The irradiation crosslinking of 50/50 poly(vinyl chloride)/epoxidized natural rubber blend was investigated in the presence of 1–5 parts per hundred resin (phr) tribasic lead sulfate (TBLS) with blends prepared at various mixing temperatures. The blends were irradiated using a 3.0 MeV electron accelerator at 0, 100 and 200 kGy irradiation doses. Changes in tensile strength, elongation at break and stress‐strain curves of the blends with the increase TBLS content and blending temperatures were observed before and after irradiation. The results on the tensile properties revealed the inhibition of the irradiation‐induced crosslinking by the TBLS although it stabilizes the blend against thermal and irradiation‐induced degradation. The Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy studies further confirmed these observations. Control on the thermal degradation of the blend during blending found to be crucial in achieving maximum enhancement in blend properties upon irradiation. Evidence from dynamic mechanical analysis was also used to support this contention. Addition of 2 phr TBLS and blending at 150 °C found to be adequate in order to achieve the best enhancement in blend properties through irradiation‐induced crosslinking. © 2001 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

Although literature on the measurement of flank wear and crater wear in single-point turning tools using machine vision is well documented, the study on the effect of nose radius wear on the roughness profile and dimensional changes of workpiece is less explored. The measurement of flank wear using the 2-D profile of the tool nose region or the roughness profile of the workpiece has also not been attempted in the past. In this work, the nose radius wear of cutting tools and roughness profile of turned parts in a lathe operation were measured using the machine vision method. The flank wear width VBC in the nose area was determined from the nose radius wear using the tool setup and machining geometry. The nose radius wear was also determined from the roughness profile of the workpiece and used in calculating the flank wear width. Comparison between the maximum flank wear width VBCmax determined from the roughness profile and that obtained using a toolmaker’s microscope showed a mean deviation of 5.5%. This result indicates that flank wear can be determined fairly accurately from the workpiece roughness profile if the tool and machining geometry are known.  相似文献

A blend of isotactic polypropylene (PP) and polybutadiene (PBu), in the composition range 5–35 wt % PBu content, prepared by mixing in a two-roll mill, is studied for crystallization, tensile, and impact behavior. Variations in crystallization behavior and the resulting morphology and structure are observed in both differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) and X-ray diffraction measurements on this blend as a function of blend composition. Impact and tensile properties are studied in the entire blend composition range. Analysis of tensile properties data in terms of the various theoretical models is attempted to obtain better insight into the interphase adhesion and stress concentration effect in this blend. The effects of blend composition on the state of dispersion and morphology of dispersed phase droplets and correlation of tensile properties with the crystallization parameters of PP component are also presented.  相似文献

Alumina trihydrate (ATH) was added to (low‐density polyethylene)/(ethylene‐[vinyl acetate] copolymer) blends (LPEs) to enhance their flame resistance. The addition of substantial amounts of ATH has been known to have deleterious effects on the mechanical properties of such blends. Hence, electron beam irradiation was used to improve the mechanical properties of our ATH‐filled LPE specimens. The specimens were irradiated at 50 to 150 kGy before being cut into specified shapes for analysis. The increase in the irradiation dosage increased the gel content as a result of the formation of crosslinked networks. Also, the flame resistance of the LPE blends was enhanced by increasing both the loading level of ATH and the irradiation dosage. However, a high ATH loading level reduced tensile strength and elongation at break. Nevertheless, the electron beam irradiation maintained the tensile strength and elongation of the ATH‐filled blends. In addition, a higher content of ATH in the LPE blends showed reactive interaction with irradiation effects. A higher amount of ATH reduced the electrical resistivity of the blends, but analysis of their surface and volume resistivity showed that the electrical resistance of the ATH‐filled LPE blends could be improved by electron beam irradiation in the range of 50 to 150 kGy. Spondylocostal dysostosis is a rare condition characterized by short stature due to a short trunk, multiple morphological abnormalities of the vertebrae and ribs due to malsegmentation of the axial skeleton. Radiological features include reduced number of vertebrae and ribs, hemivertebrae, fused or sagitally cleft vertebrae or multiple rib fusions. Three distinct clinical entities are described. We report nine cases of this syndrome, seven were infants and presented with an abnormal shape of the thorax. Two of them had a meningocoele, and one succumbed to the CNS anomalies on the third day of life. The other two cases were two and eight years of age. Cardiac lesion was detected in one case and renal malformations in three cases. Reduction in the rib number was present in all cases, and rib fusion in seven cases. Thoracic vertebral dysegmentation was noted in all, lumbar in three and cervical in one case. This is the first large series from India. No clear single etiology was established.  相似文献
