small-sized thick film CO₂ sensor with self-heater was fabricated with Na β -Alumina (NBA), Na₂Ti₆O₁₃-TiO₂, and Na₂CO₃ as a solid electrolyte, reference electrode, and a sensing electrode, respectively. The measured EMF from the sensor followed the Nernstian behavior with CO₂ concentration change in the range of 400 to 600^∘C (350–580 mW power consumption). However, in the aspect of stability, densification of the NBA thick film and prevention of Na₂CO₃ evaporation were needed. In this study, an Al₂O₃ porous layer deposited on Na₂CO₃ was effective in improving the durability during operation of the sensor. It is thought that Al₂O₃ suppresses evaporation of Na₂CO₃.

应用Matlab软件对NBA赛程进行利弊分析

赛程的安排应该考虑以下三个因素对参赛队有重要影响，即各参赛队每场次的时间间隔对队员体力恢复因素、各参赛队周末主场优势因素、各参赛队从一地飞行到另一地旅途的劳累度因素等。主要通过Matlab软件对NBA2008年～2009年常规赛的1230场赛事的数据进行这三个因素的编程实现，最终得到这三个因素的单项优劣指数的排名表。综合考虑以上三个因素对各队赛程的影响情况，给三个因素对比赛的影响程度加权，对各队的利弊情况进行了综合排序，从中得出了其规律。     

Advanced Scout: Data Mining and Knowledge Discovery in NBA Data

Advanced Scout is a PC-based data mining application used by National Basketball Association (NBA)coaching staffs to discover interesting patterns in basketball game data. We describe Advanced Scout software from the perspective of data mining and knowledge discovery. This paper highlights the pre-processing of raw data that the program performs, describes the data mining aspects of the software and how the interpretation of patterns supports the processof knowledge discovery. The underlying technique of attribute focusing asthe basis of the algorithm is also described. The process of pattern interpretation is facilitated by allowing the user to relate patterns to video tape.     

Thermoresponsive poly(oligo ethylene glycol acrylates)

Thermoresponsive polymers have been the subject of numerous publications and research topics in the last few decades mostly driven by their easily controllable temperature stimulus and high potential for in vitro and in vivo applications. P(NIPAAm) is the most studied amongst these polymers, but recently other types of polymers are increasingly being investigated for their thermoresponsive behavior. In particular, polymers bearing a short oligo ethylene glycol (OEG) side chain have been shown to combine the biocompatibility of polyethylene glycol (PEG) with a versatile and controllable LCST behavior. These polymers can be synthesized via controlled radical polymerization techniques from various monomers consisting of an OEG chain and a polymerizable group like a (meth)acrylate, styrene or acrylamide. OEG acrylates offer significant advantages over, e.g., OEG methacrylates as the lower hydrophilicity of the backbone facilitates thermoresponsive behavior with smaller, more defined side chains. Furthermore, PEG acrylates can be polymerized using all major controlled radical polymerization techniques, unlike OEG methacrylates. This review will focus on OEG acrylate based (co)polymers and will provide a comprehensive overview of their reported thermoresponsive properties. The combination and comparison of this data will not only highlight the potential of these monomers, but will also serve as a starting point for future studies.     

基于AHP与匹配模型的NBA赛程分析与评价

对NBA2008—2009赛季常规赛的赛程进行分析，找出赛程安排对球队的利弊影响的评价指标。通过对赛程数据预处理，利用层次分析法对该赛程安排作出综合评价，以火箭队为例分析赛程安排对它的影响，同时给出赛程对30支球队最有利和最不利的球队。最后通过对同部不同区球队之间比赛3场情况的分析，借鉴图论中的匹配模型和“一笔画”的思想，提出了“比赛匹配”的定义，给出了安排模型与实现方法，这种方法实际中是可行的，且易于程序实现。
