Two green nanocomposites of Co3O4 decorated CTAB/bentonite (Co@CT/BE) and chitosan/bentonite (Co@CH/BE) were synthesized as enhanced and environmental photocatalysts and antibacterial agents. As photocatalysts, the products were applied in the effective oxidation of toxic methyl parathion pesticide (MP) in wastewater under a visible light source. The application of Co@CH/BE (0.02 g) resulted in the complete oxidation of MP (50 mg/L) after 40 min and complete mineralization after 60 min. while the complete oxidation and mineralization of MP (50 mg/L) by Co@CT/BE was recognized after 75 min and 100 min, respectively. The Co@CH/BE composite is of higher activity than Co@CT/BE and can cause complete oxidation for MP at high concentrations up to 100 mg/L after 75 min. The oxidation pathway was illustrated considering the existence of the hydroxyl radicals as the active oxidizing species and the identified secondary organic compounds during the oxidation tests. The detected intermediate converted into end products of CO2 and inorganic anions of SO4?2, NO3?, and PO4?3 at the final stages of the oxidation processes. As antibacterial agents, the two composites exhibit considerable inhabitation zones of about 20 mm against both the Gram-positive Staphylococcus aureus and Gram-negative bacterium Vibrio Sp. The synthetic Co@CH/BE showed the best antibacterial properties with 200 μg/mL as minimum inhibitory against Staphylococcus aureus.

Glass was successfully recycled in the synthesis of mesoporous silica MCM-48 which was used as catalyst support for nickel oxide photocatalyst. The resulted products were evaluated using X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and UV–Vis spectrophotometer. The precipitated nickel oxide is of Ni2O3 form and loading of it onto MCM-48 resulted in a reduction in the band gap energy from about 3.66 eV to about 2.4 eV. The role of MCM-48 as catalyst support for Ni2O3 in enhancing the adsorption capacity and photocatalytic properties of nickel oxide was evaluated through series of equilibrium studies and photocatalytic degradation of Congo red dye under visible light. Using of glass-based MCM-48 as catalyst support for Ni2O3 showed enhancing the adsorption capacity by 31.3 and 14.8% higher than the adsorption capacity of Ni2O3 and MCM-48, respectively. Also, the photocatalytic degradation percentage increased by about 67.3% relative to the Ni2O3 degradation percentage. The nature of MCM-48/Ni2O3 adsorption mechanism is chemisorption and occurs in multilayer form throughout the heterogeneous surface of the composite. The using of MCM-48 as support for Ni2O3 photocatalyst enhanced the adsorption capacity through increasing the total surface area. The loading process resulted in fixing of the Ni2O3 particles throughout the porous structure which producing more exposed active photocatalyst sites and active adsorption sites for the incident photons as well as preventing the nickel oxide particles from agglomeration. Based on the obtained results, supporting of Ni2O3 particles onto MCM-48 is promising active centers for the degradation of Congo red dye molecules.  相似文献

Heulandite/polyaniline (HU/PANI) composite was prepared by mechanical mixing from natural heulandite and synthesized polyaniline. HU/PANI was characterized by XRD, SEM, TEM, FT-IR, and UV–Vis spectroscopy. The product is of polycrystalline nature with an average crystallite size of 25.7?nm and optical band gap of 1.69?eV. HU/PANI shows higher efficiency in the removal of light green SF dye than natural HU or PANI in the dark and under artificial illumination. The equilibrium time was attained after 360 and 480?min in the dark and under illumination, respectively. The results fitted well with pseudo second order and Elovich kinetic models. The adsorption isotherm in the dark fitted well with Langmuir isotherm model and the calculated qmax was 44.6?mg/g. Using illumination, the data fitted better with the Freundlich and Temkin model than with the Langmuir model. Based on response surface analysis, the predicted conditions for maximum removal of light green SF dye in the dark (70.9%) were 5.5?mg/L, 24?mg, 3, and 430?min for dye concentration, HU/PANI dose, pH, and contact time, respectively. Whereas, under light illumination (97%) at operating conditions of 15?mg/L, 15?mg, 3, and 589?min, respectively. The composite also shows high efficiencies in the removal of other types of acidic and basic dyes.  相似文献
