A new class of reconfigurable antenna based on monopole structures containing liquid dielectrics is presented. It was determined that the operating principle of this class of antenna is essentially that of a dielectric resonator, where salt (in solution) modifies the dielectric properties. The resonator column height determined the operating frequency, allowing match and frequency of operation to be fully tunable over 1-2.5 GHz while salinity mainly influences the bandwidth.  相似文献

A series of (50 ? x) P2O5–20B2O3–20CaO–10Na2O (x?=?0–15 mol% MoO3) glass composition was prepared. Glass structure was analyzed using infrared absorption, UV–visible spectroscopy, electron spin resonance, density, and molar volume calculations. FTIR confirmed that Mo ions are contributed as MoO6 octahedral units in the glassy matrix, resulting in an increase in the pyrophosphate and BO3 groups at the expense of metaphosphate and BO4 units. UV–visible and ESR spectra detected Mo3+ and Mo5+ ions as species in the host glass due to the increase in MoO3 content. Broadband dielectric spectroscopy investigation on a broad range of frequencies and at different temperatures indicated that the enhancement of electrical conductivity of the prepared glasses due to molybdenum doping was prevented using confinement effect at the wells, causing demobilization of the charge carriers. Hence the dielectric spectra were caused by the mobility of charge carriers rather than the dynamics at the molecular scale. There is a clear correlation between the transport mechanism and dynamics at the interface of the charge carriers. Presently, the challenge is to understand if optimizing the accumulation of charges at the interfaces and electrodes is the origin of electrical storage energy.

A single integrated examination using regional measurements of perfusion from contrast-enhanced MRI and three-dimensional (3D) strain from tissue-tagged MRI was developed to differentiate infarcted myocardium from adjacent tissue with functional abnormalities. Ten dogs were studied at baseline and 10 days after a 2-hour occlusion of the left anterior descending coronary artery (LAD). Strain was determined using a 3D finite element model. Two-dimensional measurements of hypoenhancing regions were highly correlated with myocardial viability (r = 0.96). Signal intensity versus time curves obtained from contrast-enhanced MRI were used for quantitative perfusion analysis. The remote and adjacent noninfarcted tissue of the dogs with LAD occlusion, as well as the infarcted tissue, exhibited abnormal deformation patterns as compared to normal dogs (positive predictive value (PPV) of strain determination of infarction = 66%). Integration of contrast-enhanced MRI results with 3D strain analysis enabled the delineation of the myocardial infarction (PPV = 100%) from functionally compromised myocardium. This integrated cardiac examination shows promise for noninvasive serial assessment of potentially jeopardized noninfarcted myocardium to study the process of infarct remodeling and expansion.  相似文献

Layered MCM-22(P) was synthesized in the presence of hexamethonium (HM) cations. Compared to zeolite EU-1 (EUO-type structure), which crystallizes in similar conditions, its formation is favored at high HM concentrations (HM/SiO2 ≥ 0.3) and in the absence of Na2O. HM-containing MCM-22(P) was used as starting material for zeolite formation. Upon hydrothermal treatment, HM-MCM-22(P) transforms into zeolite EU-1 and upon calcination into a MWW-type zeolite. Transformation mechanisms were studied by standard characterization techniques such as XRD, SEM and TEM. Catalytic properties of the MWW-type zeolite obtained from this precursor were evaluated in a m-xylene isomerization reaction. Compared to zeolite MCM-22 prepared with hexamethyleneimine, a higher catalytic activity and an increased isomerization selectivity were observed and discussed.  相似文献

The Shlaer-Mellor object-oriented analysis method provides a structured means of identifying objects within a system by analyzing abstract data types and uses these objects as a basis for building three formal models: information, state, and process. The occurrence of large cell transformation has been well documented in a subgroup of patients with mycosis fungoides/Sezary syndrome (MF/SS). However, because of the rarity of MF/SS, little is known about the influence of clinicopathologic features in predicting large cell transformation and about outcome in the transformed cases. We evaluated all patients with MF/SS who were registered in our clinic during the study period and for whom pathologic slides for review were available or could be obtained. Disease was classified as transformed if biopsy showed large cells (>/=4 times the size of a small lymphocyte) in more than 25% of the infiltrate or if they formed microscopic nodules. Twenty-six patients with transformation were identified from a total of 115 evaluable cases with a diagnosis of MF/SS. The actuarial cumulative probability of transformation reached 39% in 12 years. The median time from diagnosis of MF/SS to transformation was 12 months (range, 0 to 128 months). Thirty-one percent of all patients with stage IIB-IV disease at presentation eventually transformed versus 14% of those with stage I-IIA (P = . 03), with transformation being especially common in patients with tumors (T3), 46% of whom transformed. Combining elevated beta2 microglobulin and lactic dehydrogenase (neither elevated v one or both elevated) was also predictive for transformation (P = .009). The median survival from initial diagnosis of MF/SS for the transformed patients was 37 months versus 163 months for the untransformed group (P = .0029). The median survival from transformation was 19.4 months (range, 2+ to 138 months). The following characteristics were associated with an inferior survival in transformed patients: (1) early transformation (<2 years from the diagnosis v >/=2 years; P = .011) and (2) advanced stage (IIB-IV v I-IIA; 2-year survival, 23% v 86%; P = .0035). We conclude that MF/SS patients with stages IIB-IV disease and, in particular, those with tumors have a high incidence of large-cell transformation. Patients with transformation have a relatively poor survival, especially if transformation occurs early (within 2 years) in the course of disease or if they are staged as IIB or higher.  相似文献

We studied serious renal disease in Egypt by registering all 155 patients coming to the nephrology service at the University of Cairo during a period of 62 days in 1993. The patients presented with severe uremic symptoms. Admission creatinine and urea levels were high, 804 mumol/l and 64 mmol/l. Fifteen percent of the patients died; 115 underwent dialysis. Sixty patients presented with chronic renal failure; 53 with acute renal failure, but 24 of these were later found to have end-stage renal failure. Of 29 patients with true acute renal failure, 11 (38%) had pre-renal failure and 7 (24%) post-renal failure. Twenty-one patients were followed up after transplantation and chronic dialysis, another 17 had nephrotic syndrome, 3 hypertension, and one had asymptomatic urinary abnormalities. The most common specific etiology for chronic end-stage renal failure was diabetes mellitus type II in the older patients; second most common was Schistosoma in the younger ones. Most diabetic patients came from the city. All but one Schistosoma patient came from rural Egypt. In the 22 patients who underwent renal biopsy the most common diagnosis was mesangio capillary glomerulonephritis. The prevalence of acute renal failure, particularly iatrogenic-toxic, is increasing.  相似文献

A modification of the method of Sen and Widdas (J. Physiol. London 160:392-403, 1962) was used to measure the rate of exit of several nonelectrolytes from erythrocytes of various species. In spite of additional errors introduced by the larger half-saturation values of the carriers (phi) and concentrations, it was possible to distinguish between systems with small values of phi, systems with relatively large values of phi, and systems involving only simple diffusion. Approximate values of phi in millimoles and of maximum transfer rate (K) in isotonic units per minute were obtained using times and initial slopes measured on experimental curves. The following values in the foregoing units were obtained: human glucose, phi = 1.8, 1.0, K = 0.8, 1.1; human glycerol, phi = 178, 94, K = 4.3, 3.3; sheep thiourea, phi = 56, 56, K = 0.9, 0.6; and rabbit glycerol, phi = 328, 64, K = 2.2, 1.0. Simple diffusion was demonstrated for the following systems: ox-ethylene glycol; ox-glycerol; sheep-ethylene glycol; and sheep glycerol.  相似文献

The availability of selenium and the levels of specific selenoproteins might affect cancer risk by influencing the ability of DNA damaging agents to cause genomic instability and mutations. Transgenic mice that express reduced levels of selenoproteins and previously shown to be more susceptible to pathology associated with cancer development were used to study this possibility. These mice were exposed to X-rays and DNA damage assessed in the erythrocytes, where micronuclei formation was higher compared to the same cells obtained from irradiated wild-type controls. To determine whether the selenoprotein glutathione peroxidase-1 (GPx-1) might be involved in this protection, its levels were reduced by siRNA targeting in LNCaP human prostate cells. UV-induced micronuclei frequency was higher in these cells compared to control-transfected cells. These results indicate a role for selenoproteins in protecting DNA from damage and support human data implicating GPx-1 as a possible target of the chemoprotective effect of selenium.  相似文献

Nipah virus is one of the most harmful emerging viruses with deadly effects on both humans and animals. Because of the severe outbreaks, in 2018, the World Health Organization focused on the urgent need for the development of effective solutions against the virus. However, up to date, there is no effective vaccine against the Nipah virus in the market. In the current study, the complete proteome of the Nipah virus (nine proteins) was analyzed for the antigenicity score and the virulence role of each protein, where we came up with fusion glycoprotein (F), glycoprotein (G), protein (V), and protein (W) as the candidates for epitope prediction. Following that, the multitope vaccine was designed based on top-ranking CTL, HTL, and BCL epitopes from the selected proteins. We used suitable linkers, adjuvant, and PADRE peptides to finalize the constructed vaccine, which was analyzed for its physicochemical features, antigenicity, toxicity, allergenicity, and solubility. The designed vaccine passed these assessments through computational analysis and, as a final step, we ran a docking analysis between the designed vaccine and TLR-3 and validated the docked complex through molecular dynamics simulation, which estimated a strong binding and supported the nomination of the designed vaccine as a putative solution for Nipah virus.
