The silver-sodium interdiffusion coefficients of several glasses in the sodium galliosilicate system were determined. The compositional dependence of the interdiffusion coefficient is compared to that observed in the self-diffusion coefficients calculated from dc electrical conductivity data. The observed trends are discussed in terms of a structural model proposed for these glasses.  相似文献

DNA microarrays are an increasingly important tool that allow biologists to gain insight into the function of thousands of genes in a single experiment. Common to all array-based approaches is the necessity to analyze digital images of the scanned DNA array. The ultimate image analysis goal is to automatically quantify every individual array element (spot), providing information about the amount of DNA bound to a spot. Irrespective of the quantification strategy, the preliminary information to extract about a spot includes the mapping between its location in the digital image and its possibly distorted position in the spot array (gridding). We present a gridding approach divided into a spot-amplification step (matched filter), a rotation estimation step (Radon transform), and a grid spanning step. Quantification of the spots is performed by robustly fitting of a parametric model to pixel intensities with the help of M-estimators. The main advantage of parametric spot fitting is its ability to cope with overlapping spots. If the goodness-of-fit is too bad, a semiparametric spot fitting is employed. We show that our approach is superior to simple quantification strategies such as averaging of the pixel intensities. Small-angle neutron scattering (SANS) was used to study calcium silicate hydrate (C-S-H) formed via pozzolanic reaction between calcium oxide and ultrafine silica in water or polymer solutions at a temperature of 20°C. The SANS profile of this product was consistent with a structure that consisted of platelets with maximum diameters of ∼20 nm (± 5 nm) in the x – y plane, which was similar to a structure that had been deduced in previous work via X-ray diffractometry. The presence of two different types of superplasticizer in solution (at a concentration of 10 g/L) had no significant effect on its formation kinetics or its SANS profile.  相似文献

Triblock copolymers composed of poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) and poly(propylene oxide) (PPO), present an amphiphilic character in aqueous solution. Since PPO is less hydrophilic than PEO and since their solubilities decrease when the temperature increases, the copolymers self-assemble spontaneously, forming micelles at moderate temperature. For higher temperature or concentration, these solutions can form lyotropic liquid crystalline phases. In order to improve their properties for particular applications, these solutions are often used in the presence of salts. The influence of the salts nature is qualitatively well described for linear copolymer solutions of PEO-PPO-PEO type. The presence of a ‘salting out’ electrolyte shifts the cloud point and the critical micelle temperature to lower temperature while ‘salting in’ electrolyte induces opposite effects. In this article, we study the influence of the presence of sodium chloride (NaCl) on the structure of aqueous solutions of a four-branched copolymer. First, we show by viscosimetric studies that NaCl has a ‘salting out’ effect with these star copolymers as with theirs linear counterparts. Secondly, small angle neutron scattering studies make it possible to determine quantitatively the influence of the NaCl amount on the equilibrium unimers-micelles. These experiments allow obtaining the radius of micelles, their volume fraction and their aggregation number. These informations are compared with the data obtained with salt-free solutions. SANS results are also used to demonstrate that the micelles form bcc polycrystals in a significant zone of the phase diagram. The cell parameter of these crystals is determined according to the salinity of the solution. At last, we observe that the solution presents at high temperature a phase separation. Our results show clearly that this phenomenon is due to the dehydration of the PEO external layer of the micelles.  相似文献

The T cell protein tyrosine phosphatase (TC-PTP) is one of the most abundant mammalian tyrosine phosphatases in hematopoietic cells; however, its role in hematopoietic cell function remains unknown. In this report, we investigated the physiological function(s) of TC-PTP by generating TC-PTP-deficient mutant mice. The three genotypes (+/+, +/-, -/-) showed mendelian segregation at birth (1:2:1) demonstrating that the absence of TC-PTP was not lethal in utero, but all homozygous mutant mice died by 3-5 wk of age, displaying runting, splenomegaly, and lymphadenopathy. Homozygous mice exhibited specific defects in bone marrow (BM), B cell lymphopoiesis, and erythropoiesis, as well as impaired T and B cell functions. However, myeloid and macrophage development in the BM and T cell development in the thymus were not significantly affected. BM transplantation experiments showed that hematopoietic failure in TC-PTP -/- animals was not due to a stem cell defect, but rather to a stromal cell deficiency. This study demonstrates that TC-PTP plays a significant role in both hematopoiesis and immune function.  相似文献

Creative individuals may use psychoactive drugs to enhance their ability to produce creative works, but it is difficult to differentiate the pharmacological effects from other influences. Part of the problem is that creativity defies any simple definition, making it hard to determine when or how much creativity is evident. The other major obstacle is that life circumstances are confounded with the propensity to use drugs (including alcohol), so the causal relation of drugs to creativity is uncertain. We examined this question by an experiment in which subjects were asked to creatively combine pictures of wildflowers that were implicitly organized around a set of three dimensions: color, shape, and number. Pharmacological and expected effects of alcohol were dissociated in the experiment by using the balanced placebo design (BPD). The results showed no pharmacological effect of alcohol on the creative combinations that subjects produced. However, the novelty and structural recombination of the wildflower arrangements were enhanced when subjects thought they had consumed alcohol, whether or not they had actually done so. Implications for measuring creativity and the possible motivation to use drugs for creative effect are discussed.  相似文献
