Commercial hydroxyapatite was reinforced by adding small amounts (2 and 4 wt%) of P2O5-based glasses during its sintering process. The composites prepared had a chemical composition closely related to the mineral part of bone tissues in terms of trace elements usually detected, such as Na, K and Mg. X-ray diffraction analysis (XRD) showed that the glass reinforced-HA composites were composed of a HA matrix and variable amounts of tricalcium phosphate phase, depending on sintering temperature and glass composition. These composites were shown to have much higher biaxial bending strength than sintered HA, 107 MPa for Ha/2% of 35P2O5-35CaO-10Na2O-10K2O-10MgO glass composite and 28 MPa for sintered HA. The presence of -tricalcium phosphate in the microstructure of the composites is an important factor in the reinforcement process.This paper was accepted for publication after the 1995 Conference of the European Society of Biomaterials, Oporto. This paper proposes a two-stage stochastic programming model for the parallel machine scheduling problem where the objective is to determine the machines' capacities that maximize the expected net profit of on-time jobs when the due dates are uncertain. The stochastic model decomposes the problem into two stages: The first (FS) determines the optimal capacities of the machines whereas the second (SS) computes an estimate of the expected profit of the on-time jobs for given machines' capacities. For a given sample of due dates, SS reduces to the deterministic parallel weighted number of on-time jobs problem which can be solved using the efficient branch and bound of M’Hallah and Bulfin [16]. FS is tackled using a sample average approximation (SAA) sampling approach which iteratively solves the problem for a number of random samples of due dates. SAA converges to the optimum in the expected sense as the sample size increases. In this implementation, SAA applies a ranking and selection procedure to obtain a good estimate of the expected profit with a reduced number of random samples. Extensive computational experiments show the efficacy of the stochastic model.  相似文献

The influences of variations in some of the kinetics parameters affecting the reactivity insertion are considered in this study, it has been accomplished in order to acquire knowledge about the role that kinetic parameters play in prompt critical transients from the safety point of view. The kinetics parameters variations are limited to the effective delayed neutron fraction (βeff) and the prompt neutron generation time (Λ). The reactor thermal behaviors under the variations in effective delayed neutron fraction and prompt neutron generation time included, the reactor power, maximum fuel temperature, maximum clad temperature, maximum coolant temperature and the mass flux variations at the hot channel. The analysis is done for a typical swimming pool, plate type research reactor with low enriched uranium. The scram system is disabled during the accidents simulations. Calculations were done using PARET code. As a result of simulations, it is concluded that, the reactor (ETRR2) thermal behavior is considerably more sensitive to the variation in the effective delayed neutron fraction than to the variation in prompt neutron generation time and the fast reactivity insertion in both cases causes a flow expansion and contraction at the hot channel exit. The amplitude of the oscillated flow is a qualitatively increases with the decrease in both βeff and Λ.  相似文献

CsNiCr(CN)6 coordination nanoparticles with sizes ranging from 6 to 30 nm are highly diluted in an organic polymer matrix. Their static and dynamic magnetic behaviour allows unravelling of surface anisotropy and interparticle dipolar interaction effects. The single magnetic domain critical size is thus evaluated to be around 22 nm with a blocking temperature of 21 K (at ν = 1 Hz) and an effective energy barrier for the reversal of the magnetization of 426 K.  相似文献

The effect of a drag-reducing polymer (DRP) in the water phase during horizontal oil–water flow was investigated in a 14 mm ID acrylic pipe. Oil (5.5 mPa s, 828 kg/m3) and a co-polymer (Magnafloc 1011) of polyacrylamide and sodium acrylate were used. Two polymer concentrations were tested, 20 ppm and 50 ppm, made from a 1000 ppm master solution. The results showed a strong effect of DRP on flow patterns. The presence of DRP extended the region of stratified flow and delayed transition to slug flow. The addition of the polymer clearly damped interfacial waves. Annular flow changed in all cases investigated to stratified or dual continuous flow, while slug flow changed in most cases to stratified flow. In the cases where the slug and bubble flow patterns still appeared after the addition of the polymer, the oil slugs and bubbles were seen to flow closer together than in the flow without the polymer. The DRP caused a decrease in pressure gradient and a maximum drag reduction of about 50% was found when the polymer was introduced into annular flow. The height of the interface and the water hold up increased with DRP. There were no large differences on pressure gradient and hold up between the two DRP concentrations. Using a two-fluid model it was found that the addition of the polymer results in a decrease in both the interfacial and the water wall shear stresses.  相似文献

HLA antigens were examined by microdroplet lymphocyte cytotoxicity in 31 patients with Sj?grens syndrome. Fifty percent of 22 Causcasian patients (7 of 17 females and 4 of 5 males) had HLA-B8, as compared to 21% of 1205 controls (P=0.002). The presence of HLA-B8 was not correlated with parotid salivary flow, keratoconjunctivitis sicca, or focus score. Because of its association with a number of autoimmune diseases, including Sj?gren's syndrome, it is suggested that HLA-B8 is genetically liked to an immune response gene(s) that predisposes the individual to autoimmune phenomena. The expression of autoimmunity may be determined by infectious or environmental factors.  相似文献

Periodontitis affects around 15 per cent of human adult populations. While periodontal treatment aimed at removing the bacterial cause of the disease is generally very successful, the ability predictably to regenerate the damaged tissues remains a major unmet objective for new treatment strategies. Existing treatments include the use of space-maintaining barrier membranes (guided tissue regeneration), use of graft materials, and application of bioactive molecules to induce regeneration, but their overall effects are relatively modest and restricted in application. The periodontal ligament is rich in mesenchymal stem cells, and the understanding of the signalling molecules that may regulate their differentation has increased enormously in recent years. Applying these principles for the development of new tissue engineering strategies for periodontal regeneration will require further work to determine the efficacy of current experimental preclinical treatments, including pharmacological application of growth factors such as bone morphogenetic proteins (BMPs) or Wnts, use of autologous stem cell reimplantation strategies, and development of improved biomaterial scaffolds. This article describes the background to this problem, addresses the current status of periodontal regeneration, including the background biology, and discusses the potential for some of these experimental therapies to achieve the goal of clinically predictable periodontal regeneration.  相似文献

Knowledge of entrained fraction of one phase into the other during dual continuous liquid-liquid flows, where both phases retain their continuity at the top and bottom of the pipe but there is dispersion of one phase into the other, is important for predicting pressure drop and hold up in this pattern. However, there is only limited amount of experimental information available on entrained fractions and almost no modelling attempts for their evaluation. In this paper, a semi-empirical model is proposed for predicting the entrainment of one phase into the other in dual continuous horizontal oil-water flows based on the balance between drop entrainment and drop deposition rates and assuming no slip between dispersed and continuous phases. Drop entrainment occurs when the detaching drag force on the waves of stratified wavy flow overcomes the attaching surface tension force. A force balance on the wave developed by Al-Wahaibi et al. [2007. Transition between stratified and non-stratified horizontal oil-water flows: part II (mechanism of drop formation). Chem. Eng. Sci. 62, 2929-2940] is used to predict the drop volume that entrains into the opposite phase. For the calculation of the drop deposition rate a correlation developed for gas-liquid systems was initially used. However, improved predictions are obtained with a new deposition rate constant that was developed from available data on entrained fraction in oil-water flows. The model with the new deposition rate constant is able to predict reasonably well experimental data available in the literature on entrained fraction in different oil-water flow systems.  相似文献
