Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are cell-derived nanostructures that mediate intercellular communication by delivering complex signals in normal tissues and cancer. The cellular coordination required for tumor development and maintenance is mediated, in part, through EV transport of molecular cargo to resident and distant cells. Most studies on EV-mediated signaling have been performed in two-dimensional (2D) monolayer cell cultures, largely because of their simplicity and high-throughput screening capacity. Three-dimensional (3D) cell cultures can be used to study cell-to-cell and cell-to-matrix interactions, enabling the study of EV-mediated cellular communication. 3D cultures may best model the role of EVs in formation of the tumor microenvironment (TME) and cancer cell-stromal interactions that sustain tumor growth. In this review, we discuss EV biology in 3D culture correlates of the TME. This includes EV communication between cell types of the TME, differences in EV biogenesis and signaling associated with differing scaffold choices and in scaffold-free 3D cultures and cultivation of the premetastatic niche. An understanding of EV biogenesis and signaling within a 3D TME will improve culture correlates of oncogenesis, enable molecular control of the TME and aid development of drug delivery tools based on EV-mediated signaling.  相似文献

In this paper, a novel non-Lyapunov way is proposed to detect the unstable periodic orbits (UPOs) with high orders by a new artificial bee colony algorithm (ABC). And UPOs with high orders of nonlinear systems, are one of the most challenging problems of nonlinear science in both numerical computations and experimental measures. The proposed method maintains an effective searching mechanism with fine equilibrium between exploitation and exploration. To improve the performance for the optimums of the multi-model functions and to avoid the coincidences among the UPOs with different orders, we add the techniques as function stretching, deflecting and repulsion to ABC. The problems of detecting the UPOs are converted into a non-negative functions’ minimization through a proper translation, which finds a UPO such that the objective function is minimized. Experiments to different high orders UPOs of 5 wellknown and widely used nonlinear maps indicate that the proposed algorithm is robust, by comparison of results through the ABC and quantum-behaved particle swarm optimization (QPSO), respectively. And it is effective even in cases where the Newton-family algorithms may not be applicable. Density of the orbits are discussed. Simulation results show that ABC is superior to QPSO, and it is a successful method in detecting the UPOs, with the advantages of fast convergence, high precision and robustness.  相似文献

Relay selection schemes for cooperative communications to achieve full cooperative diversity gains while maintaining spectral and energy efficiency have been extensively studied in a recent research. These schemes select only the best relay from multiple relaying candidates to cooperate with a communication link. In the present paper, we reviewed recently proposed cooperative communication protocols that integrate with relay selection mechanisms. The key design issues for relay selection mechanisms, for example, relaying candidate selection, optimal relay assignment, and cooperative transmission, were identified. We further discussed the challenges of optimal relay assignment in multi‐hop wireless sensor networks and presented the potential applications of cooperative communications with a relay selection in such networks. Future research directions were outlined, for example, the issues of service differentiation and system fairness in cooperative communication systems and the joint use of game theory and adaptive learning techniques in relaying candidate selection and optimal‐relay assignment mechanisms for efficient allocation of network resources. Ultra wideband (UWB) is a promising technology for wireless body area networks (WBANs). The authors investigate the wave propagation in the frequency range of 1-6-GHz for non-line-of-sight (NLOS) channels from the front to back of a human body by considering different wave polarisations: perpendicular and tangential with respect to the body. Time domain electromagnetic (EM) simulation using the anatomical model of a human body assuming frequency-dependent tissue properties is conducted. Radiographs of the energy density and delay spread of the NLOS channels are provided. The energy fading of UWB signals for the on-body channel suggests that the optimisation of the receiving antenna position for efficient signal transmission can be useful. A significant enhancement of the on-body communication link is identified by exploiting the transceiver antennas at the perpendicular to body polarisations. The impacts of body environment reflections on the channel characteristics of different polarisations are studied. The results show that the perpendicular polarisation channel characteristics are less influenced by the body environment reflections and are more stable regarding energy density and delay spread than tangential polarisation. The frequency-dependent propagation loss of on-body UWB channels is derived, where the efficient communication bandwidths for both perpendicular and tangential wave polarisations are given.  相似文献

There is an increasing demand to discuss diagnostic images and reports of difficult cases with experienced staff. A possible solution besides physically transporting patients and material is to use high-speed communication networks to transfer images and reports electronically. With the web application PACSflow we have developed a solution to transfer images, reports, and messages as a single package in a one-step procedure. The PACSflow is an interoperable and standard compliant web-based application, which gives clinicians a user-friendly interface for their work on a daily basis. The solution assumes that the diagnostic images are compatible with the digital imaging and communications in medicine (DICOM) format. The Department of Cardiology at the Rikshospitalet University Hospital in Oslo, Norway, and the Department of Internal Medicine at the S?rlandet Sykehus in Arendal, Norway, are making clinical use of the system. Initial tests indicate that use of PACSflow has reduced the time required to prepare and transfer data by a factor of 3.  相似文献

In this report, we present data demonstrating that cylindrical metallic particles, with various submicrometer striping patterns, may be readily distinguished in an optical microscope. Accurate particle identification is discussed relative to synthesis reproducibility and the limitations of optical microscopes. Results from a library of these particles, of which over 100 different striping patterns have been produced, are presented. For these particles, made with Au and Ag stripes, more than 70 patterns may be identified with greater than 90% accuracy. The ability to chemically modify the surface of these particles, making them useful for bioanalytical measurements, is also demonstrated. Finally, we discuss improvements in our manufacturing and identification processes that will lead to both larger numbers of striping patterns and improved identification accuracy.  相似文献

In order to comply with more opportunistic and transient service requirements, many research literatures have paid attention to an approach called spectrum pooling. If we imagine a scenario in which wireless service providers (WSPs) manage the spectrum pool, the radio spectrum itself will be traded as done in a market-based scenario, and moreover, every WSP will likely require new strategies in order to make more profits under such dynamic service requirements. Up to now, most researches have concentrated on investigating the inter-WSP strategies such as market equilibrium under the consideration of noncooperative or cooperative WSPs. In this paper, we direct our attentions to an intra-WSP strategy: a WSP coordinates the spectrum order in order to minimize its cost. To this end, we deploy a probabilistic inventory model that helps WSPs to determine economic order quantity and reorder point yielding minimum total expected cost. The total cost is composed of ordering cost, holding cost, and stockout cost. We believe that this model will be the first investigation of intra-WSP strategy that manages and estimates economic aspects of the spectrum pooling.  相似文献
