In this paper we investigate the impact of finite laser linewidths (i.e. source partial coherence) on the crosstalk performance of optical frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) networks employing single-cavity Fabry-Perot demultiplexers. The closed expression of the mean power transfer function for an arrayed waveguide grating (AWG), taking into account fabrication errors, is presented. Comparison with numerical simulations using a previous Fourier optics modeling show good agreement. The procedure to predict the AWG floor level using the numerical modeling is presented and checked against the analytical derived expressions.  相似文献

We report on the use of tapered linearly chirped fiber gratings to equalize dispersion-induced distortion in long distance/broad-band subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) systems. Different apodization functions for the coupling factor of the fiber grating have been considered and their equalizing capability of fiber-induced distortion in a subcarrier system have been compared. The results of the theoretical analysis show that both harmonic and intermodulation distortions are significantly reduced when the equalizer parameters have been properly designed. Higher reduction of the nonlinear distortion is obtained when the length of the filter increases, even though a saturation effect on this reduction figure appears when the equalizer length is about four or five times its minimum value to achieve equalization, which is derived theoretically based on the SCM optical system parameters. The performance of a Tanh-type tapered linearly chirped grating equalizer on a realistic broadband SCM system is also considered. The results reveal that the dispersion-induced distortion can be neglected when the equalizer is employed  相似文献

We present a theory of optical bistability for fiber resonators driven by amplitude-stabilized laser sources of arbitrary coherence. The nonlinear wave equation is solved and the results are applied to analyze the effect of the source coherence on the relevant parameters of the structure such as the switch-on and switch-off powers, the critical input power for the onset of bistability and the cavity critical mistuning  相似文献

An experimental demonstration is given of the use of a transversal RF photonic filter to accomplish intermodal dispersion equalisation in a 10 Gbit/s optical fibre link using a Fabry-Perot laser. The structure operates in an equivalent fashion to an electronic equaliser but in the photonic domain. A record distance of 24.2 km using the equalising filter is obtained.  相似文献

A novel dynamic chirping fibre Bragg grating device based on a magnetic field applied to a magnetostrictive transducer capable of tuning its dispersion is presented. This paper deals with the synthesis of fiber-optic delay line filters and is organized as follows. We show how filters with negative coefficients can be implemented using positive structures and differential detection at the optoelectronic conversion. This possibility implies that not only lowpass, but bandpass and highpass filters with arbitrary transfer functions may be implemented. Synthesis methods for positive filters based on modified versions of well-known time and frequency domain techniques are presented which take into account the restriction on the positive nature of the filter coefficients. We make use of these results to describe the synthesis procedure for arbitrary filters using fiber-optic structures. Some designs of lowpass, bandpass and highpass filters are presented as examples, and a possible implementation of these structures with a view of future optoelectronic integration is presented  相似文献
