In the present study, oil palm wood flour (OPWF) particles with less than 250 μm sizes have been used as filler materials in the woven-glass-fiber reinforced epoxy composite. The hybrid composites were fabricated using a hand lay-up method and cured at room temperature under a compressive load of 196 N (20 kg). The OPWF of 2.5 to 10 parts per hundred (pph) by weight was used to evaluate its effect on impact strength of the hybrid composites at a range of temperature from −50 to 50 °C. The impact strength, evaluated using V-notch Charpy method, showed reduction with increasing filler content up to 5 pph and then the strength increment in those composites containing more than 5 pph OPWF. More severe damages were found in specimens with higher filler contents resulting higher energy absorption during impact. The composites with a large amount of OPWF particles deflected crack propagation paths or created obstacles at the crack tips and increased toughness of the composites. The impact strength was found to decrease when the samples fractured at subzero temperatures and this happened because of the reduction of the matrix ductility at lower temperatures.  相似文献

An overlapping composite track coating was produced on a steel surface by preplacing a 0·5 mm thick layer of TiC powder and then melting using a tungsten inert gas torch of constant energy input. The influence of the overlapping operation on preheating of the substrate, the dissolution of TiC particulates and the subsequent depth and hardness of the composite layer was analysed. The melt microstructure consisted of both undissolved and partially dissolved TiC particulates, together with a variety of morphologies and sizes of TiC particles precipitated during solidification. Preheating, resulting from the overlapping operation, occurred, producing additional melting of the TiC particulates and deeper melt depths but with a reduced volume fraction of TiC precipitates in the subsequent tracks. A maximum hardness of over 800 HV was developed in the composite layer. The high hardness was unevenly distributed in tracks melted at the initial and final stages, while it varied across the melt depths in other tracks.  相似文献

A series of ZnO films of different thickness have been deposited on glass substrates using sol-gel technique by varying the number of spin coatings and the effect of film thickness on the structural, electrical and optical properties have been investigated. The XRD results indicate that the full width at half maximum (FWHM) of the (0 0 2) diffraction peak and the strain along c-axis are decreased as the film is grown up to a thickness of 300 nm. Above 300 nm, the strain again becomes appreciable. The surface morphology shows that the grains become more uniform and bigger in size as the film thickness increases. Electrical result shows that although ZnO film with thickness of around 260 nm has the highest resistivity but is better for current conduction. The excitonic nature in the absorption spectrum becomes prominent for a film with thickness of around 260 nm. The band gap increases and then decreases as the film grows thicker.  相似文献

This study examines long-term trends and shifting behavior in the collaboration network of mathematics literature, using a subset of data from Mathematical Reviews spanning 1985–2009. Rather than modeling the network cumulatively, this study traces the evolution of the “here and now” using fixed-duration sliding windows. The analysis uses a suite of common network diagnostics, including the distributions of degrees, distances, and clustering, to track network structure. Several random models that call these diagnostics as parameters help tease them apart as factors from the values of others. Some behaviors are consistent over the entire interval, but most diagnostics indicate that the network’s structural evolution is dominated by occasional dramatic shifts in otherwise steady trends. These behaviors are not distributed evenly across the network; stark differences in evolution can be observed between two major subnetworks, loosely thought of as “pure” and “applied”, which approximately partition the aggregate. The paper characterizes two major events along the mathematics network trajectory and discusses possible explanatory factors.  相似文献

The work aimed to develop surfaces that could resist wear at high temperatures, thus achieving a prolonged component life. Surface modification of a low-alloy steel by incorporating TiC particles has been undertaken by melting the surface using a tungsten inert gas torch. The dry sliding wear behaviour at 600°C of the original and modified surfaces was compared. Microscopic examination of both surfaces showed glazed layers across the wear tracks, with differing amounts of oxide and homogeneity. Extensive wear occurred on the steel surface, which showed deformation of the wear scar tracks and a steadily increased friction coefficient. The TiC addition reduced the wear loss, coinciding with a glazed layer 33% thinner than that on the low-alloy steel sample.  相似文献

This study examines how conversing with passengers in a vehicle differs from conversing on a cell phone while driving. We compared how well drivers were able to deal with the demands of driving when conversing on a cell phone, conversing with a passenger, and when driving without any distraction. In the conversation conditions, participants were instructed to converse with a friend about past experiences in which their life was threatened. The results show that the number of driving errors was highest in the cell phone condition; in passenger conversations more references were made to traffic, and the production rate of the driver and the complexity of speech of both interlocutors dropped in response to an increase in the demand of the traffic. The results indicate that passenger conversations differ from cell phone conversations because the surrounding traffic not only becomes a topic of the conversation, helping driver and passenger to share situation awareness, but the driving condition also has a direct influence on the complexity of the conversation, thereby mitigating the potential negative effects of a conversation on driving. The aim of the present investigation is to analyze the effect of the motion of horizontal walls on the entropy generation and heat transfer rates in an entrapped triangular porous cavity during mixed convection. Two different thermal boundary conditions are considered as follows: (i) hot inclined walls and cold horizontal walls and (ii) cold inclined walls and hot horizontal walls. Overall, Re?=?100 may be recommended at Prm?=?0.026, 7.2, Gr?=?105, and Dam?=?10?4 to 10?2 within the upper and lower cavities for cases 1 and 2.  相似文献
