The involvement of catechol and hydroxamate chelators, along with hydrogen peroxide and Fe3+, in the degradation of cellulosic and hemicellulosic substrates was examined with the purpose of improving our current knowledge of the non‐enzymatic mechanisms involved in wood biodegradation by fungi. It could be demonstrated that a catechol chelator‐mediated Fenton reaction not only clearly degraded hemicellulosic substrates but also significantly accelerated and increased the effectiveness of degradation reactions. On the other hand, when a hydroxamate chelator‐mediated Fenton reaction was used, an inhibitory effect was observed. When cellulosic substrates underwent a chelator‐mediated Fenton reaction, no significant difference in degradation was observed between catechol and hydroxamate chelator‐mediated reactions. However, a catechol‐mediated reaction did accelerate the degradation of cellulosic substrates at the beginning of reactions. In addition, it was observed that with a chelator‐mediated Fenton reaction, oxidation of cellulose proceeds depolymerization. Copyright © 2005 Society of Chemical Industry  相似文献

This paper presents a review on the performance of Savonius wind turbines. This type of turbine is unusual and its application for obtaining useful energy from air stream is an alternative to the use of conventional wind turbines. Simple construction, high start up and full operation moment, wind acceptance from any direction, low noise and angular velocity in operation, reducing wear on moving parts, are some advantages of using this type of machine. Over the years, numerous adaptations for this device were proposed. The variety of possible configurations of the rotor is another advantage in using such machine. Each different arrangement of Savonius rotor affects its performance. Savonius rotor performance is affected by operational conditions, geometric and air flow parameters. The range of reported values for maximum averaged power coefficient includes values around 0.05–0.30 for most settings. Performance gains of up to 50% for tip speed ratio of maximum averaged power coefficient are also reported with the use of stators. Present article aims to gather relevant information about Savonius turbines, bringing a discussion about their performance. It is intended to provide useful knowledge for future studies.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to evaluate tubular dentin sealer penetration, comparing different final irrigation protocols using a conventional needle (CONV), EndoActivator system (EAS), EndoVac system (EVS), and ultrasound (PUI). Initially, fifty‐two first maxillary molars with a single canal in the palatal root, without abrupt curvatures, resorptive processes, or previous endodontic treatment were selected for this study. Then, the crowns were sectioned to obtain palatal roots 15 mm in length. The root canals were prepared with the ProTaper Universal System and irrigated with 5% NaOCl. Afterwards, the specimens were divided into four groups (n. 13), according to the final irrigation protocol: CONV, EAS, EVS, and PUI. After filling, slices at 3 mm and 5 mm from the apex were obtained for analysis by confocal laser scanning microscopy. Two‐way comparisons between the groups and the levels were performed with Games Howell's test (p < .05). Tubular dentin sealer penetration was higher at 5 mm compared with 3 mm from the apex (p < .05). The EAS group showed a higher percentage of tubular dentin sealer penetration, compared with the CONV group, at both levels. At 3 mm, there was no statistically significant difference among EAS, EVS, and PUI; however, these groups showed better performance, compared with the CONV group. At 5 mm, there was no statistically significant difference between the EAS and EVS groups, but both showed higher sealer penetration than the PUI group (p < .05). The EAS and EVS groups achieved better degrees of tubular dentin sealer penetration, compared with the other groups.  相似文献

Colloidal “silver stars” were synthesized upon poly(lactic‐co‐glycolic) acid nanosphere templates via a facile two‐step silver reduction method. Myriad dendrimer‐like Ag star morphologies were synthesized by varying the amount of poly(vinyl alcohol) and trisodium citrate used during silver reduction. Scanning electron microscopy studies revealed that star‐shaped silver–polymer composites possessing nanoscopic, fractal morphologies with diameters ranging from 500 nm to 7 μm were produced. These composites have broad applications from antibacterial agents to catalysis; two such applications were tested here. Surface‐enhanced Raman spectroscopy (SERS) studies showed multiple hot spots of SERS activity within a single star. Electrochemical catalysis experiments demonstrated the feasibility of using the silver stars instead of platinum for the oxygen reduction reaction in alkaline fuel cells.  相似文献

Summary Phenylacetylene (PhA) is polymerized by the dicationic nickel complex Ni(MeCN)6(BF4)2 associated with AlEt2Cl as co-catalyst. The production of 200g of polymer per gram of nickel per hour represents a typical activity of this system. Under our experimental conditions, the polymer displays an exclusive trans structure. The molecular weight distribution of the polymer is polymodal (5000 g.mol−1 and 200 g.mol−1). The highest average molecular weight fraction (5000 g. mol−1) represents the highest published value for polyphenylacetylene (PPA) where a nickel catalyst is employed. The electrical conductivities vary between 10−7 and 10−16 S.cm−1, and are characteristic of a semi-conductor polymer. Equivalent values are cited in the literature only in the case of doped PPA. Experimental observations enabled us to propose a mechanism for the formation of the active species through the reaction of Ni(MeCN)6(BF4)2 with AlEt2Cl. This research evaluated the functional potential of a fermented milk made with Streptococcus thermophilus, a probiotic (Bifidobacterium animalis subsp. lactis) and pomegranate juice. Ferric‐reducing antioxidant potential, Trolox equivalent antioxidant capacity, scavenging effect on 1,1‐diphenyl‐2‐picrylhydrazyl free radical, oxygen radical absorbance capacity and Folin–Ciocalteu assays were used to estimate antioxidant activity and phenolic content. Probiotic survival, release and absorption of polyphenols were evaluated using in vitro gastrointestinal digestion. The concentration of polyphenols increased during digestion from 608 mg to 1417  gallic acid equivalents (GAE) /L. About 14% of polyphenols were found on the dialysate portion. The beverage presented high viability of probiotics with high survival rate after digestion (above 7 log cfu/mL).  相似文献

To study the relationship among relaxation peaks observed in dynamic mechanical experiments and the structure of poly(ethylene‐co‐vinyl acetate) (EVA), EVA copolymers with different substitution in the carbonyl group were synthesized. EVA was hydrolyzed to obtain poly (ethylene‐co‐vinyl alcohol) and was subsequently reacted with formic, hexanoic, and octanoic acids. The copolymers synthesized were characterized by infrared spectroscopy. Analysis of the DMA spectra of the copolymers showed that their relaxation behavior depends on the vinyl acetate concentration. The α‐ and β‐transitions were observed in EVA copolymers with 8 and 18 wt % of functional groups, and the relationship among relaxation process with the structure of polymer was investigated. © 2005 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. In the present study, epoxidation and ozonolysis led to a decrease of 40.8 and 51.9 % in the degree of unsaturation of corn oil, respectively. Both products were initially characterized by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and 1H- and 13C-nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopies. The heteronuclear single-quantum correlation spectroscopy (HSQC) analysis of the polyol obtained by epoxidation showed that carbinol hydrogen signals, located between 3.65 and 3.47 ppm, were correlated to carbon signals between 74.4 and 71.7 ppm. HSQC analysis of the polyol obtained by ozonolysis revealed these same chemical shifts at 3.64 and 62.9 ppm, respectively. Compared to pure corn oil, the differential scanning calorimetry of both corn oil-based polyols displayed the absence of any detectable melting peaks. However, the epoxidized derivative had a higher thermal stability than the ozonated sample, as shown by thermogravimetric analysis.  相似文献

Current provenance stores associated with workflow management systems (WfMSs) capture enough coarse-grained information to describe which datasets were used and which processes were run. While this information is enough to rebuild a workflow run, it is not enough to facilitate user understanding. Because the data is manipulated via a series of black boxes, it is often impossible for a human to understand what happened to the data. In this work, we highlight the missing information that can assist user understanding. Unfortunately, provenance information is already very complex and difficult for a user to comprehend, which can be exacerbated by adding the extra information needed for deeper blackbox understanding. In order to alleviate this, we develop a model of provenance answers that follow a “roll up”, “drill down” strategy. We evaluate these techniques to determine if users have better understanding of provenance information. We show how this information can be captured by workflow management systems, and that the structures and information needed for this model are a negligible addition to standard provenance stores. Finally, we implement these techniques in a real provenance system, and evaluate implementation feasibility.  相似文献
