Carbon-alumina coatings on stainless steel were prepared by a sol-gel route. The dispersion of the commercial graphite flakes by an ultrasonic bath, an ultrasonic probe and a high-shear mixer, produce thinner flakes, few-layered-graphene and bi-layer-graphene (BLG), respectively. The coatings were examined by optical and electron microscopy, interferential rugosimetry, optical profilometry and Raman spectroscopy. The friction coefficient against a steel ball is decreased by a factor of 5–7 and the wear volume is reduced by a factor of 6–38 compared to a pure alumina coating. The best results correspond to the sample prepared using the high-shear mixer. Delamination of the graphite flakes into BLG during the friction test provides the system with debris suitable for tribofilm building up and lubrication but it is better to already have carbon dispersed as BLG in the coating before the test, notably because the carbon surface area available is much higher.  相似文献

The diffraction of light by a single subwavelength hole in a highly conductive metallic sheet is analyzed with a recently developed differential theory that is able to plot the nearly electromagnetic field. Using rigorous electromagnetic and phenomenological analysis, we show that a single subwavelength hole can excite surface-plasmon resonance that contributes greatly to extraordinary transmission.  相似文献

A peak of the detected fluorescence rate per molecule has recently been observed in experiments of fluorescence correlation spectroscopy carried out on subwavelength apertures in metallic screens, a phenomenon that appears at a diameter-to-wavelength ratio below the fundamental mode cutoff. Although the origin of the resonant transmission through a subwavelength aperture has been well explained in terms of excitation of plasmon surface modes on the aperture ridge, the origin of the maximum that occurs at a radius-to-wavelength ratio smaller than 1/4 was not clear. Using a rigorous electromagnetic theory of light diffraction in cylindrical geometry, we show that it is linked to the appearance of the fundamental mode propagating inside the aperture. We obtain good agreement between the theoretical and the experimental results.  相似文献

This study investigates the influence of inlet concentration and of flow rate on the degradation rate of two Volatile Fatty Acids (butyric and propionic acids). TiO2-coated nonwoven fiber textile was used as the photocatalyst in an annular plug-flow reactor at laminar flow regime. The kinetic follows a Langmuir-Hinshelwood form. The oxidation rate increased with the flow rate, which emphasizes the influence of the mass transfer. A first design equation is proposed considering that the mass transfer could be neglected. Despite a good accuracy of the model, the determined kinetic constants are dependent on the flow rate which highlights the contribution of the mass transfer rate on the global degradation rate. Thus, a new design equation which includes the mass transfer rate was developed. Using this model, the degradation rate can be determined for any given flow rate. Moreover, it allows the estimation of the contribution of mass transfer and chemical reaction steps at given experimental conditions; and thus providing an interesting tool for reactor optimization or design.  相似文献

We show that sensing in the nonlinear optical regime using multipolar surface plasmon resonances is more sensitive in comparison to sensing in the linear optical regime. Mie theory, and its extension to the second harmonic generation from a metallic nanosphere, is used to describe multipolar second harmonic generation from silver metallic nanoparticles. The standard figure of merit of a potential plasmonic sensor based on this principle is then calculated. We finally demonstrate that such a sensor is more sensitive to optical refraction index changes occurring in the vicinity of the metallic nanoparticle than its linear counterpart.  相似文献

A new approach is presented to deal with the problem of modelling and simulating the control mechanisms underlying planned-arm-movements. We adopt a synergetic view in which we assume that the movement patterns are not explicitly programmed but rather are emergent properties of a dynamic system constrained by physical laws in space and time. The model automatically translates a high-level command specification into a complete movement trajectory. This is an inverse problem, since the dynamic variables controlling the current state of the system have to be calculated from movement outcomes such as the position of the arm endpoint. The proposed method is based on an optimization strategy: the dynamic system evolves towards a stable equilibrium position according to the minimization of a potential function. This system, which could well be described as a feedback control loop, obeys a set of non-linear differential equations. The gradient descent provides a solution to the problem which proves to be both numerically stable and computationally efficient. Moreover, the addition into the control loop of elements whose structure and parameters have a pertinent biological meaning allows for the synthesis of gestural signals whose global patterns keep the main invariants of human gestures. The model can be exploited to handle more complex gestures involving planning strategies of movement. Finally, the extension of the approach to the learning and control of non-linear biological systems is discussed.  相似文献

A continuous wavelet transform-based method is presented to study the nonstationary strength and phase delay of the respiratory sinus arrhythmia (RSA). The RSA is the cyclic variation of instantaneous heart rate at the breathing frequency. In studies of cardio-respiratory interaction during sleep, paced breathing or postural changes, low respiratory frequencies, and fast changes can occur. Comparison on synthetic data presented here shows that the proposed method outperforms traditional short-time Fourier-transform analysis in these conditions. On the one hand, wavelet analysis presents a sufficient frequency-resolution to handle low respiratory frequencies, for which time frames should be long in Fourier-based analysis. On the other hand, it is able to track fast variations of the signals in both amplitude and phase for which time frames should be short in Fourier-based analysis.  相似文献

In current practice, optimal placement of deep-brain stimulators (DBSs) used to treat movement disorders in patients with Parkinson's disease and essential tremor is an iterative procedure. A target is chosen preoperatively based on anatomical landmarks identified on magnetic resonance images. This point is used as an initial position that is refined intraoperatively using both microelectrode recordings and macrostimulation. In this paper, we report on our current progress toward developing a system for the computer-assisted preoperative selection of target points and for the intraoperative adjustment of these points. The system consists of a deformable atlas of optimal target points that can be used to select automatically the preoperative target, of an electrophysiological atlas, and of an intraoperative interface. Results we have obtained show that automatic prediction of target points is an achievable goal. Our results also indicate that electrophysiological information could be used to resolve structures not visible in anatomic images, thus improving both preoperative and intraoperative guidance. Our intraoperative system has reached the stage of a working prototype and we compare targeting accuracy as well as the number of paths needed to reach the targets with our system and with the method in current clinical use.  相似文献
